The NBA has set a special Board of Governors meeting for Tuesday, sources tell ESPN.
Looks like we may see a shutdown followed by a bubble like last year.

I mean, what the hell did they expect was going to happen? What exactly has changed since they shut down the previous season and decided the only way to continue safely and responsibly as in a "bubble?"
Did Covid-19 go away? Did the numbers even go down? Did the danger lessen at all???
No. No they f*cking did not. The numbers have only skyrocketed and the danger has only greatly increased with a new variant of the virus that is apparently far more conatgious.
The NBA rushed into this season extremely recklessly and irresponsibly. All because they wanted that delicious Christmas Day tv money. Well now it looks like it's going to cost them a hell of a lot more than if they had waited and actually put some f*cking thought into this.

This is all because of the Olympics btw. I'm going to hammer this point home because of how utterly ridiculous that is.
They should have delayed as I've stated numerous times as well. Just get the teams vaccinated then continue.
Everything about Covid has been so utterly mishandled that it boggles the mind. We have a country full of morons...simple as that.

Sounds like we may just get some harsher rules for players.
Stay home. Practice and get groceries only. A pseudo-bubble.
I just hope that they enforce it. Actually punish Harden for leaving to go to all-you-can-eat wings night at the strip club.
If that doesn't work, then it's either A) A bubble or B) shut down the season

It only makes sense. If it was up to me, I'd wait a month to see if you can get vaccines and then also add the 10 games they took off for 82.

As the NBA is reviewing videos circulating on social media of a maskless Kyrie Irving at what appears to be a family birthday party, there is no belief the Brooklyn Nets guard will return to the team's lineup this week, sources told ESPN.
Irving was already ruled out of his fourth straight game Tuesday night against Denver, and sources say that, at a minimum, he is expected to miss Wednesday's game against New York and Saturday's against Orlando. His absence has been attributed to personal reasons.
In the videos -- which began being widely shared Monday night -- a smiling Irving is dancing with his sister Asia on a confetti-covered floor and clapping as she blows out candles. If the video is found to be recent, that behavior could be a breach of the league's coronavirus protocols.
The league's COVID-19 guidelines forbid players from going to clubs, bars and lounges. They also ban attending social gatherings of more than 15 people.
EDITOR'S PICKS
COVID-19 is making this the most unpredictable NBA season ever
KD has 36 in return but Nets lose; Kyrie still out
This investigation comes during a turbulent week, as the league is reevaluating its coronavirus health and safety rules. The league has postponed three games this week as positive COVID-19 tests and contact-tracing quarantines mounted.
The NBA board of governors is holding a special meeting Tuesday, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Team general managers had a call on Monday that was focused on tightening the protocols.
The NBA has investigated other health and safety violations this season. In December, BlackSportsOnline published a video of James Harden partying, without a mask, purportedly at a Houston club's Christmas party. After an investigation, the league fined the Houston Rockets star $50,000 and he had to quarantine for four days while returning daily negative COVID-19 tests.
Harden never missed a game.
If a player misses a game for a COVID-19 violation, he would lose 1/72nd of his salary, according to league rules.

Kyrie missing games because of a couple hours of unrest in DC is the height of rich people privilege.

lol Sixers fans don't want to give up Maxey for Harden.
But then it's kinda sad that we could have drafted him ourselves...

Apparently Houston is then going to flip LeVert to Indiana for Oladipo.

I'm pretty surprised it ended up being Brooklyn and not Philly. Philly just made so much more sense for everyone. I honestly don't think this gets Brooklyn closer to a title. KD and Kyrie seemed to have something special (when Kyrie feels like showing up anyway.) I can't see those three guys co-existing for very long.
Not very bold prediction- Kyrie will end up demanding a trade in the next two seasons, or he will opt out.

Houston came out of this with a much more well rounded team
Wall
Oladipo
Tucker
Woods
Cousins
By season's end I think that'll be there starting unit

(sigh) I really hope you're right about KP being good enough to be the second best player on a championship team, because it looks like NOBODY is available to the Mavericks.

Brad Townsend doesn’t think this changes anything for Dipo’s situation. Someone asked him if this takes the Mavs out of the running for Oladipo.
@townbrad
I don't see Oladipo's situation as much different now than before the trade, so, no, though I greatly question whether he's the "missing piece" difference-maker.

All the empathy I was feeling for ex-Mav Stephen Silas has shifted to ex-Mav Steve Nash.

I don't see him as being necessarily that either. Just an upgrade over DFS or Richardson. I'm not sure the "missing piece" exists for the Mavericks right now. Giannis was the missing piece.

Yeah. I thought that was a strange way to answer the question. I wasn’t aware anyone was saying this. Definitely could be a nice get though.

So the Nets are the Thunder of almost a decade ago, only replace Westbrook with Kyrie. Yes Harden is better than he was then, but he's still a pain in the ass and so is Kyrie. I don't remember a team with two pain in the ass stars winning a chip and even KD can be moody, but trends can always be broken. They definitely quality as a big 3 and contenders in the East. Those are 3 big time scorers though and there's only one ball, and other than Durant they're not 2 way players either. We'll just have to see how it fits.
3 guys who all think they should take the last shot.
I don't get what's in this for Pacers I thought they were pretty good they're currently 7-4 4 seed in the East. Do they think LeVert is a star or are they rebuilding? 18 and 6 is no slouch, but I'm not sure if he's better than Oladipo.

Oladipo allegedly wanted out of Indiana
They probably traded him now in order to get something in return.

That's it. Oladipo has been disgruntled for like two years now. He's UFA this summer. He was definitely gone.

There should be various bets that can be placed on the Nets. Who will want out first will it happen inside or outside 12 months, what will happen first someone wants out or teammates want them gone.

Makes zero sense for the Rockets not to take Levert and Allen in this trade. Levert under contract, Allen RFA.
Oladipo can walk in a few months, there were allready Miami FA rumours...

I was just going to post the same thing! Wtf are they doing? Levert is on a value contract and Allen is RFA and really good. They came away with Dipo who will likely walk, pick swaps and some picks that may or not have value years from now?
And they send Harden to his preferred destination? What a joke.

Yeah, i'm kind of amazed they didn't make the deal with Philly. Honestly I think Simmons alone is worth more than everything they got in this deal.

Levert is a win for them - i'm not a believer in Oladipo's consistency and I think Levert can do just as much without any false pretense of being a "superstar". That team centers around Sabonis and I don't think they'll miss a beat at all.

Yes now they have to pray they get a player as good as Simmons with one of those picks. I even wondered if it was a low-key way for Fertita to cheap out. Oladipo likely walks. They trade PJ Tucker. Can they flip Oladipo right away?

Then you still take Levert and Allen and flip them again for expering contracts + picks/player on rookie contracts. Plenty of teams would be interested and give up assets, specially for Allen.
Trading for Oladipo and let him walk would be just stupid

I dunno, I actually think Dipo might be good on Houston provided he stays healthy.
And honestly, it might be better if they were mediocre versus outright terrible to stall their rebuild.
