Metta World Peace turns back into Ron Artest vs. OKC
What's the over/under on length of suspension?
It irks me how light the suspensions usually are for stuff like this. But given Artest's history, I think the league is going to come down very hard on him. Watch that replay in slo-mo--there is no way in hell that was not intentional.
If I were the commish, I'd make him ineligible for the playoffs. And tell him that his next flagrant ends his NBA career.

I was arguing with a buddy about this. If Bynum, who also had a history of delivering dangerous flagrants, only got 5 games for blatantly clotheslining an airborne JJB, then Artest doesnt really deserve much more than 5 games.

I'd like to see him ineligible for the playoffs, but I think a 5-10 game suspension is in order.

I would like to see his livelihood taken away just like he could have taken away hardens. As dirk says there is just no place for that and it is certainly more dangerous than what Roy tarp ley did.

Artest has an even more violent on-court history than Bynum, and that's not even including the Palace incident. I think Artest should get the entire postseason plus 10 games next season. This is one of the most egregious assaults I can remember. Nothing close to a basketball play involved here.

There shouldn't be any excuses for this incident. After watching the videos several times, I think that it was for sure intentional. He should be suspended for that. Throwing such an elbow to the head can cause severe damage. I have several years of personal experience in martial arts (Karate and Kung Fu (wǔshù, chinese martial arts)) and I can tell you that in the worst case this action can paralyze the victim or even kill (depending on the area which got hit). Especially if the person using it is strong as an ox like MWP. Using this elbow technique is actually illegal in the UFC because of the harm it can cause. I'm not saying that MWP wanted to hit exactly Harden's head, but he was for sure not caring about the part he hit.

This is an excellent point. People get lifetime bans for using drugs--where they're really only harming themselves--but one game for deliberate action that could easily end another player's career (and even his life). That elbow would amount to felony aggravated assault if it happened in a bar and have serious jail time associated.

I expect him to be suspended either 3 or 5 games or for the 1st round of the playoffs with no exact amount of games.
All things considered, I wouldn't bee too upset if he was back for a possible 2nd round matchup and thus missed a minimum amount of 5 games. I thought Bynum clotheslining JJB was worse than this, although I'm aware that this type of hit to the head can cause potentially serious injuries.
The NBA, due to concussions and their consequences being a bigger issue these days, could certainly want to set an example and suspend MWP for 10 games or more, though.

Serious. And Chuck Norris sucks too.
Anyone who likes James Harden likes a league where flopping and being a punk are part of the game.

It's possible to respect his legitimate skills without also getting a hard on from the non-basketball stuff.

Hmmmm... let me try to sell this like the Mavs-Thunder game last year...
Quote:
"It was not a vicious elbow," Chandler said before the Mavs' practice Sunday, when he was awaiting a ruling from the NBA. "I did not throw an elbow. I was trying to take the ball out of bounds. He tried to initiate contact and did a good job of flopping."
Chandler lifted his arms, with the ball in his hands, after bumping chests with Harden. There appeared to be minimal, if any, contact with Chandler's right elbow and Harden's face, but Harden stayed on the court for several seconds with his hands over his face. Harden stayed in the game and did not require any medical attention.
The NBA office agreed with the Mavericks' contention that Harden embellished the contact.
"He did a good job because he got me a technical and he got his team a point for it," Chandler said. "That's the case with a lot of them. They run into you, do little things. Whether you react or don't react, it seems that you kind of get caught up in the situation. It's our job just to stay away from it all. You come here to play basketball. You don't come here for the sideshow."

We all know Harden flops, but that was certainly not a flop, nor was it "justice".

Falling down from the contact wasn't a flop, but doing a barrel roll and lying down for longer than he needed to while taking a peek at the refs is considered flopping, imho.
It may not be "justice", but it is karma.

Why would Harden flop and fake a concussion when it means he'll have to sit out during the last few vital games of the season??
Think.

You're expectations are too high for someone named jhardon whose sense of justice is extremely misguided.
Anyway, like I said in another thread, 7 games is light. For that hit AND his history he should be done from the league and that has nothing to do with my absolute disdain for the Laker organization.

OKC still had a chance to lock up the conference if they'd topped the Lakers... Which is something else Harden sacrificed with his so-called "flop" - his presence was sorely missed for the rest of the game while he was milking that fake concussion.
Remove the tin foil hat... Now think.

Obviously you don't do enough thinking. Spurs own the tiebreaker, were 1 game ahead of the Thunder, had 1 more game in their schedule.
You can cheer for Harden and his flops when we play against them in the 1st round.

He is a flopper, but that was not a flop. That was the Predator getting pissed and knocking over a tree. I know I'm going to hell for this, but I LOL every time I see the GIF. I know it was serious, but it's slapstick. I can't hold back the laughter.
I know you will think I'm crazy, but I want the Lakers in the first round. It's the only way to go. Before you tell me I'm crazy, think back to how badly you didn't want to play the Lakers last year. We swept them. I'm not saying we will sweep them again. But I m saying that none of you can predict the future. No matter how hard you type on your keyboard to support your arguments and predictions, the dudes on the court determine the outcome. Sorry.

James Harden undergoes NBA concussion tests
OKLAHOMA CITY — Thunder forward James Harden underwent tests Monday following his concussion in the previous day’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers and will be re-evaluated on Tuesday.
Harden participated in limited activities on Monday but must go through additional steps under the NBA’s concussion policy before he is cleared to play again.
Harden dropped to the ground after taking a vicious backward elbow to the head from Metta World Peace after the Lakers’ forward had dunked over two Thunder players late in the second quarter of Los Angeles’ double-overtime win Sunday.
World Peace, who claims he accidentally clipped Harden while celebrating the dunk, faces discipline from the NBA as the regular season winds down and the Lakers prepare to open the playoffs this weekend.

Apparently the NBA is in on the conspiracy too!

I'm sure that hurt, but I don't put anything above harden after that dive vs Tyson Chandler. He must be a huge fan of Sergio Busquets:
