Ex Mavs in Playoffs
Since our team's season is over, I'm enjoying watching so many former Mavs still playing. Two of our former centers are defending their title in Oakland. Then there's Corey Brewer, who's heroics against Portland in 2011 opened the door to the Mavs championship. He's facing off against Jae Crowder, starting for Utah. It seems like every game I watch has former Mavs playing crucial roles.
Yet for all their individual roles on good teams, I don't find myself wishing we still had any of those guys. I'm just as happy with Finney Smith as I would be with Aminu or Crowder...they all suck shooting 3's, and Finney-Smith defends as well as any of them for less $$$. JaValle McGee has some good minutes at Golden State, but he sure didn't deliver here. And how about Larkin, with 4 turnovers in one quarter the other night?
So, are you seeing any former Mavs who you think would have made a real difference if we had kept them? Do you see major mistakes the brain trust made to let anyone worth keeping slip away? To me, besides nut case Rondo, they are all role players, and that is not our problem. We need a couple of guys who can score. We may have missed some by frittering away draft picks, but I'm just not finding myself thinking "if we'd only kept..." Are you?

Ellington played well today for the Heat.
It is annoying that Rondo is playing so well for the Pelicans. Why he quit on the Mavs is a question still yet answered.

Brewer's big moment in our title run was game 1 vs the Lakers. That 5-8 min he stretch he gave us turned that game around when it looked like LA was pulling away after halftime.

I don't really miss any of these guys, but I am glad to see Jason Terry in the playoffs one more time (even though he's barely playing).

I like watching J. Anderson of the 76'ers - loved him getting in Drama Wades face.
But like you say G-Man - he is more of a role player type.

Was it the Lakers? It was the only minutes he got in the entire playoffs, but without him, no rings. Dirk should buy him dinner anytime they are in the same city.
As for Rondo, I think once he decided that since he didn't like Carlisle, he would not be coming back to the Mavs next year, so he just started his vacation early. Now, he's feeding the ball to two of the best big men in the NBA. It just ain't fair to get rewarded for being such an ass. Oddly, of all the guys who got swapped around in that deal, Powell is probably the best. Did cost us a number 1 pick. Anybody know who that turned into?
EDIT:
Ok, I'm bored enough I looked it up. That pick went to Boston for Guerschon Yabusele. A French big who's played a year in China and most of last season in the G league, with the Maine Red Claws, where he averaged 20/8. (Motley averaged 22/10 in Frisco). We ended up with 3 undrafted players from that year. Yogi, Finney-Smith and Collingsworth, so we didn't miss much wasting that pick on Rondo.

If the team votes to not share playoff money with you, then you're not even considered to be part of the team by them either.

I didn't know Quinn Cook played for the Mavs. He had a nice run when Steph went out.
