That’s a huge bummer. Immediately thought of you when I read this on twitter.

Carlisle said last night that Doncic will be there and practice with the team but won’t play. He just finish a 100 game season with Real Madrid 3 days ago. They want him to rest. Also I don’t believe Dennis is playing either.

I could be wrong, but it seems like the Mavs are way more interested in free agency and trades than they are in recruiting for summer league.

Josh Adams and Phile Greene going to get some serious burn with Smith playing extremely "limited" minutes. Hopefully Brunson gets the start and plays heavy minutes in each game.
Motley and Wreath sharing center duties
Spalding and Atetokounmpo sharing the PF duties.
Actually pretty excited to see Brunson, Motley, Smith (if he plays), DFS, and Spalding and hoping to get a signature from Doncic.

Brunson and Motley are gonna ball. My sleeper is Spalding (if he can be, given he was drafted). I like the physicality to his game, and his defense looked solid.

Ray Spalding and Jonathan Motley are probably fighting for the same spot. I guess they could both play in Frisco, or maybe one gets called up.

Was this posted yet? I didn't see. Looking forward to seeing him in SL. That shooting stroke looks really smooth. I also didn't know he has nearly a 7'5 wingspan. That's a definite plus.

I doubt they are fighting for the same spot on the roster. Motley needs to be on the roster getting some minutes. He has proven to be a factor. I would think Spalding needs to prove it in d league just like Mot did.

Motley is a perfect backup to Jordan. Hope the FO sees it that way too.
Spalding has much higher hill to climb. He'll be fighting for Dwight Powell's minutes.

If Powell can shoot, he’s our PF. If not, he will continue to be the rolling center and will kill Motley’s monites

@EricaLubarsky Do you mean our starting PF?! I am curious how your starting lineup looks.
DSJ, Dončić, Barnes, Powell, and Jordan? It's a shame that Dirk isn't younger with these teammates. Cause I'd love to see DSJ, Dončić, Barnes, Nowitkzki, and Jordan in that lineup.
I'd still be surprised if Matthews isn't a starter though once he's recovered from his injury. Until then maybe you're right about Powell starting at PF.

I don't want to derail every thread with this topic, but Wes's name keeps coming up. Maybe the Mavs changed their minds and want to keep him, but he was nearly traded twice in a matter of two weeks. That means the probably of him being on the roster next season is low.

I think erika and I might be in the vast minority that would run this as a starting lineup or more minutes with this lineup.
Dsj - jjb/brunson
Doncic- wes- curry or f.a.
Barnes- dfs or f.a. -
Powell - dirk - kleber- spalding- kostas
Deandre - motley- dirk- kleber

IF Powell can shoot. If he can't his only viable offensive contribution is diving to the rim. He's become darn efficient at finding creases and putting pressure on the defense, but in Rick's offense PG, SG, SF, and PF have to shoot it.
If Powell can't shoot, he can only play center for Rick.

Powell was knocking down open 3s at the end of last season. It wasn’t a lot of volume to go off of, but the stroke looked pure & he did it in an NBA game as opposed to in an empty gym surrounded by folding chairs. I’m willing to give Powell another year to see how much further his jump shot can develop. I have high hopes Doncic can aide in Powell’s shooting development.
Edit: Post All Star break last season, Powell shot 14 of 32 from distance or 43.8%

Summer league isnt playing around anymore. Few years back tickets were like 18-22 bucks for the day. Now its $35. I totally understand why.
Oh and I can also get courtside for $500 lol. If youve seen the Thomas and Mack and/or the Cox Pavilion before youll know why thats funny.
Gonna tryyyy to swing for Monday when we play the Warriors.

Remember hitting up the Summer League not too long ago. Saw Popeye coach and tried to see Pavel Podkolzin play so it would have been 2004 or 2005-- only a bit over a decade years ago
Tickets were $10 for the entire day. Almost no security around. Almost no one in the stands. Popcorn and soda were free and provided by UNLV event staff.Things were so dead and lax that we snuck down to be right behind the bench and heard Popeye telling jokes.
My game 1 ticket was $35 and, yeah $500 for a courtside seat. Crazy. At least Thomas and Mack is basically a high school gym so every seat is pretty good.

Mavs add Collinsworth to the roster and confirm that Doncic probably won't play. Did physicals and paperwork today while the team had the first practice.

Trae Young looks terrible. It's only one quarter but yeah... he looks rly small. And he's already air balled 2 3's from "steph land".

Doesn't look like he's gonna get a lot of burn, if any.

God I'm so glad we got Luka. People on Twitter are saying Trae is getting frustrated because he can't get all the way to the rim, so he's just jacking up shots which is....exactly what scouts were saying would happen. It's only summer league of course but not a great start.
Jaren Jackson looking great though. 3/4 from 3 with 10 points.

Yeah that's exactly what is happening. He's so small his man doesn't have to move his feet much to stay in front, and he's so small you can contest his shot easier. He doesn't have the Steph quick release or handle creativity. I know it's just one quarter but he doesn't just look bad he looks like the worst player on the floor. Not seeing any great passes either. I agree about JJJ. I said before that if he hit on all his potential he's prolly the best big in this draft. I still think that's true. Cuz as great as Bamba can be he can't play the 4 and 5 and handle pnr defense like JJJ can.

Yea, Summer league is always a cluster f. There is no chemistry or flow. I won't bet against Trae.
I'm super fn happy that we got Luka and it sucks we won't get to see him.

Except it's much harder for forwards and centers than guards. Guys that control the ball shouldn't have that many issues-- particularly Young who was on a team of utter trash so he should be used to it.
He's getting destroyed on defense and he's now 0-9 (0-6 from three)
