Great pick. Can't believe he fell to us. I wanted Monk, but DSJ was my 3rd favorite player for is in this draft behind Fultz and Monk.

Wouldn't be surprised if you have to be in the top 16-18 to get Semi. Idk what we have to get there. What a dream tho.

Wonder if the night is over for the Mavs?
If so it has been a good one but I want more.

I read we can't buy a pick that we only have 270k or something left after trading Evans last year or something Idk how that works didn't look it up. So the only way we get a pick is trading a future pick or absorbing salary from a team like Portland for their 3rd pick they still have.

Super excited about DSJ! I guess they went with the pure point guard that can attack the rim. Can't argue with that.

If we are signing Holiday it would have been better to draft Monk.

Maybe Holiday plays SG? He's 6'4"... I mean, we'd have to unload Wes to create enough cap space to sign Jrue anyway, so it's not a given.

No. I backed up Monk the whole time, but DSJ is the pick if he is there. The Holiday noise means nothing until FA starts.

Or like trading down to get the money for Dwight "im sure he is coming because his agent says so" Howard
In the draft u get the BPA and dont think about the FA

The Bam pick actually doesn't surprise me other than that fact that Miami has Whiteside.

@Boweman55: Finley was asked if there's potential for more action coming in the draft.
"That's why I'm down here and not Donnie," he said laughing.

I predicted Monk with the dark horse Collins who were 10 and 11, so I wasn't far off. Just glad our guy was there at 9.

So much for that Holiday talk...
Matthew Postins @PostinsPostcard
Donnie: Drafting DSJ pretty much negates need to pursuing FA PG this offseason #MavsDraft17 #MFFL

Wouldn't mind if that pick was for us....Ferguson at 6'7" as a 3-D guy would be a nice complement to Smith down the road.

Yea. Though I was surprised how well DFS shot the 3 in spurts and overall play. I'm hoping he takes a big step next season.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Jrue honestly. I would really like for Wes to play 2 again and get a bigger SF or similiar PF type to pair with HB.

I woukd like for Wes to play somewhere else.. given his contract. If not for a bad contract I would like him here, off the bench

It all feels like a dream. Getting DSJ in this draft is an absolute home run. Dig into his camp footage. Guy is elite. Dominant. Under rated because everyone wants the next Greek Freak or John Wall clone. They want to validate their genius by picking the next Porzingis or Dirk. Over thinking the process imo.
In all the same ways that Fultz was still the best player in the draft despite mediocre to terrible defense on a bad team, so is DSJ. He carries slightly more risk due to the knee injury and lack of size, but he is as explosive, dynamic, and skilled as they come. There is no draft where he shouldn't of been a top 5 pick.
I'll stick to what I've said from the beginning. Fultz, then Monk, then DSJ. I'm not mad we skipped Monk. It made sense in the situation and the Mavs love their locker room. Would of taken some serious rearranging to make it fit and build around. You give me the 3rd pick and I would be asking for the same guy.

The NBA comparison for DSJ is Steve Francis...and I think the comparison seems pretty apt. If so, getting a Stevie Franchise with the 9th prick is an absolutely steal. He wants to be NBA rookie of the year...and he might make that happen.

Yeah the Chris Paul comparison is way off but other than that thanks UD for landing us our new point guard!
