Here's the much-anticipated T-Mac article about Parsons leaving the Mavericks. Gives an insider perspective on his relationship with Cuban as well as both sides' perspectives on what happened leading up to the early days of free agency.

I personally have nothing against Parsons. I wish him well. I think he was really good for us when he was healthy, and if we knew we could count on him for 75+ games per season over the next four years I think he'd still be here. But the MBT obviously had pretty good info regarding his knee surgeries and that was that. I think Barnes is going to prove to be a good investment and probably more valuable than Parsons.

I think there is a lot of reason to be upset about the Mavs past few years, but I think some of that anger is falsely being directed at Parsons. Parsons didn't quit on the team like Rondo. He didn't throw drama around like confetti. He didn't pout. He just looked for a deal (like Nash) and got one with another team when we didn't offer him one. I don't blame the Mavs for not maxing a guy who may never be healthy for the playoffs and I don't blame Parsons for looking after himself and getting a good contract.

I don't think he should be booed, but I'm sure we'll hear some tonight.

It is a little troubling that Parsons was so deeply entrenched in our decision making process for largely not proving anything. I was a big Parsons supporter while he was here because I do think, if healthy, he could have been good. But he was hurt both years, and I'm not sure he's going to be much more than a perimeter shooter going forward with that knee issue. Barnes has already shown me more than Parsons ever did though in just 10 games. Even in Parsons best stretch as they described in that article, my memory tells me it was mostly done off ball as a catch and shoot 3pt guy and his usual pump fakes. He also was pretty good in transition. Something we don't have the personnel to even see Barnes do much of. He never showed an ability to beat his man 1 on 1. And it seems the sole reason he was given that kind of influence was because Cuban and he became such good friends.

I do like that the other guys in the MBT group(Donnie, RC, Casey, Dirk) unanimously said no and Cuban listened so there's that but after reading this article I'm even more happy that he's gone. Because if Cuban had his way we really would be building around Parsons despite his injuries. I also would add that I do think Parsons will make a very very good FO guy, prolly a better FO guy than a player if his injuries remain an issue. When his playing career is over I'd be more than "ok" with him being in our FO down the line. The Jordan Wes idea was a good one IMO, he and monta did not get along on or off the court, and if it's true he wanted us to look at Barnes that was also a very good move it looks like. So i do think he has a good basketball mind.

Good read, thanks for posting. Keep forgetting Shammgod is part of the Mavs staff. One of the best ballhandlers ever is a good person to learn from.

Thats great news, both for Mavs and Bogut. Unfortunately Mavs would have to take contract back and we are probably talking about Zeller who would occupy 8 million against the next season's cap.

Mavs Would Only Trade First Rounder For Top-5 Player In NBA
Mark Cuban is unlikely to part ways with the Dallas Mavericks' first round pick this year.

Cuban suggested he would only trade the Mavericks' first rounder, currently projected to be a top-5 selection, in exchange for a top-5 player in the entire NBA.

Cuban referenced the Dallas Cowboys' historical trade of Herschel Walker that setup their success of the 1990s as what it would take to trade the pick.

"If Herschel Walker calls me up and says, ‘That's better than any deal I've ever been involved with,'" Cuban joked.

The 2017 NBA Draft is expected to be one of the deepest in recent memory, particularly at the point guard position.

I was relieved to read that on Cuban the other day. I was worried earlier in the season about his thoughts on the draft. FTR, Ball looks reallllly good, and Im at a toss up on Fultz/Ball

7. The Mavs, looking like a real team again

Watching the Mavs won't feel quite right until That Dude is lofting one-legged fadeaways that drip down the backboard. But with Deron Williams, J.J. Barea, and Devin Harris back, at least Dallas looks like a real NBA team again. They're 4-4 in their last eight games, with a rousing win over the gagging Blazers on Wednesday.

A month ago, it was painful to watch these guys grind for 80 points. In some games, it seemed like every play was an isolation for Harrison Barnes on the block or at Dirk's old spot smack in the middle of the foul line. Barnes managed, but going to that well over and over is the sign of a dead-in-the-water offense. The Mavs just didn't really have anyone else who could dribble.

With Williams and Barea back, Dallas can lean on the good ol' spread pick-and-roll. Williams has been hot, and Dorian Finney-Smith looks like a real find. He's defending four positions - including Damian Lillard for much of that Portland win - and looking more confident on offense. His jumper isn't quite there, but it's not busted, either; Finney-Smith is shooting 35 from deep, and if he ekes past league-average, Dallas may have something.

I took it as the other way actually. That the Mavs could be looking to move the pick for a superstar rather than think Fultz is that superstar.

Sounds more like NBA executives think Cuban prefers to ship the pick for someone like Cousins or Wall.

There was also this:

This is the way I took it. Mavs want to move the pick for an established superstar. However, considering Cuban doesn't think Westbrook is a superstar I'm curious who they think they can obtain with their pick.

Yeah I'm guessing executives are just speculating that until Cuban shows he can be patient and "trust the process", that he's always going to be looking for the shortcut. I guess time will tell if they are right or not.

He would trade the pick for Westbrook. Cuban just says things.

"At first, we just wanted him to be able to command a double-team," guard Devin Harris said of Barnes. "Now teams are starting to double-team him, and he's making decisions. He's starting to see other guys and get shots for open guys, which takes his game to another level."

Nobody appreciates the work Barnes is doing more than Nowitzki. He's been the man for so long, hundreds of men have come and gone in the Mavericks organization.

Nowitzki continues to be impressed with the work ethic Barnes exhibits and the talent he has.

Just recently, he's seen Barnes find Deron Williams and Harris for wide-open 3-pointers after drawing the double-team in the post. Those are plays that stars make -- the sort of plays that don't necessarily end with him putting the ball in the basket.

"He's making plays now that he wasn't making a month ago, or even a couple weeks ago," Nowitzki said. "Just being there, he has more experience now. He knows how to get his shot up and if not, where his open guys are. He's trying to play an all-around game for us."

1) what are the odds that no one offers any positive assets for Bogut and he just walks this offseason?

2) Whiteside apparently being shopped according to a few rumors. How funny would it be if the Mavs traded for him? A little ridiculous, because it would require us to probably trade Dirk who can veto trades. Then again, we dump Dirk, Bogut and youth for Dragic and Whiteside. Dirk retires and returns as a coach. We may not be great, but it's the most Cuban thing ever.

Some team will still give up something for a slow big man center. Rather the question is, what do you consider as positive assets? For me, 2nd round pick with no long term salary is positive. I would prefer two 2nd round picks, as I do not see him getting much more and by returning salary it is okay to have someone locked for next season also. There is no big name Mavs are going after this summer, other than draft, so you can take back salary.

When it comes to Whiteside. Well, in that case you still would have to give up unprotected 1st rounder. Riley would not even pick up the phone for anything else. Of course, with Whiteside, this 1st rounder would probably end up somewhere in the range of 10-15. Therefore you would give up two top10 protected 1st round picks and some talent.

“He’s getting better defensively, offensively he can shoot the ball. He’s more comfortable where he’s going to get his shots, which helps. He’s only played [87] games [in 3 1/2 seasons] — he’s going to get better.”

In the last three games, Curry has averaged 17 points and shot 62.1 percent (18 of 29) from the field. That includes going 8 of 13 from 3-point range.

Since joining the Mavs via free agency (two years, $6 million) from Sacramento last summer, Curry has not only made an impact with his offense; his defense has improved exponentially.

“He’s given us good defense in a lot of these games, and he gives us another scoring threat,” coach Rick Carlisle said. “Since Seth has been here he’s worked harder than he’s ever had in the weight room.

“I think we’ve asked more of him in there — and he’s gotten stronger and that helps his defense. And he’s had some really good defensive games recently.”

“We’ve played better, but people aren’t putting us in the top three of the NBA yet,” said Cuban, whose team is 3-2 in its last five games. “And that’s the goal, to get to championship caliber, so it’s a fair conversation.

“My solution is to hope everybody behind us and just in front of us wins a lot. So I’m rooting for Philly to win out — except for us — Minnesota to win out, Phoenix to win out, Brooklyn to win out, that way we can keep on getting better and not worry about it.”

The trade deadline is Feb. 23, and there are bound to be more rumors about Bogut being dealt. But he said after the Mavericks were blitzed by Russell Westbrook's 45 points -- 30 in the second half -- that he's not certain what will happen.

Cuban would be doing this franchise a huge disservice if he does not trade Bogut before the trade deadline. I don't care if it's for a future 2nd rounder. The guy has no figures with the franchise, so you might as well get something for him.
