Not as scary as Miami to me. Older guys with some major defensive weaknesses. Even with veterans like that it's going to take some time to figure out. And how are all the guys going to react to Kobe's hero-ball?

Jamison (and I guess World Peace) are shells of their former selves. Even in his prime, Jamison was an offense-only guy with a decent total-package on offense. The guy just has no hope of defending SFs when he can barely defend the PF position. Dwight will be nice but Jamison will be a defensive liability.
Still, he'll be scary for the Lakers with Nash running things and Dwight defending the middle. I predict he'll get some looks as 6th man of the year.

At least we have 2011.
Hope that team fizzles out like the 2004 Lakers with GP/Kobe/Malone/Shaq, but I doubt it.

All it takes after all this is just for Orlando to get back Afflalo, Harrington, and Vucevic.

I actually think the new Lakers are actually pretty scary without Kobe and probably better without him. With Kobe? The team just jacks up shots and wins/loses based on Kobe's selfish (and often ill-advised) shooting. Nash+ a post defender= one scary combo.
Nash/Gasol/Dwight is a scary combo. Dwight anchors the defense and Dwight's total lack of offense won't be an issue with Nash running point. Gasol is a decent PF with some mid-range and some post moves. If he ever grows some balls, that will be a pretty decent team.
Dwight
Pau
World-Peace
Kobe
Nash
Looks like half a 2009 allstar team.

Why do teams always bend over backwards to make the Lakers better?

This is the argument I was having with my Brother-in-law just a few minutes ago, and he's a Lakers fan. I told him that everyone wants to go to either the Lakers, or Boston, etc.
I hate the NBA the way it's set up. It's set up to accommodate just a few teams. I'll bet this, if Durant never wins before his contract is up, he'll be trying to join forces with the Lakers, or Boston or teams like that.
I just wish that the NBA would spread the talent out. Make it like the NFL which is the greatest sport on earth in my opinion (Soccer for others) and it continues to be because they don't cater to specific teams.
**** the NBA.

We'd still be competing for our third championship if we only had
Chandler 3yrs/42mill
Nowitzki 2yrs/44mill
Marion 2yrs/18mill
Barea 2yrs/9.2mill
Terry 3yrs/15mill
Boobs 1yr/2.2mill
DoJo 1yr/1.3mill
Wright 1yr/1mill
-----------------
58mill (the cap) this year.
Maybe Kidd again. Coulda had Collison and Jones.
Oh well, I guess Johnny Capspace beats the guaranteed championships we would have had with that squad last year and this.

He's quite a bit better. "That much"? I dunno. Perhaps not.
I'd be tempted to say that, with the uncertainty w/ Howard's back, maybe it's closer than people might think. But then again, Bynum's had his own history of injury issues....

Offensively? Not really. But defensively? World's better. Howard is a shot intimidator around the rim. And with Pau's already length and his own shot blocking ability... throw in MWP's perimeter defense and Kobe's perimeter defense... you are looking at one formidable defensive group.

Sources: Dwight Howard to Lakers
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/82...-deal-complete
A four-team trade that would send Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers is complete, multiple sources told ESPN on Thursday night.
A source with direct knowledge of the talks told ESPN.com's Marc Stein the Lakers will receive Howard, the Denver Nuggets will acquire Andre Iguodala, the 76ers will receive Andrew Bynum and Jason Richardson, and the Magic will get Arron Afflalo, Al Harrington, Nikola Vucevic and one protected future first-round pick from each of the three teams.
In addition, the Magic will be getting other pieces, including 76ers No. 1 draft pick Moe Harkless, a source told Stein.
Sources close to the process told Stein and ESPNLosAngeles.com's Ramona Shelburne that a trade call with the league office has been scheduled for Friday to secure the necessary NBA approval to make the deal official.
Lakers forward Pau Gasol had been in and out of talks, sources told Shelburne, before ultimately being excluded.
One source briefed on Howard's plans told Stein the All-Star center will indeed stand firm on his intent to play out the 2012-13 season without extending his contract so he can become a free agent on July 1, 2013. Going that route will enable Howard to decide how comfortable he is in Los Angeles before deciding whether to re-sign with the Lakers or join the Dallas Mavericks, who will have the requisite salary-cap space to sign Howard and remain one of his preferred destinations from his original list of three teams (Brooklyn Nets, Lakers and Mavericks).
"If Los Angeles doesn't work out for Dwight, Dallas will be there waiting for him," the source told Stein.
One source close to Kobe Bryant, meanwhile, told Stein the Lakers' star was estatic Thursday night upon hearing that Los Angeles was able to complete such a significant transaction without surrendering Gasol. Bryant is with Team USA at the London Olympics.
Sources told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard that Philadelphia has not spoken to Bynum or his representatives, and has no assurances he will sign a long-term extension with the team.
"The Sixers are willing to take a shot (without Bynum's commitment)," one source said.
Although Bynum signing an extension with the 76ers is not out of the question, according to a source, his stance all summer has been he only will sign an extension with the Lakers.
Bynum, who grew up about an hour away from Philadelphia in Plainsboro, N.J., could sign a three-year, $60 million extension this season or wait to become a free agent after the season and be eligible for a five-year, $102 million deal.
Earlier Thursday, Yahoo! Sports, citing sources, reported that talks of a four-team trade involving Howard have taken place this week and have "grown serious."
Near the end of July, Howard met with Magic general manager Rob Hennigan and reiterated his desire to be traded, and if he isn't, would leave the team as a free agent after next season.
The Lakers' position on Howard had remained relatively unchanged for the past few months, league sources familiar with the situation told ESPNLosAngeles.com. The Lakers always had been willing to trade for Howard without assurances he'd re-sign with them after the season, believing that once Howard experienced a championship culture, he would want to stay.

Good thing Chris Kaman can operate away from the paint - Dwight Howard won't be able to stop us!
(yeah, I'm grasping at straws here...)

Camps just starting in two months. Two more months for Hennigan to search better deals or try to lure Morey into giving up Lamb or the Raps pick.
He also knew after dec 15 he can trade any day Dwight/Jrich for Kaman/Mayo/Roddy/Collison....
I dont get why now...for this crap

I'm not worried one bit. Dirk and Kaman can both pull Howard out of the paint. I can't wait for opening night.

It doesn't matter what talent the Lakers, Heat, Celtics, or Nets accumulate. The Mavs will have Team Spirit and that's what wins Championships.

Yeah, I just don't get the love affair that teams in the NBA have with the Lakers regarding trades.
Team X has Sammy Superstar. Team X wants to trade him. All the other teams start inquiring about possible scenarios. Team X squawks about having to have other superstars and lots of draft picks. The Lakers call Team X up. Team X trades Sammy Superstar to the Lakers for literally sh*t.

It's all right. We're gonna get the next one, or the one after that. Now they can't go to the Lakers, or the Heat, or Brooklyn, or Knicks. All of them are set, no cap space, no young prospects. They gotta come to the Mavs.
