Maybe there is a small chance to get Lawson. Too bad we gave away the 2016 1st for Rondo

Would Dirk be willing to take a bench role? Having Dirk off the bench would be SICK.

He's alluded to it this season already. He knows if his shot isn't falling, which is a lot more miss nowadays that he is a complete liability on the floor.

When did Dirk say he'd take a bench role? That's news to me... Link?

I'd rather have Dirk sit out back-to-back games and 3 games in 4 nights type of situations than to have him come off the bench permanently. I think in the playoffs he has shown he can still rebound if he's determined to, although his defense is still a minus overall. In the regular season I think he does take possessions off because he can't deliver in the full 30 mins he plays. I can see his mins cut a bit more to around 25-26 but less than that he won't be effective and have a good rhythm.
Only situation I see him coming off the bench is if LMA is onboard, which I find it to be a long shot.
Absent of any big name FA, I wouldn't mind seeing Tyson, Monte, Aminu, and Devin Harris back. I think Rondo and Amare are gone. Their replacements should hopefully be 3-point shooters or defensive stoppers (or both).

Parsons ball handling was underused this season. I would like him to average at least 4 assists next season. Not sure it will happen though.

@espn_macmahon: LaMarcus Aldridge buzz has started, but another potential Mavs prime summer target: DeAndre Jordan, who has made it known he's interested.

As long as Jordan gets in here and starts working on free throws immediately. And I'd guess that means Chandler is gone or signing small money to come off the bench.

I hate to say this because I love the guy, but Chandler ended up being fairly pedestrian for us in the playoffs... I don't know if it's because the lack of depth at center all season burned him out, or because Dwight was too much for him to handle, or just because our team defense was so awful that it nullified his greatest strengths, but he didn't really do any one thing well in this series. Considering his performance and his age, I'm not sure if I'm interested in bringing him back unless it's at a discount.

I'm not against replacing TC. He was totally out matched not only against Howard but really any of the better C's in the league. For all the talk of needing a better PG to compete, IMHO it was really our post play which killed us in the playoffs. Whoever we have starting at C next season, it would be wise to have a real backup option which RC will play consistent minutes.

Or, you know, just find a center who doesn't have to severely limit their minutes because they're old. The need for a solid backup is diminished when you have a guy who can play 36 MPG... It's seriously time for the Mavericks to start getting younger.

Sounds like DJ is just playing us to up his mkt value. Why would he want to leave the Clippers, who are better, younger, have a perfect point guard for him, and can pay him much more than we can? Doesn't make any sense.

If the Clips are ousted in the First Round after taking a 2-0 lead I could see them not paying DJ.
Edit: Sign the beast! Can never have a big enough center. Except maybe Shawn Bradley.

This was my first thought, but he is from Houston and went to Texas A and M. He is also supposedly very religious, so maybe LA the city isn't the draw that it is for most players. I mean he did choose to go to Texas A M.

Exactly what I'm thinking as well. LAC knows the free throw handicap and are they willing to break the bank....maybe if someone else is willing to pony up....they might. It's a nice seed thrown out by his agent.

Well, one example: there's an annoyance there that's likely not going away in the near future.

Love the tease but all in all Im still skeptical Mavs can pull it off. Hesitant after all the misses. Sucks the Spurs couldnt finish them off last night.

The odds are dramatically better than LMA coming to Dallas. That said, it's still not a given.

Defensively absolutely, he is merely above average and not near the DPOY caliber defender people make him out to be. Still he has showed considerable offensive potential, to where I can see him being near as efficient in a bigger role. Furthermore his rebounding and athleticism would be a ideal compliment to Dirk. But ultimately it would be about getting another good young player and improving the Mavs future outlook.
Look I love Tyson but he looked bad defensively after the hip thing, he was no where near as explosive as early in year and his rim protection and recoveries it showed.
Ultimately I am for Deandre, hopefully at a little less than the max he'd get (he'd only really get max money for 1 year but still not sure he's worth it, that being said sometimes overpaying in FA isn't a bad thing). There are definite arguments to both sides but I like getting a good young player.

I don't get the whole trade Devin Harris for cap space thing, he's an injury risk but worth a lot more than his salary, he's one of best backup PG's in the league.

Yeah 4.053 mill really isn't a burden. Vet min for a guy of his experience would be 1.5 mill and he's not that much higher than that for a guy who can be one of the better relief PGs in the league when healthy.

Whole year we are talking about spacing issues and Devin shot 35% from downtown and 42% overall from the field.
Against Houston a great 0-11 from downtown and 35% from the field. 4 Assist and 4 TO...
His defense is kind of overrated and maybe slightly above average.
I also dont like his decision making, shot selection and idiotic heat checks...

could be a nice point guard for us...
Brazilian point guard Marcelo Huertas plans NBA jump
Dan Feldman @ probasketballtalk.com
Marcelo Huertas has excelled while representing teams of two continents – the Brazilian national team and FC Barcelona.
Now, he’s preparing a jump to a third.
Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports:
After years of playing significant roles in the Euroleague and on the Brazilian national team, point guard Marcelo Huertas is planning a move to the NBA next season, Yahoo Sports has learned.
Huertas, 31, a savvy, athletic 6-foot-3 playmaker and a deft shooter, is expected to be aggressively pursued as a backup guard in July free agency.
Huertas has been anchored to the Spanish ACB League the past six years with long-term deals that contained significant NBA buyouts, but finally is free of those hurdles. He hasn’t ruled out returning to FC Barcelona next year if the right NBA offer doesn’t emerge, but Huertas is determined to take a serious look at joining the NBA.
On one hand, this is the right time, because the NBA has become a pick-and-roll league and Huertas is a pick-and-roll point guard with good floor vision.
On the other hand, this is a tough time, because point guard is such a deep position in the NBA.
Still, Huertas should get offers. Whether any are high enough to convince him to leave Spain is another question that’ll be answered this summer.
“This is the right time,” Huertas told Yahoo Sports.

Devin Harris was very good this past season. The median in three point % is 34.7 the league as a whole has shot it worse, up expectations for PG a bit and Devin was an average shooter for a PG while taking 50% of shots as threes so at a vey high volume. Amongst 74 qualified PG's Harris was 11th in TS% at 55.9%. He is only 37th out of 74 in assist rate but 13th in TO%. I think Harris took step back defensively this year and on/off numbers suggest that, but he was still very good.
