Yeah that sucked. I was not pleased.
I found myself watching fencing this afternoon as well. That was kind of confusing, and surprisingly high-tech.

Yes, more goals, more turnovers and a game can turn around within some minutes - that´s really american. But not as interesting as NFL or so, in my opinon. But handball and hockey are not that popular in germany, where soccer rules.
Finals/semis. I meant world championships or european championships.
Champions: European country champions play out the best league team in europe. That´s mostly close games.

I liked the effect of blacking out everything but the strip they were the competition was. It was nice a dramatic effect, at least for me. I dunno how they could really keep up with who struck first and everything so quickly.
I'm pretty interested in the swimming events tonight.

Been watching:
Lots of soccer.
Lots of bball
Swimming
Mens volleyball
Water polo <- surprisingly entertaining, at least to me
Rowing(what is it called?) <- boring
Why are the Chinese so good at everything now? Is this one of those deals where they're drafting kids at the age of 4 and making them do ______ until they're really good at it, like the Russians used to do? It seems like they have manufactured a strong showing for themselves, and they aren't going to be denied in winning the most medals.

I think that's what they're doing now, start them super young.
With water polo half of the time I was thinking...where the hell is the ball?
"You almost drowned him."
"I was going for the ball!!!! Do you need glasses?!?!?"

Water polo is hard to watch if it isn't in HD.
I've watched it in years past and thought "what in the heck is going on???" but now I have the HD and I can actually see what's happening.

Yeah I had it in HD, but it was my first time to ever watch it. That's probably what my hang-up was...just not familiar with the sport.

After the 2004 games, the Chinese officials actually started a plan for the Chinese to only focus on competitions where they can medal. Sure, you have the soccer, basketball, etc. competitions but for the most part, the government implemented a program where the meat of focus will be on competitions with lots of medals as opposed to team sports such as basketball where you only get one gold for 20 guys. They want to overthrow the US with most medals won and this is how they're doing it.

This year China is going after quanity not quality. winning the gold in beekeeping and gemsweater weaving, doesn't make you an athlete in my book.

That was such a great replay when Phelps was looking down at the wall, and then looks up at the clock/scoreboard and you could see it dawn on him on his face....priceless. What a cool moment.

i can't think of a time when i got so caught up in an event while it was going. i started out just curious to see if phelps would get another gold and ended up giving my first ever swimming fist pump.
and i love watching water polo. it's always been one of my olympic staples. i can't imagine what kind of stamina you have to have to go from treading water to sprinting 50 meters, back to treading water, back to sprinting. and also have guys on the other team wrapping their legs around you trying to drown your ass.

Just in case anyone cares, the NBCOlympics site has archives online for the majority of events anyone would care about over this past weekend. I"ll be wasting my entire work day today catching up with Germany vs Angola, USA vs China and various other things.

DO make sure you watch the mens 4x100 meter relay that we've all been talking about above. It's so great.
In other news, China is kicking our arse 14-12 in the medal count. Thanks to their 4 medals in weightlifting, "shooting," judo, and archery.
I hope this changes.
