No one foresaw this happening...
Actually, pretty much everyone did

Quote:
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Houston forward Ron Artest was held out of Monday night's game against the Memphis Grizzlies because of a sore right ankle, the latest Rockets player to be sidelined with an injury.
Artest, in his 10th year out of St. John's, is the Rockets' second-leading scorer at 15.7 points a game. He scored 28 points in 35-plus minutes against Golden State on Friday night. Artest had started all 20 games for the Rockets this season before sitting out Monday.
Artest joins a growing list of Houston players beset by injuries. Tracy McGrady missed his sixth straight game with left knee soreness, while guard Brent Barry is out with a small tear in the Plantar muscle on his right leg. Rookie Joey Dorsey also was expected to miss the game with a right foot injury.
|
Stir that up with the games Yao has already missed and this season becomes the typical Houston Rockets season.

You're eventual SG for the Rockets when the injury dust settles.
I'm having way too much fun with pictures lately...

If Houston was a college football team, they would be OU, because they suck!

Maybe we just need a central thread for all Rocket injury news.
And we can make it a sticky so it's always at the top.

Houston forward Ron Artest will miss the team's next two games because of a sprained right ankle.
The Rockets have so many injuries that they barely have enough players to field a proper practice.
"We've got to win games and keep our heads above water," Coach Rick Adelman said. "If we're going to have injuries like this, you just have to win as many as you can."
Artest sat out Monday's loss in Memphis, the first game he's missed this season. He had an MRI exam Tuesday that revealed damaged ligaments in the ankle, an old injury that Artest recently re-aggravated.

If my face were anywhere near her thighs it would be intentional - so no need to be careful

They didn't when the thread was started.
And who the hell cares? Mavs fans aren't the ones trumpeting our team as a "legit contender." The Rockettes are the same overrated, "better on paper" ball-club they've been for years.

I mean, we all knew about the injuries of our "Big Three" though. I don't think anyone is surprised that the Artest, Yao, and McGrady have been injured this season already. We are still a better team than last year, and I think we're finally coming together now. We need to collect these garbage wins though. We've lost against some pathetic teams.

When this thread was created 12-8, 7:30pm central--Rox 7 losses (they had not lost the game on 12-8 yet) Mavs-8 losses. Thru 20 games: Rox-7 losses and Mavs 9 losses. Anyway who cares like you said. I did not create this thread.
I'm not arguing against the core of your post about being overrated. The rox need to prove you wrong or not. As far as rox fans calling the rockets contenders--if they can stay healthy, they will gel and play incredible ball down the stretch this year. If they don't stay healthy, well they will fall short. I'd rather take the rox with a chance of injury than the mavs organazation which is in a tailspin/nosedive-fall from (near) grace.

The thing with the Rockets is, they play down to their competition. This is normal, but they play down to their competition way to much. You don't see a team like the Celtics doing that. Rockets need to learn how to put the beat down every night, and not only play hard when they're playing a good team.

got good news today:
Injuries not serious
The Rockets are not over their injuries, but they're headed in that direction, with Joey Dorsey available Friday, Brent Barry expected back tonight in Minnesota and Rafer Alston expected back on the Rockets’ road trip.
“Fortunately, most of the things we have are not serious, turned ankles, pulled hamstring,” Rockets coach Rick Adelman said. “You just have to get through it. If you weather the storm and win as many games as you can, when you get everybody back, we’ll be OK.
“Trying to look at a positive, there are not real serious injuries here. They’re just injuries that cause us not to move forward. The good news is guys are coming back. Hopefully in a couple weeks we’ll have guys feeling better.”
Thank God, only a couple more guys to go before we can see everyone somewhat healthy.

Another "we'll be back soon" week. Big deal.
Next week will be "new injuries sidelining players" week.
The week after that will be another "we'll be back soon" week.

We are just hoping for a figurative break, but sometimes we're delt with a literal break.
Oh well, I'm not going to cry about it-big deal.
later.

Rockets sign 42-year-old Mutombo
Associated Press
HOUSTON -- The Houston Rockets re-signed 42-year-old center Dikembe Mutombo for the remainder of the season on Tuesday, adding an emotional leader and a backup to Yao Ming.
Mutombo, who supplants 39-year-old Sam Cassell as the league's oldest active player, appeared in 39 games for Houston last season, logging most of his minutes after Yao broke his left foot in February. Mutombo averaged five rebounds, three points and 1.2 blocks.
He became a free agent after last season and contemplated retirement before deciding to come back for an 18th season.
The Rockets dropped to 20-12 on Monday after an embarrassing 89-87 loss to Washington. Nearly every player on the Houston roster has missed games due to injury this season and Yao has sat out at least 25 games because of injuries over the past three seasons.
Mutombo started 25 games last season, mostly after Yao broke his foot, and averaged 16 minutes per game. The Rockets traded Steve Francis to Memphis on Christmas Eve, creating salary space to add Mutombo, the NBA's second career shot blocker behind Hakeem Olajuwon.
The Rockets play Milwaukee on Wednesday and Mutombo is expected to join the team, though it's not known when he'll start playing again.
The 7-foot-2 Mutombo has played for six NBA teams -- Denver, Atlanta, Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York and Houston. He was traded from the Knicks to the Rockets on Sept. 8, 2004, for Adrian Griffin, Eric Piatkowski and Mike Wilks and averaged four points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in the 2004-05 season.
Mutombo's teams have made the playoffs in 13 of his 17 seasons in the league, including three of his previous four with the Rockets. He averaged 14 points and 14 rebounds to help the Sixers reach the NBA finals in 2001.
The Rockets have lost six straight playoff series and haven't advanced to the second round since 1997.
