Drew Gooden buyout?
Quote:

Well, i could see him going to a team where he can get more minutes and shots than here. But would be good to have another Damp insurance because with a Damp DNP where are pretty thin Haywood/Dirk/Marion/TT.

I'd hope that he comes back. I know this is a minuscule little thing, but his twitter thing still says he's in Dallas. And he hasn't mentioned how he liked his stay in Dallas or anything along those lines. Then again, he hasn't said much on twitter lately.
But from a basketball standpoint, I'd like to have him back. Having him and TT backing up Dirk I think would be just as nice as when we had KVH backing Dirk in 06.

Would LOVE for Gooden to come back. Although I'm not a huge personal fan of his, or his defense/turnovers/poor shot selection, he can be a solid co-backup to Dirk along with Marion/TT. He can also play spot minutes at the 5 when we're trying to go smaller/Damp's knee acts up/foul trouble etc. He's terrible as a starter at the 5 for this team, but valuable as a reserve playing limited minutes at the 4 and sometimes 5.
Bring him back

The only team on that list where he might get more minutes is the Bobcats. Not sure why he'd want to move again though, and learn a new playbook. Plus, with Damp's knee in question, he could still see some minutes.

I hope Gooden comes back, I really liked his hustle and effort. He's a good backup for Dirk. Hey, aren't Gooden and Stevenson good friends?

A couple good showings in a deep playoff run would likely do him more good in his upcoming free agency than heavier minutes on a dead end team.

With the uncertainty of both Damp's knee and the timeframe for TT to rejoin the team (does anyone know the nature of the personal reasons for his absence??) it seems like he'd consider coming back to Dallas. Hope so... Mavs desperately need another big body...someone that knows the playbook would be a blessing....

Beard growing contest: Gooden vs Stevenson 2007
Quote:
More importantly, uh, why the beard, DeShawn?
"I've got a bet with Drew Gooden," he said.
Yes, that's right, our very own DeShawn has made what we're calling an "undisclosed wager" with the formerly ducktailed Cavs forward Gooden, who began growing his own beard over the summer. Both guys live in Orlando, and they saw each other socially. Gooden had a beard, Stevenson made a comment, and so Gooden challenged him to grow facial hair of his own.
"So I said all right," Stevenson said. "He said 'who cuts it first,' I said let's do it," and the rest was history.

SI.com sources: Drew Gooden is negotiating a buyout with Wizards. If bought out, Gooden plans on returning to Dallas after 30 days.

Wow, if that is true, this trade will go down in the annals of NBA history as Dallas's big heist.

Anyone remembering how Shawn "forgot" to mention Gooden in his "wishing the best" twitter?

Guess that was allways the plan of the Mavs and Gooden and the team knew it but they learned from Stack and shut up.
Edit: Damn, i didnt see the drew here. So Marion saw he forgot it and changed it after the day of the trade.

i'm sure there was a "hush-hush" agreement upon the deal being completed.
It'd be great to have him back. I loved his tenacity on the boards.

No, it's always been there. I missed it the first several times I read it too. I even posted it in a thread here, contemplating what it meant that he didn't mention Drew. Then I read my post and saw it, so I removed it.

wtf, i never read it before...argh just because he wrote it in small letters, rofl.
Amazing how your eyes can screw with you sometimes.
Ah and nba.com/wizards has interviews of Josh/James/Ross but no Drew, so buyout should be safe.

Haywood and Butler for Howard is a STEAL if we can get Gooden back. I'm talking Gasol-type talent differential. No picks and WE get the cash considerations? Wow.
Sure Butler is an all-star, but probably not on par with Gasol. Still ...
We exchange
Howard, who was a total cancer
two salary filler players
the contract of Stevenson (who was a guy like Marquis a few years back).
We recieve
a near-all-star in Butler,
a top 10 starting center in Haywood,
and cash
breathless if that's how it finally works out. Its already an amazing trade as it is. I dont know if it puts us on par with the Lakers immediately but its highway robbery right now, and Gasoling the Wiz if we get Gooden back.

Maybe the chances of a Gooden return coming to fruition would be bigger after the Damp injury. Hmmm..

When does the 30 day boomerang clock kick in? 30 days from the day of the trade or when he hits free agency.

So looking at March 14-15 when he's eligible. He would have missed 15 games.

From ESPN insider Rich Bucher...
Quote:
Drew Gooden, who was dealt to the Wizards as part of the blockbuster All-Star weekend deal with the Mavericks, is adamant about not playing in Washington, said a source close to the situation. Gooden is looking for a buyout and should he get one, several teams would like to acquire him, with Milwaukee and Charlotte at the top of the list. The Wizards are Gooden's eighth team in eight seasons and he's simply tired of changing addresses. That's why, initially, he was committed to re-joining the Mavericks even if it meant not playing. But over the last 24 hours he's had a change of heart, the source says, and is more receptive to the idea of going to Milwaukee. A buyout with the Wizards, of course, still has to be worked out first.
|
Maybe Gooden isn't coming back....

Gooden: 'This is not my first rodeo getting traded'
by Michael Lee
Drew Gooden wore a plain practice jersey, featuring nothing more than the Wizards logo on the front and no number on the back. Asked what number he planned to wear for his debut against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Gooden said, "Well, If it's going to be a number, it's going to be 90."
If there is going to be a number? If Gooden doesn't sound as if he's ready to fully commit to being a Wizard, it's understandable. He's been down this path plenty of times in his career. He's on his eighth team in eight seasons and has been traded at the deadline in each of the past three seasons. In the last 24 months, he has gone from Cleveland to Chicago to Sacramento (for one game) to San Antonio to Dallas and, finally, to Washington.
"This is not my first rodeo getting traded," Gooden said after participating in the morning walkthrough on Wednesday. "We'll see what happens. I'm a Washington Wizard, but we'll see what happens."
It's well-known that Gooden would prefer to have a buyout rather than throw away the final 32 games in a wasteland. He got traded from a conference finals contender to a No. 1-pick-in-the-lottery contender, which is difficult for someone who signed a one-year deal with Dallas for good reason -- he thought he would have a chance to win and get consistent minutes. So, when he found out last weekend that he was leaving the Mavericks in a seven-player trade to the Wizards, he was rattled.
"I was caught by surprise," Gooden said. "Things started to slide downhill over there and you knew something was going to happen, but for what I provided for that team, I didn't think it would be me, but it's the business. "
Gooden has experienced the business side all too well, having started his career in Memphis and getting traded to Orlando during his rookie season (for current teammate Mike Miller). His latest deal involved him getting traded for his good friend, DeShawn Stevenson.
"It's a lot of six degrees of separation with Drew Gooden around the league," he said.
Gooden spoke with Coach Flip Saunders and President Ernie Grunfeld after arriving in town on Tuesday night. He expressed his apprehension about starting over again, but Saunders believes the conversation was productive. "We had a good talk about things. We'll see where things are," Saunders said. "It's always tough when you're traded. He's been a guy that's been traded a lot at the trading deadline so I think he had some concerns. I hope my talk to him, and Ernie talked to him, I hope he understands why we wanted him involved in the deal and that things will work out."
If Gooden and the Wizards settle on a buyout, he is expected to return to Dallas after the 30-day waiting period. But before agreeing to anything, the Wizards are looking into trading Gooden again before Thursday's deadline. Milwaukee and Charlotte are reportedly interested in acquiring the 6-foot-10 forward who has made the rounds over his career. Gooden said he has grown accustomed to changing addresses.
"It won't be tough for me. Transition to another team, I'm used to it," he said. "I've been to San Antonio, Cleveland, Sacramento for a game, Dallas, Chicago, D.C., the last 12 months it seems like. The transition won't be hard at all."
But Gooden, who sports a light goatee as opposed to the scraggly beard he started to grow in a competition with Stevenson, might have to get a new look if he is unable to negotiate a return to Dallas.
"I thought I was moving to the sun, in Dallas. Now I'm back in the cold," Gooden said, rubbing his chin. "I guess I'll have to grow one back out."

Would this be the same Ric Bucher who was reporting in advance of the Wizards trade that the Mavs were going to be shipping out Damp?
Gooden may very well be sore and/or want to go somewhere where there are more guaranteed minutes, but I have about as much faith in Bucher as I have in Bill Ingram over at poopsworld.

The other article indicates that the Wiz might trade Gooden to Milwaukee. So yeah, it wouldn't be a free agent's "change of heart" or anything.

This.
And Milwaukee has great chances not to see the post season and they have like 3-4 bigs battling for minutes. Not sure if Gooden would see there so much more time than in Dallas, specially when Damp is collecting DNP.

As I understand it Milwaukee would be buying him out as well and only using Gooden as salary ballast. In which case, its still 30 days from our original trade.
I dont understand why the Wiz would trade him unless they can pick up some talent. Its not like they can combine him with a non-expiring player to save more money. Maybe they are looking for a pick or two and are willing to take on some salary to start rebuilding. Gooden for Delfino, Elson and a draft pick or two? Who knows.

I'm wondering if it's a separate deal... claims to be a Western conference team....The ESPN trade machine says Denver has a 3.6M trade exception...

Yahoo says Gooden is going to the Clippers as part of the Jamison trade....I can't figure out how he can be packaged in this supposed three-team deal...

It has to be a separate deal legally, dont it? Jamison and Gooden being traded even in a three-way deal would be considered packaging unless I'm reading the CBA wrong.
