That Asik contract is still pretty bad, but it seems like a fair deal or both teams.

I think Mirotic locks NO into that last playoff spot so it seems okay.

NO makes the playoffs which may energize the fans. Mirotic can be an excellent third big if Boogie comes back or-- more likely, a good second big next to Davis if he doesn't, and they shed a decently bad contract in Asik and all it costs is a non-lottery first.

Chicago goes full tank and gets a 15-20 draft pick in an extra deep draft and drops Mirotic who was desperate to leave. Chicago will likely now have a
4-8 pick, 5-20 pick, and a late second rounder in this draft. Not bad for a rebuild.

Just wish we could have pulled this (or a similar) trade off. With an early and a late first, you get to draft a hyped star with the lottery pick, while still being able to take a flyer on high-risk potential stars. There are a lot of those guys who have the potential to be allstars that will go 10-25.

Great deal for Chicago. Pretty sure we called up and offered Wes for the same and they said "no thanks"

Well, their needs changed once Boogie got injured -- Wes actually made a lot of sense for them when Cousins was still healthy.

True. I just have my doubts that anybody wants Wes-- with our demands for a 1st round pick, coupled with his contract. I know he would be an upgrade for some teams. The Ringer article about the Blazers floated a Wes for Evan Turner and their first round pick idea. Problem with that being Turner has an extra year on his contract(if I'm remembering right)and their pick, which they probably wont want to give up, wont be that great. I don't see either team wanting that.

Wes' contract is fine. He's half the max and only 50% above the MLE and he expires in May if he doesn't pick up his option, otherwise he's an expiring next year.

Still, yeah, that's a high ask for a first rounder. Clearing cap is only really valuable if you are either looking to make a splash in free agency or are over the tax threshold. Either way, I don't think the reward of clearing space is worth a first rounder. Tax is just money and cap space is only valuable if people want to come there and smaller markets usually end up way overpaying or getting stood up.

About the only real match for Wes would be a team that would want a 3/D swingman AND a salary cap break. Otherwise he's worth a second rounder at most.

Also, they'd have to sign-and-trade Klay/Iggy for LeBron and re-home Livingston... Does Cleveland go for that? Gilbert seems like the type who would cockblock that deal and let LeBron walk for nothing rather than hand over several more championships to GSW.

We're in the midst of clickbait season, I wouldn't put too much stock into this article... (although I didn't put too much stock into the idea of KD going to GS either, so what do I know?)

Or...

@NickVanExit: Lebron: I’d listen if the Warriors created a Max Salary slot

Warriors: *Create Max Slot by cutting Draymond, Iguodala, etc.

Lebron: LOL PSYCH!

Highly unlikely this happens. I am gathering this is done to cause a rift in the Warriors lockerroom.....similar to how the KD rumors started to come out around the same time in 2016. The week of Bronco-Panther SuperBowl, rumors swirled about KD going to GSW, which led to scenarios to create this cap room.....trading Bogut(starting center) trading Iggy(6th man) to clear enough cap space for KD. What about Barnes....KD plays the same spot. So you get that disturbance, it's hard to ignore....coincidence GSW lost that finals? In order for this to happen, assuming Lebron wants max....GSW needs to move 70 million.....basically the entire roster if you plan on keeping KD and Steph. Being the emotional type, this will effect a guy like Draymond more then Klay Thompson. Imagine every game being asked about it.....

@wojespn: Source: Full protections on New Orleans' 2018 first-round pick to Chicago in Mirotic deal: 2018: top 5; 2019: top 8; 2020: top 10; 2021: top 9. If somehow it still isn't conveyed to Bulls in 2021, it becomes a second-round pick in each of 2022 and 2023.

@wojespn: Monroe will sign a one-year, $5M deal with Celtics, league sources tell ESPN. Pelicans could only offer $2.2M.

@wojespn: New Orleans offered Monroe the chance to be the starting center, but Monroe will join the Celtics with fewer assurances on playing time.

Lebron calls the Warriors thing "nonsense"

Doesnt matter though. His guys have already planted the seed he's seeking to go elsewhere so it puts the clamps on CLE to do something at the deadline.

Hopefully they mortgage their future to keep LeBron happy by giving away that first rounder to us.

@GeryWoelfel: On the day, Jabari Parker returns to action after being out a year with ACL tear, Bucks announce Malcolm Brogdon is expected to be out about seven weeks after suffering a left quadricep tendon injury against T-Wolves in Minneapolis.

"Parker conceives of himself as a star — a max player. Extension talks between Parker and Bucks fizzled in October, and Parker will enter restricted free agency this summer. The Bucks were prepared during those October talks to offer a three-year deal worth around $54 million, according to sources familiar with the discussions. The two sides discussed other permutations — shorter deals, incentive-laden four-year deals — and the talks never narrowed to a single on-paper offer. Still: Milwaukee’s upper limit in annual salary — about $18 million per season — was clear, sources say."

Max player? Really? Dude has never even played a full season. Who is pumping these thoughts into these kids minds?

Sounds like someone else we know. With his injury history, homeboy should’ve taken the 54 million and run. I mean what’s the best case scenario for him. Say he comes back and turns into prime Big Dog Robinson, he still can’t play a lick of defense and some team offers him...4 years and 80m? Whereas worst case he truly is made of glass and is injured again before the season even ends and gets offered a vet minimum while he rehabs for another year? Take the 54m, invest wisely in low risk stuff, be set for life. It’s not that hard.

Scott Kushner: The #Pelicans are hopeful Emeka Okafor will play tonight vs Minnesota.

Dude is still in the league? I remember when Mavs fans wanted this guy like 5 years ago, but he was injured. Good for him for trying to come back after a long layoff.

Pretty sure our trade window with Cleveland just closed -- they look like they've quit on the season, probably going to blow it up this summer.

Could be an option to take Shabazz and Crawford and dump Noel there. Then flip Shabazz and Crawford to some other team for two 2nd rounders or late 1st with absorbing some extra salary for this season through trade exception. Never going to happen though. Some playoff team could use Crawford, Shabazz looks like out of the league.

Some playoff team could use Crawford. Like Minnesota? They're 4th in the West, only a half game behind San Antonio for 3rd. I don't understand why the Wolves would move Crawford, especially for Noel when they already have Karl Anthony Towns.

Another player who signed with the Timberwolves as a free agent last summer, Jamal Crawford, has publicly expressed some surprise at the limited minutes he's played this season, especially based upon his conversations with the organization before committing to a two-year deal.
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/2...trade-deadline

KAT comment makes me wonder if you believe anyone in this league actually sees Noel as starting potential anymore. Did check Crawford's minutes, he is getting solid 6th man minutes, unsure what he has been complaining about, perhaps was promised more. Moving Crawford actually opens up the need for another guard rather than a big like Noel, so the Wolves would want a compensation there.

Hawks win and Lakers win. Not a bad Sunday.

@JoshuaBRobbins: Aaron Gordon will not play tonight in Miami because of his strained hip flexor, and he also has withdrawn from the All-Star dunk contest, the team announced.

@wojespn: Utah Jazz rookie Donovan Mitchell is expected to replace Orlando’s Aaron Gordon in the dunk contest on NBA All-Star weekend, league sources tell ESPN. Gordon withdrew with a hip injury.

Feel bad that Frank has had a sore knee and the Knicks are still playing him, but go figure that fricken' out of the league a month ago Burke is playing better.

Not sure if 18 minutes a game is solid 6th man minutes, but for a guy on the wrong side of 35, it might do him and the Wolves a world of good come May, just check in with Andre Iguodala, that guy is sleepwalking the regular season. 6th men, Jason Terry averaged 30 a night in his heyday......but he was probably more the exception, then the rule. Using that as a guide, 24-28 is about right for a 6th man.

On another note, Thibs has long been known to ride his starters heavy, the wing spots Crawford is backing, Wiggins is averaging 36 minutes and Butler 37, which leaves 23 minutes available....given that allotment, 18 is about right. Even at the PG, with Teague and Tyus Jones..doesn't leave any time there.

@wojespn: Brooklyn is trading Tyler Zeller to Milwaukee, league sources tell ESPN. The Nets will receive Milwaukee's Rashed Vaughn with the second-round pick.

@wojespn: Sources: Milwaukee's 2018 second-round pick to Nets is protected 31-to-47, or Milwaukee sends unprotected second in 2020 if the pick doesn't convey in 2018.

@wojespn: For Brooklyn, the key was turning Zeller into a second-round pick. Nets still trying to replenish stash of picks. Vaughn's contract simply made the deal work.
