"MIAMI -- The Miami Heat reportedly have agreed to terms with free agent forward LaPhonso Ellis, who may have turned a healthy season into a starting role.

Citing several league sources, the Miami Herald is reporting that Ellis has left the Minnesota Timberwolves to join Miami, although a Heat spokesman said nothing is official.

Last season, Ellis played a full season for just the second time in his nine-year career, averaging 9.4 points and 6.0 rebounds for Minnesota, which signed him to a one-year deal in October.

Ellis, 31, played all 82 games for the first time since his rookie year of 1992-93. Since then, he has missed over 200 games due to a variety of injuries.

One of the league's most personable players, Ellis became expendable when the Timberwolves signed Joe Smith, but he could challenge for the starting small forward job in Miami. He also can play power forward.

Since Denver drafted him fifth overall out of Notre Dame in 1992, Ellis has averaged 13.2 points and 7.1 rebounds in 503 regular-season games. He spent his first six seasons with the Nuggets before joining Atlanta."

This sucks...the list just keeps getting smaller and smaller.

Good thing is that he went to the east coast.

I agree with Rob - I didn't want him here. The dude was too injury-prone.

I wonder who the Mavs will target now...besides Hardaway--who seems likely to end up here, just a matter of how?

I think Moochie Norris is out, but Shandon Anderson and Ruben Patterson are still a possibility. But, do we need another 2/3 position player with Finley, Buckner and Griffin? I don't think so, unless Buckner is to go in a trade.

I agree that we really didn't need him. He plays the power forward/small forward. We already have Najera, and Harvey filling that gap.

Personally I'd like to see them get a monster power forward/center, but I just don't see any out there that catch my eye. **grumbles**

I think he mighthave been a good addition to our team, the only problem would have been his many injuries.
