He was able to get himself into the game, and he shot well. But that game’s over with, and we got to move on to the next one.” Kaman will get more action as he works his way into game shape. He could be in the starting lineup soon. The appearance of Kaman at center and Troy Murphy at power forward helped the Mavericks win the rebounding battle against Charlotte on Saturday — the first time this season they’ve done so. Murphy had five boards in eight minutes. “It was better, but we played bigger guys,” Carlisle said. “That helps when you do that. We’ll continue to stress it, watch it on film, do drills, yell and scream about it. It’s an area that can’t be ignored because of its all-around importance.” Meanwhile, Roddy Beaubois was wearing a brace on his left ankle, which he sprained in practice Friday. He will be a game-time decision Monday. Nobody has benefited from the return of Kaman and the arrival of Murphy more than Vince Carter. Carter no longer has to play power forward at 6-6, 225 pounds, although he’s glad he learned some of the requirements of the job. “None now,” Carter said when asked how much power forward he has to play. “I still tried to learn the four, just to know it, but actually, I’ll probably play a little two now.” That would be back to his normal situation, swinging between shooting guard and small forward. |
