I had to pause my draft and leave for a while so I was behind. Sorry for the delay!

Confused by the 2nd rb pick unless we get rid of one of the vets. On that topic tho... Fred Taylor's son looks way too good to be a 6th rounder. Picked right before us at 211.

Can't get rid of anyone. Smith won't be playing this year. Hell, Smith may never see the field again. Nerve damage in his knee could ruin his career before it started.

The doctor who performed Smith's surgery is the Cowboys head physician, so I'd put money on him playing in 2016 before I'd bet on him missing his entire career... The Cowboys know his situation better than anyone.

2016 NFL Draft: Dallas Cowboys Undrafted Free Agent Signings Tracker

Quote:
Some notable highlights among this group:

Notre Dame receiver Chris Brown (6-1, 195) caught 48 passes for 597 yards and four touchdowns last year, but was overshadowed by fellow WR Will Fuller.

Center Jack Brendel out of UCLA got a glowing review from NFL.com: "Brendel brings everything you'd want in a center: leadership (three-time co-captain), intelligence (first-team Academic All-Conference pick), reliability (four-year starter), and production (second-team All-Pac-12 pick in 2014 and 2015). Brendel isn’t as strong or athletic as some NFL teams prefer in the pivot, but others will value his other traits and willingness to get after his man in the run game enough to consider him a potential starter."

Norfolk State linebacker Deon King and led all NCAA football teams last year with 163 tackles.

Michigan State CB Arjen Colquhoun started 11 games for the Spartans last year, recording a career-high 45 tackles, 12 passes defended, 10 pass break-ups, two interceptions and two forced fumbles. The Canadian native was ranked No. 5 overall on the Canadian Football League's December Scouting list and was expected to be picked high in the 2016 CFL Draft.

Northwestern State receiver Ed Eagan (5-11, 192) is a premier kick returner. He finished as the school's all-time leader in career receptions (177), receiving yards (2,228), all-purpose yards (5,651). He was also the school's leader leader in kickoff returns (125), single-season kickoff return yards (1,045), single-season kickoff attempts (45), and kickoff returner yards (2,922). Eagan had initially committed to the Bills, but Jason Garrett, his coach at the Senior Bowl, convinced him to come to Dallas.

Vanderbilt DE Caleb Azubike didn't put up great numbers in Vanderbilt's 3-4 defense, but should look much better in a 4-3 scheme.

Toledo's Rolan Milligan played some JUCO ball in California before having the second-most tackles on the UAB roster in 2014 (54) with six pass breakups. OWhen that program shut down, he moved to Toledo, where the 5-foot-11 safety had 48 tackles as a senior, four for loss. He also had two interceptions, five passes defended, and forced three fumbles.

Wisconsin TE Austin Traylor will likely look to make his living as a blocking tight end and fullback. In Bob McGinn's annual scouts notes series, when talking about Traylor, one scout said: "best blocking tight end I saw all year." Traylor was essentially a sixth offensive lineman for the Badgers, who during his senior year became a viable receiving option, totaling 14 catches for 210 yards and four touchdowns in his lone year under Paul Chryst's pro-style offense, as he missed five games due to an arm injury.

Jacksonville State receiver Andy Jones recorded a 41.5-inch vertical jump, which would have tied him with Jalen Ramsey and Daniel Lasco for the best performance at the Combine.

Boston Stiverson, who played left guard at Kansas State, twice earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors, lining up at guard next to LT Cody Whitehair, who was picked in the second round by the Bears.

Akron DT Rodney Coe was one of the players brought to Dallas for an official visit. Like Henry Melton, Coe is a former running back who's transitioned to DT.

David Hedelin is from Sweden, and took a circuitous route to the NFL. As a JuCo transfer, he was in Purdue for only two years, but he was a 4-star recruit. He had to sit the first few games of his junior season due to an NCAA suspension for playing for a club team in his native Sweden. Then he missed the final two games of 2015 due to a concussion, so he played in less than 20 games for Purdue.

I have no prob with the smith pick. I said the 2nd RB pick, the 2nd running back. I like the guy when I saw his highlights though. I was simply referring to us now having a boat load of running backs and one prolly needs to go.

--Edit--
I'll add in that I have no problem with the Smith pick because if healthy I personally thought he was the best player in the draft. And both edge rushers available for that spot were taken as well. And I actually like how it turned out. I like what I've read about Tapper.

When healthy, yes, he was probably the best player in college football last year. He has a significant knee injury though. Smith was seen wearing an AFO brace which would indicate foot drop, a nerve ailment that prevents people from lifting the front part of their foot. I'm not saying he can't come back and play, but to use a 2nd round pick was a huge gamble for a team with glaring needs. I'm not a Cowboys fan, but I'll be rooting for him. Nerve damage can ruin a career though. Just ask Marcus Lattimore.

I still can't believe the Cowboys took Zeke. He should be a very good player for years to come, but between McFadden, Morris, and Dunbar they had a pretty solid rotation. I think Jalen Ramsey would have been a better choice for them. Him and Byron Jones would have been a nice young secondary moving forward.

Well Zeke would prolly help the defense more than Ramsey anyway. We could have Deion Sanders back there and with no pass rush he wouldn't be able to cover ppl with zero pass rush for 6-7-8 seconds. Plus he is just one guy covering 1 option. Even if Ramsey was shut down, which he's good but hardly shut down, what good is it if Carr, Claiborne, Scandrick, Jones etc fail in coverage? Last year we had like 3 rushing TD's. We also were nowhere near as good converting 3rd and short like we were with Murray. So they may be solid options but it's kind of a waste to have such a dominant line and not take advantage of it with a better than serviceable running game. So Zeke has the potential to keep drives moving and the defense off the field. My thoughts anyway.

@toddarcher: For the second straight year Cowboys linebacker Rolando McClain will be suspended to start the season. Sources tell Adam Schefter and myself that McClain will be suspended the first 10 games for violating the substance abuse policy. In March McClain was re-signed to a one-year deal worth up to $5 million but he could forfeit his $750,000 signing bonus.

@AdamSchefter: Also, Cowboys DE DeMarcus Lawrence's appeal was denied, he is suspended 4 games, per @toddarcher.

It is the first time since the NFLPA began compiling its Top 50 Player list in 2013 that a non-quarterback has topped the quarterly player sales rankings. Bryant, who placed at No. 5 on the season-ending 2015 list, was joined by three other Cowboys teammates – quarterback Tony Romo, rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott and tight end Jason Witten – in the top five. The only non-Cowboys player in the top five was Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who remained in the fourth spot. Russell Wilson, the quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks, placed sixth. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, the top-ranked player at the end of 2015, checked in at No. 7 and was joined by his teammate, tight end Rob Gronkowski in the No. 10 spot. New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. ranked No. 8, followed by rookie quarterback Carson Wentz of the Philadelphia Eagles at No. 9.

@HelmanDC: Zeke just took the field. Charles Haley yelling "There he is! Hall of Famer! How many yards you gained? ZERO" at him.

Charles Haley was always one of my favorites.

Yeah they really need a bit of a culture change or something. Now granted... to go back to Charles Haley, the "glory" days with him and Irvin and guys like Nate... if those guys played today and did what they did I'm not sure they would ever see the field. So it just shows how times have changed, but the Cowboys as an organization need to get on top of that change and make some adjustments.

I'm sure he's a nice guy and I don't want bad things for him, but I can't be the only one who was secretly(or not so secretly in my case) happy that we would now need a real backup after this.... "unfortunate".... accident.

Clausen is awful. I'm a Bears fan and had to suffer through watching him try and play last year. Dude just doesn't have it. He's no better than Kellen Moore. I really think Dallas should have tried to pick up Foles.

Joe DeCamillis, special teams coach? He recovered just fine -- ended up going to the Denver Broncos last season and won a Super Bowl with them.

Also, the Cowboys are no longer practicing at that facility and have just recently moved to a new, expensive location called The Star. This sucker ain't blowing down unless God himself does it.

Yeah, basically the Cowboys have a bigger HQ/training facility than the AAC, where the Mavs play their regular season games.

Well up until this game all I really was concerned about is how he would look coming from under center and not starting in the gun. He had 5-6 good completions coming from under center though yesterday. I don't know if he's the real deal or not but I'm way more optimistic now about life after Romo than I was 2 weeks ago.

That can't be right. Didn't Jason Witten pick him off last night in the end zone?

Meh. I'm ready for the Romo era to be over with anyway.
