Luka read my fat ass comment and the part about plyometrics. He went off, AND got a dunk.

And yet they’ve been number 1 in the league in defense over the last 5 games, or at least leading up to the Memphis game.

That's a terrible thing to hold your hat on
Look at who they have played in that stretch
Then look at what Ja Morant did to us....
But hey if you believe beating down the likes of Cleveland twice without KP is proof they are a better defensive team by all means your entitled to your beliefs
I saw what this team did vs Sacramento without KP and the defense was still horrendous so it's not just him.

Yeah, I’ll hang my hat on facts. Don’t forget the other 2 teams were Brooklyn and Miami who are both playoff teams. They might be bad individual defenders, but it doesn’t matter as much if you play good team defense.

We've always struggled against quick guards. The PnR is really effective so Luka can't always hide by defending the opposing SF or low threat offensive guard. KP is bad on defense, especially the PnR. We tried to sure that glaring issue up by getting JRich but it wasn't good enough. Until we sort this out, we will continue to struggle. Either Luka has to get better, Kp has to get better or we need a center who can manage the PnR defensively and rebound.
When our 3's are falling, or we have elite ball movement like last night we are as good as anyone in the league. We just can't count on that.

Seems like we've responded to the PnR and rebounding woes by stacking the paint and building a wall, which is somewhat effective against bad teams, but too often good teams see us with four in the paint and then pass it out for a three or a drive on the weak side. That means there is a guy VERY open unless we have a defender that can make up MASSIVE ground and get to them.
Only guy on our team who is fast enough to get out on a shooter in that situation is Green. When he was getting time, we saw our defense clicking and that strategy worked. When we substituted Kleber/DFS for that guy like the last two games, it was just too easy for teams to pick it apart.
I think there's at least some reason to believe that Green can be that secret ingredient to top defense. Then again, he basically got a DNP in the last two games, so who knows?

Yup. And it's puzzling because you never know when the rook gets a random hook. It's for sure not because he has played bad or lacked hustle.
I watch the games delayed on DVR because I like to rewind and watch closely certain habitual problems and one of them that always happens is that we sag to far to the middle to help the pnr and the kick out for 3 ends up killing us. At the same time KP doesn't have great spatial awareness. He is long enough to drop off the pick and defend the roll if he calculates his spacing and recovery time well. Being physically 100% will help that but lots of film study and practice at it is what he needs.

Miami wasn't at full strength either that game
Look at what Memphis did to Dallas with a quick pg
But hey if you consider them a good defensive team I guess we'll see in the playoffs

The Mavericks have to find a higher level of defense
The Mavericks said they were going to focus on playing better defense this season. That was determined to be a lie. It’s true, they’re better than they were last year, but that speaks more to their putrid defense last year than improvement this season. And there are some defensive metrics that point to them being average at stopping teams from scoring. But I don’t know how you could watch this game and believe the Mavericks are good on defense. A Raptors squad fielding almost exclusively end of the bench players got to the rim at will all night. As mentioned above, Porzingis has to be more active while defending the paint, but the Mavericks’ perimeter players also have to be better.

"They said they would be better, but that's a lie, but they are better, but that's not because they are better, but instead because they were worse last year."

IMO the bottom line is they were bad last year and they are bad again this year.
They went into the offseason hoping to improve the defense only to basically remain the same.
Hell all the guys they brought in that weren't drafted are either gone or now on the bench.
So there was no progress made to the roster if you think about it defensively.
Not to mention you just allowed 110 points to a G-League starting lineup your last game where two guys who are end of the bench players lit you up for 25+
Hopefully, next year they will finally start to get some real defenders on this roster because they've gone almost 10 years (2011) which is absurd without fielding a competent defensive team.

If you notice, I didn't make a single claim whatsoever about their defense. I only pointed out the ridiculous nonsense of contradictions in the article you quoted (wrote?).
But I see that you don't agree with your quote - since it says they improved ("they’re better than they were last year") but you say they didn't. So I'm confused about why you quoted it.
