Hornets renounced him this morning, so SnT impossible now.

Hornets renounced Kaman earlier, so they can't do a SNT.

Dirk should get some open looks with the opposite C not leaving his man.

No. But using non-Bird rights they can sign him for a 20% raise next year.

So do the Mavs have a chance at going after Sessions or Mayo?

I'd say Sessions is out now, unless the money REALLY dries up.

This is great. Always liked Kaman as a center next to Dirk. Man, I luv the MBT, they're the best FO in all sports.

Well if they don't sign Sessions, then they must really think that one of the 3: Roddy/DoJo/J-Flight (love that nick) will be able to man the point next year.

So does the FO try to stay under the cap and just sign Delonte or someone of his ilk?

It is possible, if the rest of the roster is vet min. guys, that Delonte or another guard gets
the leftover cap space and we use the mini-MLE on another swingman for depth.

are the TE's then preserved if they stay under the cap?

Meh. I think it's more like Kaman leveraged Dirk to get the Mavs to sign him.

8M for Kaman when Camby is going 4M per is not a deal. Granted Camby got 3 years (12M total) but 8M is a lot for an often-injured center. He's played an average of 60% possible games over the last 5 years (that's 50 games over a 82 game season).

I still applaud it because it's good for Dirk and it's the first tangible act of the offseason but it's not exactly a "we don't overpay for good players" signing.

1 year for Kaman doesn't kill your flexibility next summer the same way that 3 years for Camby does.

Cuban seems to care less about the per-year amount than he does the length of a contract.

You know Brand fits right into this front court. Backup minutes for Dirk and Kaman. Go for broke with big one year contracts IMO. Any reason we can't go into the luxury tax for one year?

There is zero chance we pay the LT this season. Have to avoid the repeater tax.

That doesn't make much sense, to be honest with you. Dirk's not a decision maker in this process (even if he has some early degree of input).

I agree mostly with the rest. The injury thing is a huge concern for me at $8M. I don't buy the comparison to Camby, though. Kaman was an all-star 2 years ago. Camby is 38 and wasn't an all-star even in his prime.

8Mil per year is a perfectly reasonable salary for a rotation caliber center. His injury history is concerning, but if he didn't have an injury history someone would be signing him for 3-4 years at that price, or close to it.

Camby is terrible. He was always overrated as a defender, but now he's truly a shadow of his old self. Offensively a total non-factor, the only thing he does better at this point, is rebounding, but it's not like Kaman is a terrible rebounder. I'm not even sure Camby is a better shotblocker at this point in time. I'm not saying Kaman is a great or anything like that, more like i don't really understand the fascination with Camby.

He's only a "rotation caliber center" if he can actually play. I hear you about the offers being higher if he was healthy, but that's not the reality of it. I think 8M is a bit high for a guy who has missed 40%+ of games almost every year, regardless of his talent (unless he's a legitimate star, I guess).

I'm not disappointed in the deal, though. It's a coup considering our options at this point. It makes us better. I'm just not blown away, or anything.

I predict that this means they will not bid on Brand, or maybe they'll bid around the minimum.

Even if you'd mildly prefer Brand, keep in mind that Kaman can be traded at the deadline, and Brand cannot. That's a distinction worth noting.

You know, even if he only plays 60% of the games, he's gonna actually catch the ball and do something with it 100% of the time more than Haywood

And I was interested in Camby until I realized he's 38. And didn't he have some injury issues? Chandler had injury issues as well before he came here.

looks pretty good. Now all we need is a backcourt.

Welp, now disregard this. I'd say we're obviously bidding on Brand if we're amnestying Haywood.

And I remember the last center we brought in with injury concerns. Seemed to turn out OK.

As a stop gap, he is perfectly acceptable. If healthy and performing, he is an attractive high dollar trade asset.

Perfect signing.

*Now what else do you have planned? I'm assuming they didn't amnesty Wood for no reason.

Why stop gap ?

When healthy and motivated Kaman could be our best center EVER. Guy is that good. And people forget how young he is. His best years are now.

I agree to a point. But the MBT have been clear about wanting to acquire Star Players. I wonder if Kaman's as a long term cornerstone would allow them to afford a top level star player?

Now that I take a closer look...he is only a career 48% shooting. Not all that great for a C.

On a positive note, Kaman is really pumped to be in Dallas...he keeps tweeting.
