Booom OJ
Booom Collison
Booom Kaman
Booom Vintage Vince
Offense was great, defense not so much.
Marion was terrible at the 1st half, Brands jumper is just off...

OJ and DC are such an exciting backcourt, DC looks like he learned well from Chris Paul.

Some numbers that stick out:
- Darren Collison got a double-double with 18 points (8-12 shooting) and 10 assists (with only 2 turnovers).
- OJ Mayo nailed 7-10 three-pointers for 21 of his game-high 30 points, grabbed 6 boards and dished 3 assists... Baller. Feels like we found the Jason Terry replacement we were looking for.
- Vince Carter scored 18 points on 7-12 shooting (4-8 from beyond the arc) in just 22 minutes. That kind of efficiency off the bench can go a long way this season.
- Chris Kaman scored 16 points on 8-9 shooting, grabbed 4 boards and got 2 assists in 20 minutes... Not a bad debut at all.
- Troy Murphy had 5 defensive rebounds in 9 minutes... Or another way to look at it is that he prevented the Mavs from giving up 5 offensive boards in those 9 minutes (which was just enough for us to beat Charlotte on the boards 43-38).
- Jared Cunningham popped his NBA scoring cherry by hitting 2-2 three-pointers in garbage time... If that second three was an indication of anything, it's that a little confidence can go a long way.
Mavs shot 16-25 on threes, 12-15 on free throws.

At this point i can say collinson is 2x better than today's Kidd, tho i need to see him play with Dirk.
OJ played smart, he needs to continue that.
It was vinsanity of old tonight.
Trix was okay, but had 3 dumb turnovers in a row.
Crowder was good.
Kaman was so efficient.
Murphy can rebound,i like him.

I really like how unselfish our (contract year) guys play. No shot hunting and iso "hero mode" basketball. Especially Mayo is a nice surprise in that regard.

I can't remember the last time the Mavs won by 20+ points...

Early in the season, but DC sure is looking like the answer for this team at PG long-term. Major win there if that holds up.
Nice to see OJ's scoring game come alive. His success or failure in Dallas is ultimately going to come down to whether he can play well with Dirk, but until Dirk makes it back, performances like tonight's are exactly what the team needs from him.
God damn I love getting to root for Vince as a Mav. I got the feeling he was overlooked almost to the point of being completely forgotten over the offseason by a lot of observers, but if he can stay clear of the fatigue that seemed to overtake him at times in that overly-compressed lockout schedule of last year he's still a special talent who can be a major plus for the team, and he showed that tonight. That block was sick.

Darren Collison and O.J. Mayo played out of their minds tonight. Everyone was saying on here that O.J. needed to get going, and he did that and more tonight.
Kaman was awesome down low for us too. Murphy looked tentative on offense, but like someone said, he rebounded for us.
Marion has been up and down these first 3 games so far.
Jae Crowder has been rock solid as a rookie.
Great win tonight!

I also just want to say, every time I looked up in the 2nd half, Dojo was making a terrible play. In three consecutive possessions, he turned the ball over on a lazy pass, got lost defensively, and bricked a 15-footer. Cut this loser already.

If Collison keeps up this level of play, it completely changes the outlook of this team moving forward. Mayo had a really nice game last night, but Collison is the one creating all of the offense. And having someone create offense alongside Dirk is what we've needed for so long.

Its the Bobcats, in which their 2nd unit maybe better than their 1st.
Best part of the game was Dirk heckling Haywood. You could hear him yelling, "travel, travel" before Haywood nailed a turn around jumper.

from Michael Dugat at dallasbasketball.com
""According to Basketball Reference, since the 1985-86 season, the Mavs have only hit at least 61 percent of their field goals and 64 percent of their threes one other time. That came in 1986 against the Clippers in a 131-113 victory.
Lower that to 60 percent in both categories, and you still find only three instances of this prior to Saturday night ... all wins with margins no smaller than 18 points.""
wow!

I'm not sure if DC is better than Dwill, but when you add Brand, Kaman and Mayo to the equation the Mavs definitely benefited from DWill's decision. Also dodged a bullet with Nash and Kidd going elsewhere. It was a great offseason that wouldn't of been nearly as good if they got their first choices.
And Crowder is so good we're already taking him for granted. It's amazing that a 2nd round rookie gets 10 points on 4-5 shooting and nobody even mentions it.
Offensively, it's amazing how much of an impact having a penetrating PG and a center that score is going to make. We had neither of these things last year. This will make things much easier for Dirk once he gets back.

Agreed.
ps: Crowder reminds me of Josh Howard a little bit. Let's hope he can grow an inch...

If the Mavs somehow find 3 nice pieces to go forward with, this will be a very successful season. Mayo, Crowder, and Collison could turn in to that... It's obviously a wait and see thing..but, they're off to nice starts. Plus, the other two rookies don't look totally incompetent. And perhaps Kaman or Brand would be interested in sticking around. And then there's Wright... if he can be a 10 and 7 guy for this team, that would be huge.

WAYYY way early, but we may have some sweet pieces to satisfy some of the most essential roles around Dirk.
1) A post-up offensive player to keep the weak side defender from collapsing on Dirk (Kaman, Brand, Wright)
2) Guards that can finish at the rim, create offense and hit the three (Mayo and Collison)
3) Defensive scrappers that can guard multiple positions (Marion, Crowder)
4) A 6th man that can score and keep the offense flowing (Carter)

Watched at a sports bar while traveling. Just a few things stuck out when I was looking over - (1) Kaman looked like a beast out there, (2) Crowder actually successfully drove with the ball, which is a huge step up for him, (3) other than a couple of heat-check type shots, I thought most of the threes were actually smart shots, instead of the poor percentage type we got against Utah in the second half, and (4) man, the Bobcats suck.

Also, Byrons Mullens just doesn't care. He shot the ball 18 times last night. If his shot didn't start falling in garbage time when no one was playing defense, the guy might have shot less than 30 percent too...

I don't think the Bobcats attacking zone can be effective in the NBA, I understand running it when the team is going to be a terrible anyways but I would be worried if this is also the longterm plan for Dunlap and the Bobcats.

Wright is not a foundation piece but he is a really good bench player for any team, his super efficiency scoring is very valuable.

Wright is a poor rebounder, but he definitely is a nice and efficient weapon on offense. Just a freak athlete.

Wright appears to better on the boards this year. And the per 36 or 48 may say differently.... holding ones position and battling doesnt show up in that stat.....

Hard to give him too much credit when the team's been kicked around on the glass like it has been, though. Still, if he keeps blocking shots and playing with anything like the kind of efficiency that he has been playing with on the offensive end, I'll take it. It's so important for this team that some of these young guys, including the rookies but in particular the to-be free agents that Dallas can go over the cap to re-sign next summer like DC (especially DC given his position), Booby and Wright, play well enough this season that they'll look like legitimate long-term assets to other team's free agents.

If you find a 20-25 mpg big man, that's pretty dang important... especially if you might be able to keep one of the big guys that were added to the roster this year.

Absolutely..not rebounding is one of the big reasons why I list him as a 'hopeful' 20-25 minute per game guy going forward next year.

Another random tidbit (it may have been mentioned already):
This was the Mavs biggest MoV since 99-60 against the Kings last year (January 2012).
