Agree! We got a guy 37th that is likely going to be a better talent than Josh Green was at 18 for the love of god.

Even his lowest ceiling is a streaky scorer. He is one of the most talented players in the draft. Funny, former Underdog of d-m.com and I were talking about Hardy on twitter and why the Mavs would even bother working him out since there was no way he would fall to 26.

Welp...

And this is a get at 26 let alone 37.

My mind finally processed who Hardy plays like: Jordan Clarkson.

Not to mention, the Mavs apparently had him like 17th or something on their board, so that means they probably would have taken Hardy at #26 if they hadn't done the Wood trade. So effectively that means they got Wood for almost literally nothing- just some salary filler. That is some true wizardry by Nico.

I'm really excited about this kid. The talent is clearly there. In high school he was an absolute scoring machine. And his improvement over his short run in the G-league is very encouraging.

I expect he's going to be long term project and probably won't contribute much of anything next season. But down the road he could be something really special. This is what great teams do- find diamonds in the rough. This is how the Spurs were able to surround Duncan with great supporting casts for his entire career, and how the Warriors dynasty all of a sudden seems as strong as it ever was, even after losing Durant. You find value with late round picks or undrafted free agents. That's the piece the Mavs were always missing under Donnie and Carlisle. The ability (or willingness) to find young players with potential that other teams overlooked, and then develop them into real NBA players. If the Mavs had been able to do that over the last 20 years, Dirk probably would've had more than one ring.
