I usually don't say games this early in the season are big games.
But this is a big game for Dallas simply because there are only 72 games this year and you don't know if any of those games will get cancelled do to covid later.
It's also a big game because if they lose they drop to 1-4 on the season and I'm willing to bet they didn't anticipate that and neither did we as fans.
The west is stacked and I'm not sure they can afford to get behind the 8 ball this early and try to play catchup down the road.

Butler will play again today and with our Defense either Robinson or Herro will likely break the 3Pt Record.
Not seeing much of a chance today.

Is this concerning to you guys especially since they preached getting tougher this entire off season and they said in a game earlier this year that they got physically beat
Mavs' Maxi Kleber on the effort:
"They were simply more physical. ... It was just about energy and effort today."

"Concerning" is not the word that comes to mind with these starting lineups and rotations, but rather "expected."

As long as it isn't a heavy dose I can live with it.
Its the starter/superstar minutes that drive me nuts.

DP is actually due for a solid game, and that's not good news for the Mavs longer-term if he plays well.
Just about any player on an NBA roster has the talent to have a good game and put up solid numbers. DP is no different. However, it's the consistent, solid performers night in and night out who contribute that are the key to winning basketball. DP isn't one of those guys imo, but RC is so invested in him that a solid night by DP will provide RC with enough justification to continue starting him and playing him solid minutes. We can't afford that. If DP has a decent game every 4 or 5, then we may find ourselves 20+ games deep into the season with DP still starting because he had 4 or 5 decent games. That's a recipe for disaster and my biggest concern right now for the team tbh. We're going to get at least another 10 solid games of DP when KP returns. 30+ games w DP playing heavy minutes is enough to torpedo the season imo.

Hopefully Miami throws out a little bit of that zone defense to remind Rick you can still play zone on occasions when your team can't defend man to man

Good read here from JJB about Luka
“Well, he’s still a kid,” Barea said. “He’s still chilling, I think he’s still chilling, he’s still growing. He still hasn’t, in a good way, he still hasn’t taken the next step, if you know what I mean. When he starts really training and really working and really getting ready for the NBA, he’s gonna be a monster.
Since everyone wants to compare Doncic to Dirk Nowitzki, let’s do it here, really quick. Dirk famously was rough his rookie season, so bad that he’s talked publicly about how he thought about leaving the NBA after his rookie season and going back to playing in Europe. Dirk got his ass kicked his rookie season and that seemed to steel his resolve to get better. He had no choice. He had to work hard on his body as well as his game. The results spoke for themselves.

Well Dirk had legit bigs in his way and the game was rougher. Luka doesn't have as much of an uphill battle as Dirk did. He needs the discipline obviously but he's learning, and you have to believe that.

Do you not think Luka would have thrived in 1998? I think he would have had a far better rookie season than Dirk. Dirk was just plain raw. He was not ready for the NBA. Luka on the other hand was probably the most battle-tested, experienced rookie ever. The game was rougher, sure, but whatever Luka's flaws are, toughness isn't one of them. 19 year old Luka is indisputably better than 19 year old Dirk.

Yea. Thats not what im talking about. Dirk was good but he was a PF and a whole new type at that. Going up against Karl Malone and many other big bruisers he got battered. The game is not the same as back then and neither is Dirk and Lukas size. Luka would not be able to come near hanging with any PF or Centers from then either. He would possibly be one of the best to ever play by now if he came into the league in 98 but it wouldn't be as a "big". Which is why Dirks path is much harder. He was outsized physically and Luka has the upperhand in that area. Dirk had to transform himself AND the game.

Its a good thing. Mavs are a team who loves advanced stats for everything. They gave Dwight his money because of the advanced stats with him (also the defensive stats with him were always better than the eye test, something Bobby Karalla always pointed out).
This years his advanced stats are terrible all over the court. If it stays this way until KP is back then the Mavs have their answer regarding the future.

You know, DFS isn't really a very good defender anymore. I've noticed he has progressively gotten worse on that end of the ball. He is a decent help man but his man d is meh.
Glad the Mavs have started well otherwise.

He's never had good lateral defense, as it has always been too easy for guys to drive around him. Just not enough lateral quickness. I agree he is pretty good for help and around the rim. He's good vertically.

Bad pass, Luka. No chance of connecting with WCS on that one.

I thought he did very well on Chris Paul and Paul George in those two matchups.
He was on ball a lot vs them.

I'm just happy we got a Off Board LOL
But the rebounding this game is much better than the previous outings.

Solid jump by Trill. Don’t think that was a foul
