Akognon, though like Sarge his contract isn't guaranteed. And I think there's still some lingering question as to whether the Mavs might have to release Sarge to complete their other deals, though I'm sure that's something they'd rather not do.

I fully expect akognon to be waived, there is no room for him.

Just pointing out that he's under contract. Don't disagree, though; about him likely being left off the final roster, or about Carmichael being worth at least a camp invite.

Mavs forced to waive Bernard James
By Marc Stein and Bryan Gutierrez | ESPN.com
http://espn.go.com/dallas/nba/story/...-bernard-james
The Dallas Mavericks were forced to waive second-year center Bernard James on Friday, a move they were hoping to avoid, according to sources with knowledge of the move.
Earlier in the week, Dallas convinced James to move the July 15 guarantee date in his contract to a later date in the summer, which team officials hoped would buy them the extra time needed to sort out the roster and still have room for his 2013-14 salary of $788,872. The Mavericks, though, reluctantly waived James on Friday when they needed to remove his salary-cap hold from their payroll to formally complete the signing of guard Monta Ellis.
The Mavericks hope to re-sign James later this offseason after he clears waivers. But there is a strong chance James will be claimed by another team, given his solid rookie season as an athletic and developing big man who also carries such a reasonable cap number.
James will stay on waivers for 48 hours, during which time other teams may claim him and assume his contract. If no team has claimed him before the end of the waiver period, James' contract would be terminated and he would become a free agent.
The 6-foot-10 center was the 33rd overall pick out of Florida State and a former staff sergeant in the Air Force with three tours of duty overseas. James, 28, started 11 games for the Mavericks last season and averaged 2.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.8 blocks. His per-36 production as a rookie -- 10.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.0 blocks per game -- suggests his game has potential.
Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said he had hoped James would "dominate" in the Las Vegas Summer League. But James ended up playing just one game there, collecting two points, nine rebounds and three blocks in the team's opener before being waived.

I hope so - if you're the Mavs, you exaggerate that injury as much as possible with the hope that it scares away other teams.

I think waiving Bernard James pretty much guarantees Monta Ellis' contract will be $27M over 3 years. I was hoping it would be closer to $25M, but that the release of Bernard James makes that unlikely.

Are Donnie and Cuban auditioning for the new Dumb and Dumber movie?
That's 2 draft picks from last year they wasted including Cunningham. This has to be a record for even the mavs for wasting draft picks.

I'm too confused to wonder what's going on. Either they will establish a trade or make room for Oden.

I hope that's just bs smoke his agent is saying, though I doubt it. I hate watching barbosa play. The Celtics seemed to deflate anytime he was on the court and the ball was in his hands. Please no.

Its almost like Don Nelson is back in town. But I even think he'd have a 6'9 point forward in the mix somewhere lol. All of these guards just don't make sense.

I didn't know he is injured, not to mention that injury being a torn ACL, and MCL... In that case, i change my mind, we really shouldn't go after him.

48 hours from when they were waived, if I understand things correctly.

I don't see any way Akognon gets claimed. And as was mentioned, Sarge somehow cleared waivers and will be re-signed (per Stein).

Wouldn't put much stock into that Barbosa thing. Sounds like a classic agent leak.

DALLAS MAVERICKS
Key moves: Signed Jose Calderon (four years, $29 million), Monta Ellis (three years, $30 million)
Mark Cuban thinks they're better off without Dwight Howard. And if you believe that, then I'd like to tell you more about this great timeshare I have in the Oklahoma panhandle.
The Mavs dismantled their championship team from 2011 in order to make a couple of runs at prime free agents. In theory, it made a lot of sense. The team's window wasn't going to stay open long, so Cuban and company were trying to make the sensible decision to restock and make a new window by signing a new centerpiece to eventually take the torch from Dirk Nowitzki. It was supposed to be Deron Williams last summer, Dwight Howard and/or Chris Paul this summer. Swing and a miss.
So the Mavs were left once again to try and scramble pieces together to field a team worthy of Dirk. Incoming are Calderon, a solid point guard and Ellis, the most volume-y of all the volume scorers. The Mavs might be good enough to compete for a playoff spot. But they aren't going to be doing anything in the postseason, which for them, is supposed to be the goal.
Grade: D-
|
Grade is a bit harsh, but I agree that a first round exit is the probable outcome.
