Doc Rivers is off the market
Doc Rivers, fired by the Magic last November after a 1-10 start to the just-completed regular season, will be hired as the next head coach of the Boston Celtics. A news conference is expected to take place Thursday.
Rivers would replace John Carroll, who was told by Celtics management Monday that he would not be promoted from interim coach and given a permanent job. Rivers coached Orlando for four full seasons and made the playoffs three times, but advanced to the second round only once. He was named the league's coach of the year in 2000 after the Magic finished 41-41 in his first season. Carroll replaced Celtics coach Jim O'Brien after O'Brien resigned in January because of differences with Danny Ainge, Boston's director of basketball operations. Rivers joined ABC Sports as an analyst on its top NBA announcing team in the days after his firing by Orlando.

What do you guys/gals think about B. Scott to the Mavs. His attitude and experience would be a good fit with the Mavs IMO. He would definate instill a defensive mindset plus he's a fan of open court offensive b-ball, he's played and coached in that type of system.

RE: Doc Rivers is off the market
While I'll agree with you about B. Scott's attitude and experience, it was widely reported that his X's &O's sucked.
He lost his team when his top assistant was hired by the Wizards. Besides it is rumored that as a Laker Ex that he would go there after Phil is asked to leave.

No to B.Scott, aka Coach BS.
Did not get good reviews in NJ from his players, from the press or from fans for in-game decisions, strategy, or player management--Eddie Jordan was generally credited as the brains behind the Nets' success. Given that Scott is gone from Jersey, evidently Rod Thorn thought so too.
Oddly, despite his two appearances in the NBA Championship Finals, BScott is something of an unknown. Not at all sure that he would have what it takes to take on a job like the Mavericks successfully.
He needs seasoning elsewhere, preferrably as an assitant, so that he can hone his strategic/tactical ability. But he is probably too arrogant to accept anything other than a head-coaching job.

FYI: he was an assistant with the Kings. It's also been rumored that he learned his X's and O's there, but the Jordan rumor is more prevalent. Not sure why B. Scott gets a bad rap for not being a good X's and O's coach, neither is Phil Jackson or Larry Bird. Some people would jump all over the race bandwagon in that regard like they did with Isiah's firing in Indy.

^^^I thought about that too. I guess with the way things ended in Orlando, Doc didn't have the luxury of picking his spots...he had to take any job he could get and try to make the best of it.

RE:Doc Rivers is off the market
byron scott is probably going to the lakers..in which case, cuban needs to make a hard run at phil jackson and let phil decide who he wants to keep and who needs to go
not including riley because it seems he's content in miami to watch the young team grow

If we can't have Nelson, keep it in the Nelson family. If Donn Nelson wants it, give it to him.

Heard him with Bob and Dan yesterday...he practically said that he'd take the job if it was offered. Said he was a company man all the way and he loves Dallas.
