Default Scratching my head at this quote

Quote:
After this game, Nelson doesn't know what to think regarding his team. He thought the Mavs were beginning to find their stride. In a span of five days, the Hawks (5-20) engineered a 35-point swing against the Mavs.

"It goes to show you I can't predict what is going to happen with this team," Nelson said.
This doesn't sound like Nellie knows what's going on. If you read between the lines, this says that you can expect the Mavs to be inconsistent this year. Why? Don't know. Why is he giving them a reason to be inconsistent? I think a coach should NOT tolerate games like last night. You can't just say that you can't predict what will happen. The coach has to have control the team and he expects games like that never ever to happen. Its just part of the loser mentality.

We're still gellin'......that's what he means. A long win streak is due sooner or later.

Loser Mentality - genious observation.

Look, for what I'm about to write, I REALLY REALLY hope Nellie proves me wrong. This year. Or next. But I won't hold my breath.

22+ years in the league. Championships: 0.

Maybe there's a good reason for this? Like, he really only knows how to coach from an underdog position?

He wouldn't be the first coach to be able to pull the pieces together, only to lack the ability to go that final extra step.

I supported him until this year. Now, after seeing Damp ride the pine too much, after seeing him try to be "balanced" at the expense of Dirk leading the team (yet again: Dirk should have had 40 against NY), I have given up. We'll only go so far with him, IMO.

Dirk getting to 30+ against NY would have kept him in the scoring race, and helped him mentally, once again, IMO.

But like I said, I hope he proves me wrong.

Ya'll really look too deep into what Nellie says to the media. The only way you will get a straight answer from him is if you took him to the side with no pen or pad.

This isn't a defense of what Nellie has done or hasn't done this season but the lack of championships on his resume shouldn't be the reason for firing him. You would defintely have to find a better reason that "he's never won a championship". You shouldn't even hire him or keep him on board as the case may be if that's your reason for canning him. To make it the sole barometer for measuring a coach is discounting the numerous factors that go into winning a championship - talk about the halo and horn effect.

Also, would all 22 those of teams could have won if not for Nellie? Think not.

How many did Larry Brown win before last year? All it takes is one. Besides, if you don't count Rudy T, Philly J and Pop - how many coaches have won a championship in the last dozen and plus NBA seasons? It should not be a knock on Nellie that there have been some dominating dynasties the last generation or so. The list of championship-winning coaches is scarce.

That said, Nellie needs to stick to one starting point guard, re-incorporate motion and passing into his offense and play the bigs regularly and consistently.
