Dirk has looked a little gimpy to me to be honest. Not a big deal but kaman hasn't seen him since the knee injury.. Probably figures he's still working through it.
Boy watching parker carve up boston, no one should be too embarressed to be lit up by him.

There is a 7.2 PPG margin between Dirk and Jason Terry. That is the second highest point differential behind Dwight to JRich. However, D12 has SIX teammates scoring at least 10 PPG, while Dirk has only FOUR (one of whom is the injured Butler).

nba.com explained why Dirk moved from 4 to 5 in the MVP Race:
Quote:
Nowitzki had his second-biggest scoring month (24.6) of the five so far, but also his second-lowest shooting percentage (51.6). He averaged 7.9 rebounds and, though a terror at the foul line, hit 35.3 percent of his 3-pointers in March.

Wow... Kobe for the year shoots 45% and is ahead of him!

Better late than never, courtesy of the Elias Sports Bureau:
Dirk Nowitzki eclipsed 1,500 points this season in the fourth quarter of the game against the L.A. Clippers on March 30. He has now gone 11 consecutive seasons with at least 1,500 points, which is tied with Kobe Bryant for the longest active streak in the NBA. Before 2010-11, no player had gone 11-plus consecutive seasons with at least 1,500 points since Karl Malone did it 12 years in a row from 1986-87 to 1997-98.

From Bill Simmon's ranking of playoff contenders:
Quote:
If players were forced to argue their own MVP cases, here's what I would write for Dirk to say (add your own German hip-hop accent):
"Um, have you ever watched us? We were playing three-on-five offensively in crunch-time when Caron Butler was healthy. In every close game, we run every play for me. No, really. Watch us some time. According to 82games.com, I'm the league's best clutch scorer: in crunch-time, I make 49.5 percent of my field goals, get to the line more than anyone else and make 89 percent of my free throws. I have chunks of Kobe's crunch-time prowess in my stool. And that's playing with Tyson Chandler and Shawn Marion (who couldn't create shots for themselves if they were posting up Yi Jianlian's old chair from the 2007 draft) and Jason Kidd, who's only been decomposing since the All-Star Break. When I got injured in December, we went 2-8 while I was out, then 1-2 as I eased my way back into shape. We're 50-15 when I'm healthy even though Jason Terry is my second-best teammate -- he'd be the fifth-best Bull, fifth-best Celtic, sixth-best Laker and the fifth-best Blazer (a team that we're playing in Round 1).
"I thought for sure we'd make a deadline deal to help me. We didn't have much to trade because everyone on our team is between two and 12 years past his prime except Roddy Beaubois. Our front office decided Roddy was untradeable, which sounded good on paper when he was injured, but then he came back and started playing, and now it's just plain awkward. So far he's looked like either a poor man's Tony Parker or a homeless man's Tony Parker. The Dallas employee who decided Roddy was untradeable must have been the same guy who guaranteed those 1,400 temporary seats would be done for Super Bowl XLV. To be honest, I have no idea how we ended up with a 3-seed. We're going to lose in Round 1 or Round 2. Crap. Anyway, um ... vote for Dirk for MVP!"
|
There's quite a few inaccuracies in there, but the overall idea is spot on.

Marion has been creating a fair amount of offense for a while now. He's certainly reliant on the attention Dirk receives, but he's also not just scoring off junk. Lumping him in with Chandler is very inaccurate, in my opinion.
Jason Terry is also not his second best teammate. Second best scorer, but not second best player.
And for all of Jet's faults, he's been very good in the fourth quarter for the bulk of the season, and has hit plenty of shots for this team in crunch time.
But as I said, I certainly agree with the overall message Simmons has here, he just went overboard, which is his style.

I agree with most of that. Marion can create a little offense on his own and he's been quite good this year (although to be fair, Simmons said in the 4TH QUARTER), and in the 4th, Matrix is way more timid and really doesn't create any offense on his own.

I have been immensely impressive with what Marion's done offensively this year. He has really just been fantastic. I thought he was just fine last year, but I feel like this year he has been so, so much better.

We've talked about this and it's exactly right. I do think there may be a more systemic problem here, though. Like we've discussed, I think it may be overemphasized that certain guys on the team (Dirk and JET) are the 4th quarter scorers. That's all fine and good to a degree, but if it's making other guys timid about taking good shots, then I think maybe there should be a reevaluation of the 4th quarter strategy.

You can listen to Dirk and Cuban's interviews here. Pretty typical questions and stuff, but it's always good to hear an interview with the Dirkster.

Heard it, normal stuff, talked about US basketball vs Euro. If Dirk were here, he'd probably be a back to the basket guy with more bulk. Considered coming here for HS. Named Kidd and Jet as 2 guys that need to come up big for team to go deep.

Man, whoever picked that Top 10 is a lazy POS. Half of them are just normal three pointers, yet they don't even show his and 1 three against OKC. Only #4, the gamewinner vs. NJ, and maybe the lay-up vs. Miami (no foul on that, lol) were Top 10. He's had way better plays this year.

They do. It's #7. But I agree generally....crappy selection of his plays.
