For anyone who is curious, the final score was Lake Highlands Girls 61, Team Ticket 44. Lake Highlands best player had 22.
Lake Highlands girls scored, by quarter: 8, 6, 20, 27. Having listened to the whole game, it was clear that they were playing much better team basketball the entire time, they were just nervous early on and missing everything they shot. I think they shot about 12% in the 1st Q. By the 2nd half, they had shaken off the nerves and the Ticket guys seemed gassed.

Didn't make it out of one inning...i don't think he retired a batter.
Speaking of the great game have they addressed the Basik(sp) issue? They can't allow him to pitch all seven can they?

How badly must they suck at basketball to lose to that Lake Highlands team?

I heard them discussing two possibilities. One was he be allowed to pitch an inning for each team. The other was that Rusty also play, but neither be allowed to pitch.

BaD radio is going to replay their first interview with Dirk (from '99) tomorrow.
I'll try to remember to record it and upload it. If someone hears a more specific time please post it.

Crap, got the recording started late.
And I didn't realize this was a question-centric interview instead of a shooting the breeze type thing.
Ah well.

Was that the one where Grubes played the H.I...TLER drop?
edit: just saw that the interview as in 99'. Grubes would have been like 13. Still, that was one of the more well placed drops in Ticket history.

So Mickey's out at The Ticket? Apparently Todd Archer is doing ranch reports now.

He was on The Ticket long before they were the official station of the Cowboys so I don't think that has anything to do with it.
Sounds like The Fan is just throwing money around. They couldn't get The Hardline so they went after Mikckey .
Archer's a frequent Galloway guest during football season. I wonder if his Ticket contract will still allow that.

Have they even announced that The Fan is the home of the Cowboys? I don't think they have. It's just assumed.
But yeah, as Dirno said, Mickey was around for years and years before the Ticket got the Cowboys.

Hey anyone know what the deal is with Ben and Skin's show? Why do they never ever talk about the Mavs? I used to love hearing their perspective on the team. I have fond memories of the playoff postgame shows in 06. The famous Stomile Swift crotch dunk they would spend a whole show on in the old days.
Why would they talk about generic FM radio bullshi topics like "tell us your best bossy boss story" for hours and not give the Mavs 5 minutes during the playoffs? Anyone still listen to them?

From what I can tell, their bosses are completely obsessed with call ins and listener interaction.
Ben spends a decent amount of time on two of the big Rangers boards/blogs trying to drum up good Ranger calls. He's dropped several pretty obvious hints that they don't like caller driven radio but are being forced into it. I dropped him a PM relaying my opinion of caller driven radio and asking if they were ever going to be allowed to do a conversation driven show. He asked me to send it in email form so he could forward it to his bosses and gave me his cell phone to discuss my criticisms.
I never called (I don't quite care THAT much), but I think it's obvious they hate doing this.
This FM crap radio started out of nowhere and it now being done almost all the time, along with "call in and talk to us about anything", so I can only guess that this was mandated by their bosses.
They're making a huge mistake with this. I am perfectly ready to drop the Hardline flat out, and I did when Ben and Skin were at Rangers Spring Training, but segments where they're just burning through phone calls are immediate punch outs for me.

BTW, I haven't heard enough of Todd Archer to see if he has any substance, but he's much easier on the ears than Micky by a mile.

You think so? Perhaps his voice is better, but he has alot of difficulty spitting out what he has to say. He's definitely not made for any type of public speaking in my opinion. Mickey's voice was a bit annoying, but I always thought he did a good job. Archer's segments may lead to me turning the station at times... that was never the case with Mickey.
As for ben and skin.. they're not bad, but I like it when they stick to the sports page. What I am surprised about is how little I like Sean Salisbury. That guy is not good. I thought I'd like him. On the other hand, I like Newey a little more than I had previously thought..

I head Ben and Skin’s first mix with Pete Stein and M-Rod and you could tell that caller driven radio was the way they were planning to differentiate themselves from ESPN and the Ticket. The problem with that is that most callers are boring and don’t know that much.
Not saying it can’t work. Day 1 P1’s will recall that the Hardline was largely caller (and fax) driven for the first year or so. That was before they have the skins on the wall to tell management to F off. It worked because of quirky and entertaining callers like Paul the Damn Viking and The Steven Wright Caller (although he was mostly a D&M guy). It’s unlikely that the fan would be able to duplicate that success since the funny caller is going to be hard to lure from the Ticket. Ben and Skin probably brought a few but that’s about it.
As far as Archer he sounds bland and uncomfortable in his new role. It’s like they’re trying to lob him softballs and make him fit in but it’s not working. That being said he works hard at what he does and his information should be just as good at Mickey’s. Plus not employed by Jerry Jones so there will no longer be a reason to wonder if his opinions are slanted.
Also, I listened to a bit of The Fans draft coverage and apparently they took Larry Brown too. I always enjoyed him on the pre-game show with Bob.

Dirno, I agree about Larry Brown.. He is very, very good. I'm curious as to whether or not he'd be up for a day time show.. Surely Greg Hill will be unemployed sooner rather than later.
I also agree that Archer knows his stuff. He's just poor at delivering it.

Just listened to a little Ben and Skin show from Wednesday after the Mavs won game 5. Almost unlistenable. I guess they now have two topics going on at the same time, at all times. And never stay on one more than a minute.
Probably every ratings period they don't beat the Hardline their management throws 5 more stupid ideas at them until they are completely doomed to fail and return to postgame duties on the Ticket. Which wouldn't be the worst thing.

Jr. Miller uses any Mavs-related news to bash them. He is so one-note, so transparent and completely worthless as a broadcaster.

He gives Dirk so many backhanded compliments. It's always "Dirk's great, but...." and on the end of every single thing he says you can hear him adding in his head "unlike Tim Duncan, my hero".

I was going to post something on this a couple of months ago. I was listening one night and there was no doubt in my mind that he was high. You. Could tell RJ Choppy was frustrated and after a while he stopped trying and just laid out. I haven't heard that much dead air since the rant.

We'll start off this morning with the Monday-Friday 6 am to midnight in the only demographic that the radio mavens claim is important for sports talk radio -- men 25-54.
A lot of folks predicted The Ticket's dominance would be damaged when the ratings folks went from diaries to more scientific meters. A lot of folks were wrong.
Remember these are shares or percent of total audience as counted up by Arbitron.
Ticket -- 7.2 share -- Tops among all radio stations in men 25-54.
ESPN -- 3.8 share -- No. 9
FAN ----- 2.2 share -- No. 20
These look an awful lot like last month's.
April
Ticket -- 6.0 share -- Tops among all radio stations in men 25-54.
ESPN -- 3.8 share -- No. 8
FAN ----- 2.2 share -- No. 21
I'll be back with more tomorrow.

Maybe Ben and Skin should try rolling 6 or 7 "wide"

I'm so, so frustrated with the Ben and Skin thing. They went from solid and somewhat promising to utterly unlistenable overnight. I don't even flip over to them during commercials now. They are already utterly irrelevant.
I mean, honestly, who thought it was a good idea to have those two host four hours of wacky FM bits?
Uggg.

From what I've heard, Ben and Skin are a little unhappy about the format as well... just doing what the bosses tell them.

Funny, I used to switch between the Ticket and ESPN.
With BAD radio, thanks to Bob, being my favorite of all the shows. I enjoyed his perspective on sports, and they didn't seem to get so stuck on 'Bits'
I enjoyed the Michael Irvin show and the GAC radio...
But for the past month or two, I have switched to "the FAN" with hardly ever switching back.
I start at 9:00 AM and keep it on until 3:00 PM...when Ben and Skin come on...I begin to tune out. They are simply not my taste.
So I guess I'm in the minority when I see the 2.?? rating for the FAN.
What I enjoy is the SPORTS talk and the fan input within the station. My two favorite personalities have become Sean Salisbury and Greg Hill.
It's just me, but that's my choice in Sports Radio these days.
I still enjoy the Ticket and ESPN radio...but I must admit that the Fan has surprised me in terms of quality sports talk.
Hopefully there is enough of an audience to keep all three stations around. It's nice to have true options in the Metroplex.
