The other ranking system has them first, but then again, people don't pay attention to that one.

ah ok, well either way, they are better than us, no matter what rankings are used. Great job for USA to get as far as it did. Very disappointing finish, but whatever. If we could have held on, this would be the greatest back-to-back wins in US soccer history.

Don't worry USA. I'm sure we'll get to another FIFA final in another 150 years or so.

Wow! What a game! What an amazing game for the USA! They can make some noise the WC next year if they can play a whole game like the 1st half.
Brazil-zil-zil-zil-zil!

That was not a choke job. They ran their asses off in the first half. There's only so much attacking you can put up with before you give up a goal (or goals). They resisted a more sustained barrage by Spain in the previous game, so that dam was about to break, chief.... when it held up well it was remarkable, but you can only expect to win so many games when you give up 3x as many shots on goal as you've taken.

Great matches yesterday!!!
First the Spain/SAfrica match...all the scoring in the final 17 minutes with great action in the final few minutes into stoppage time.
In the Overtime, we could see that the legs where gone on both sides, it was almost as rough as watching a triply overtime playoff hockey game.
Then onto the USA/Brazil match...I don't believe ANYONE expected the USA to be up 2-0 at the half. They showed in the first half that they could hang with Brazil and they have something to provide some type of hope for next years World Cup.
The 2nd half, Brazil remained composed and simply did what they do best...keep the ball and penetrate over and over. Similar to a Red Wings offense, they just keep coming and coming and sooner or later they will score. Honestly, the USA looked wore out, perhaps mentally more than physically. They appeared to be trying to hold on to the lead rather than maintain an attack...this allowed the momentum to shift in Brazils favor, ultimately leading to the 3-2 Victory for Brazil.
MVP of this match has got to be Howard!!! The types of saves he made in this match boarder on historical. He saved arguably 3-4 point blank goals and if not for his work in the box, team USA could have very well been blown out.
On the positive side, Team USA losing in a close match may be the best thing to happen to them going into next years world cup.
Had they won, I believe they would have developed a little undeserved cockyness and perhaps overconfidence.
Now they can taste how close they are and I believe it will help this group to sharpen their focus a little more and come into 2010 with a mission.
No doubt, Team USA remains the underdog...but they do have the Upside to exceed any and all expectations.
Congrats to Brazil, they are the powerhouse of the Soccer world for a reason!!!
This was a nice little off-season break from other sports!!!

Congrats!!! That should be some strong promise for the future National Team!!!
Personally, I'm a USA/France fan, but I do enjoy good soccer regardless of the team.
Looking forward to 2010 WC, but stronger hope for 2014 and 2018 and U.S. youth soccer continues to develop.

Latest news:
David Villa is out (Valencia is spiteful of Madrid)
Karim Benzema is in! (and at 21 years of age, he should last a long long time).
Unfortunately this seems to spell the end of Huntelaar in Madrid. We'll miss you Hunter, good luck wherever you go!

Been on the bandwagon since age 6. (Though I guess that would actually make me a real fan rather than a Bandwaggoneer)

Borussia Dortmund! Bleh! Hala Werder!
Well, Madrid's been trying to do business, but there are some unwilling owners out there.
Ribery: He's been forcing the issue, but Bayern won't let him go this year, is my guess.
Villa: Llorente (Valencia's president) hates Madrid. I think he would deal him to Barcelona, but they're asking for 50 million Euros..... which Barça does not have.
Xabi Alonso: Liverpool said that if he goes public asking to be transferred, they'll let him. And they want 37 million Euros. I think he's much closer to getting picked up than anyone else.

a disappointing performance by the american "b" squad. they were very disorganized in the 2nd half.
august 12 in azteca....it will be a very different american squad and hopefully a different result.
and oh yeah, what a disappointing performance by the official, campbell. an undeserved pk and an undeserved red card. hopefully we will not see him again.

Speaking of which, did you see Chelsea vs. Club America? It took place at the cowboy's new stadium. Looks rather nice (it should at 1.15 Billion).

Now THAT'S commitment.
My team in Brazil is currently in 2nd division, but I don't care if they turn into amateurs.... I'll support them all the way too.

I'm sorry about that.
Their goalie (Fabio) came from Vasco da Gama. They've been successful for the past couple of years, but I'm not a big fan of theirs. In fact, in Belo Horizonte I rather root for Atlético Mineiro.
