WASHINGTON – Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., a staunch critic of the federal government's lax immigration and border enforcement policies, said yesterday he would request a briefing from the Justice Department on information it has on plans revealed by WND this week for a nuclear attack on the U.S. by al-Qaida terrorists.

Rep. Tom Tancredo

Tancredo said he was greatly alarmed by the report and would seek whatever information he could get from the nation's law enforcement authorities – either in classified or unclassified reports.

Al-Qaida's plans, known as "America's Hiroshima" according to captured terrorists and terrorist documents, calls for the multiple detonation of nuclear weapons, already in the possession of Osama bin Laden's operatives currently inside the U.S. The agents and arms having been smuggled across the U.S.-Mexico border with the help of the MS-13 street gang and other organized crime groups, according to the report originating in Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin, a premium, online intelligence newsletter published by the founder of WND.

Sounds like speculation, but certainly not beyond the realm of possibility. I know for certain that the US has an amazing radiation detection system at the borders. Similar to the ones that are employed at many large city landfills to prevent the illegal disposal of radioactive waste, the border sensors are much more powerful and sensitive. Still, it is a frightening thought.

One thing to note. If a person gets his/her hands on any radioisotope (even one in which the dose rate is safe) and then blows it up in public, the public will freak out. It is really unlikely that anyone has a dangerous amount of radioactive sources and the dispersal technology to send it out over a couple of square blocks.

It would be pretty devestating to the United States if this was actaully true. If the United States actually knew this, letting it get out on the national media would probably start riots, so maybe that is why it is somewhat concealed?

Also sounds like someone is pushing their immigration policy. So if I get this right.. .Al Queda has obtained 40 fully functional nuclear weapons but hasn't blown one up in baghdad? Sounds like pretty hard speculation to me as well.

If it were true, the us wouldn't announce it probably because of having to corroborate it, it would tell who and how we got the information. In fact, this congressperson seems pretty irresponsible using this to promote his immigration reform. I don't know about Farrah's G2 source, but that seems akin to the weekly enquirer. I see not links, no corroboration. Sort of like a right wing NYTimes editorial.
