PIPPEN GOES BACK TO CHICAGO
Pippen agrees to two-year, $10 million deal
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ESPN.com news services
Scottie Pippen is returning to familiar stomping grounds.
The former Chicago Bull, shipped off in a sign-and-trade in 1999 after winning six NBA titles as Michael Jordan's right-hand man, has agreed to a two-year, $10 million contract with his old team, according to ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher.
General manager John Paxson wanted Pippen, an unrestricted free agent who spent the past four seasons in Portland, to finish his NBA career where it started.
"I think he deserves to end his career here,'' Paxson, a teammate to Pippen during their run in the 1990s, said earlier this month. "I do think there is a place for him here if he does want to come.''
The 37-year-old Pippen will be used as a defensive-minded small forward, and mentor to their crop of talented young players such as Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler .
The Bulls could afford Pippen with a midlevel exception of about $4.9 million.
"More than anything, I want to make him feel welcome," Paxson said. "To me, he would be the perfect veteran leader."
Pippen was a seven-time All-Star during his 11 seasons with the Bulls, helping them win six titles between 1991 and 1998 and setting an NBA record with 72 victories in the 1995-96 season.
Pippen didn't leave Chicago on the best of terms, though. When coach Phil Jackson left and Michael Jordan retired before the 1999 season, Pippen was shipped off in a sign-and-trade deal to Houston by former general manager Jerry Krause.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

RE: PIPPEN GOES BACK TO CHICAGO
Well there's another free agent we won't get. Hell at the rate we're going we'll have to do a sign and trade to get Bryce Drew!

RE: PIPPEN GOES BACK TO CHICAGO
MFF, that won't happen.
The Bulls should be good enough to make the playoffs next year.

I would have liked Pippen on the Mavs. He is on his last legs but he is the type of three the Mavs really need. When Healthy last year he was probably Portland's second best player behind Wallace. He would have been the ideal point forward.

PIPPEN GOES BACK TO CHICAGO
I know a lot of posters on here were hot for Pippen to come to Dallas. Pippen has been a great player, but he looked very near the end last year in the playoffs. He is 37 coming up on 38, and coming off two injury-plagued seasons. Not at all a sure deal that he can come back from his injuries and be a major contributor.
Mavericks need to look to get younger and more athletic.
Chicago's gain was the Maverick's gain.

RE: PIPPEN GOES BACK TO CHICAGO
Pippen would have been a nice addition, but not at that price.

They were 6 games out last year, and with a healthy Fizer, new Hinrich and Pippen, they should be ok.

PIPPEN GOES BACK TO CHICAGO
He would have been perfect to be the starter at the 3 until Howard developed.

PIPPEN GOES BACK TO CHICAGO
Me being a very big fan of Jordan's Bulls, will be excited to see Scottie in a Bull's uniform... It's where he should retire.
