NEW YORK -- Bill Parcells' debut as coach of the Dallas Cowboys earned Fox its highest overnight NFL rating ever, while CBS' opening-day ratings were up 14 percent.
Atlanta's 27-13 win over the Cowboys, the 4 p.m. ET game on Fox, drew a 15.2 rating with a 30 share, the network's highest pro football rating ever and the highest overnight rating for any Fox show this summer. The previous NFL high on Fox was on the opening weekend last year, when a 4 p.m. game featuring the St. Louis Rams at Denver drew a 15.1 and a 30 share. CBS' regional early coverage drew a 9.9 rating with a 21 share, up 14 percent from last year's rating of 8.7 with a 19 share. The rating is the percentage of all homes with TVs, whether or not they are in use. The share is the percentage of homes with sets in use. Overnight ratings measure the 55 largest TV markets in the United States, covering nearly 70 percent of the country. Each overnight rating point represents about 735,000 TV homes. |

that's impressive considering no one cares about Atlanta without Vick and that the cowboys are on the heels of another 5 win season.
obviously, the drawing power didn't come from Atlanta... |

Murph,
Its still the cowboys albeit the cowboys with crutches. They should have won the game and thats the bottom line. They had many chances in the first half to be at least up 14-3 in the first half yet they blew it on both sides of the ball. Imagine the momentum of 14-3 at the half instead of 7-3 and the momentum of all the good work the cowboys had 209 yards go out the window. |

of course..the cowboys could have been up 2 touchdowns rather easily in the first half

America's team with a boost from the highest profile coach in football. No way we get those ratings with Campo on the sideline. We couldn't even get on Monday Night Football last year, and the only reason we got a national game was Emmitt going for the record. Jerry's invest in Parcells was a business decision that's already paying off.

couldn't have a monday night football game because MNF had a rule against teams playing unless they had a certain record, i believe. but, because the cowboys were down, MNF kinda changed the rules a bit

Cowboys always have been America's team, and I bet they will be for awhile. Parcells getting signed helped a lot for ratings though also.
