Default Some Ideas

NOTE: These trade scenerios would not necessarily be fair trade value, but would get us some help in the middle. I checked realgm and they work. Not even sure the other team would bite. I used Finley and Jamison primarily this time. I didn't bother with Walker or Nash for ideas and stayed away from using Howard to land something more.

Jamison for Brian Grant.

Jamison for Theo Ratliff.

Finley for Antonio Davis.

Jamison/Najera for Big Z.

Delk for Othello Harrington or Jamison/Najera for Charlie Ward/Kurt Thomas.

Jamison/TAW for Rasheed Wallace or Finley/Jamison for Rasheed Wallace/Derek Andersen.

If Nellie isn't going to play Jamison, I would like the Mavs to trade him where he can he his deserved playing time. 29 mins is BS.

Are you kidding with this? Jamison doesn't deserve to play more than 29 minutes with his weak defensive effort. His stats look decent most of the time, but he repeatedly gets beaten off the dribble and he's not strong enough to hold position or challenge shots in the lane, so he's pretty much worthless on that end of the court.

You are absolutely right!

What this team needed was defensive help, and the downside of the Jamison trade, was that it added 0 defense. It added more offensive potential and more rebounding, but no defense at all.

So, yes on a team that needs more offense, Jamison may "deserve" more playing time, but on this team where we need more defensive help, I'm not sure that Jamison "deserves" any more time than others on this team. Not playing Jamison, is not the reason this team is losing.

Now, regarding the trade proposals:
Jamison for Brian Grant. Grant would fill the rebounder role, but I'm not sold on his defense. So, if we were to trade Jamison, I would look for someone who was better an defense.

Jamison for Theo Ratliff. I like Ratliff. If he can stay healthy, he would be exactly what this team needs defensively. He is a shot blocker who is especially effective as a helpside defender.

Finley for Antonio Davis. It seems lately, Finley is the only one who has a shot, but he is not expendable. Having said that, I would NOT expend him on an aging player like Davis. I'd look elsewhere.

Jamison/Najera for Big Z. Zarunas looks like he would work, but I'm not that impressed with his defense, and this trade would have to be about getting more defense.

Delk for Othello Harrington or Jamison/Najera for Charlie Ward/Kurt Thomas. I like Othello and if all we lose is Delk, then I would do this trade. I'm not that impressed with Ward and Thomas is undersized, but always works hard.

Jamison/TAW for Rasheed Wallace or Finley/Jamison for Rasheed Wallace/Derek Andersen I don't want to see Wallace in a Dallas uniform unless he has a change of attitude. Now granted we could use some of his toughness on this team, but I think the emotional baggage he brings with him will be a bane on this team.

Someone on LMF said this, and I agree. The Mavs have assembled a great roto team by making good trades, but now it appears to be time to make a trade that might not appear to be "equal talent" or "fair trade value" but which meets the dire need this team has.

To that end...

<u>Jamison for Brian Grant</u>

Don't really care for Grant, but if you were willing to send Van Exel for Grant you should be willing to send him for Jamison. Grant's a much better defender than Jamison, but I think some of the scenarios below are better.

<u>Jamison for Theo Ratliff</u>

Actually, you could get Ratliff and Stephen Jackson. I **might** do that, but I lean against it. Ratliff's doesn't produce very well other than blocked shots. The nice thing about this trade is that you'd get two defensive-minded roleplayers who know they are roleplayers.

<u>Finley for Antonio Davis</u>

I'd think about it. I'd pass because I think Finley is still vital to this team, but I'd think about it.

<u>Jamison/Najera for Big Z.</u>

I don't think Nelson would use Zydrunas. Also, I don't know that Zydrunas really gives us what we need -- a mean mother f****r down in the lane who will stop the layup drill, defend the post, and rough people up.

<u>Delk for Othello Harrington or Jamison/Najera for Charlie Ward/Kurt Thomas.</u>

I have no use for Harrington, but you could get Ward and Thomas straight up for Jamison. I'd do that quickly, but sadly enough, I don't think New York would.

This is my favorite trade other than the Wallace acquisition, so I want to explore it a bit further.

New roster post-trade:

Thomas - Bradley - Fortson
Nowitzki - Najera
Walker - Howard
Finley - Daniels - Delk
Nash - Best - Ward

Yeah, yeah, I know Thomas can't stop Shaq. But he has some talent, is a double-double player, and he will give up his body to stop opponents in the lane. Also, having Ward thrown in allows you to potentially use Best as a piece in another trade if one is available.

<u>Jamison/TAW for Rasheed Wallace or Finley/Jamison for Rasheed Wallace/Derek Andersen. </u>

Yes to the first, no to the second.

If we trade fin we need to get another guard. I do not trust Howard Delk and Daniels to run this team at the 2

kurt thomas is not the answer. Hes no better than antoine walker defensively or on the boards..hes 6'9. If you wanna talk a deal with NY. Im talkin Jamison/Fortson for Thomas and Mutombo. Mutombo may be old but he can play 15-20 minutes of solid defense for us down the stretch...

another player we might want to look at is Scott Pollard???

Mutombo could have been had as a free agent. Perhaps we should have tried to acquire him then. But seriously, Mutombo's not going to come West. He's staying where he is.

As for Thomas, I believe his rebounding numbers are slightly better than Walk's numbers, but where he really helps you is defensively. He's not a shotblocker, but he definitely can defend the post very well and he throws his body around inside. I think Walk is a pretty decent/good defender most of the time, but Thomas lives to defend and play in the paint. It's guys like that that we need.

I'd love to have him just for 15 mpg, but Nellie wouldn't play him. Boy, isn't that a broken record...perhaps it's time to play a new tune in Dallas, if you know what I mean.

I would love to have Pollard on this team and if Nellie didnt play him much then he should be fired..its rediculous to have a coach like this and frankly its becoming annoying.

I really REALLY hate the possibility of "CTC" Wallace coming here but I would have to do a Jamison/TAW for Wallace trade.

None of the options excite me. I really don't think that there is a player or players that we can realistically trade for that will make that much of a difference.

However I'd rather have Mihm than Big Z off the Cavs.

I agree LRB...im jus not sure if there are any trades that could realistically be made that would help us win the title this year.

How about signing this guy:

http://www.nba.com/draft2002/profile...son.html#stats
http://www.hoopshype.com/interviews/benson_sierra.htm

His name is Lee Benson and I am sure everyone remembers him from last years draft... He spent 8 years in jail for drug charges, but is working hard towards making the NBA... We could use our last spot on him and see if he could grow into anything worth using. He had some good years and played good prison ball. A great defensive player and scorer in the past... That toughness from jail and his overall talent might be worth a look!

Well we could use him for trade bait for the JailBlazers. Sounds like he'd fit right in with that team.

If the players aren't being best utilized now, I don't think a trade will cure that. If we can correct the situation where the players are best utilized, then maybe we might find a trade that can help us. Regardless I don't see a trade of players as the savior to the Mavs from their problems.
