There are options to that with him. Barnes and Anderson actually could be able to play 2 positions. So it's like having a 2 for 1 deal from each of those players if we're able to have both of them.

I meant btw backup Dirk at PF. But pretty obvious mistake

Wes-Simba-Barnes-Dirk and you got position 2 to 4 covered

Rick doesn't play Anderson at SG.

So there are a few guys out there who were high draft picks but haven't flourished yet....so why aren't we in that market? The Jazz just traded Burke away for a 2nd round pick? Why are we not doing moves like that?

There are young players out there who were ex-lottery picks who need to develop. Similar to how we did with Brandon Wright or Tyson Chandler.....

He may not have any choice on this team. I don't think it really matters to be honest. I don't see why Barnes cant' slide to the 2 on offense.

So is Simba the nickname for Justin Anderson? Where did that come from?

Its a shame because Dirk could be building up on his legacy now. His unselfishness....while appreciated has probably hindered his career somewhat. IMO, Dirk's efficiency and his scoring ability at his size is probably the best i've ever seen. He will go down as a great but he should go down as one of the best.

Yeah, look at what 5 years of mediocrity/injuries did to Kobe's legacy -- he was knocking on Jordan's door for Best All-Time, now he's generally seen as somewhere in the top 5-10.

He's definitely top 20 all time and he moved to my #2 all time PF after 2011. Just typing this reminds me of the 2006 finals....ugh he should have 2 rings.

@ramonashelburne: Matt Barnes has drawn interest from the Clippers, Kings, Mavericks and Warriors, according to a source. Market for guys like him will take shape after Durant decides.

@fishsports: ALERT: sources tell me #Mavs are NOT in pursuit of long-time nemesis Matt Barnes. #Relieved

‏@TravisRW :Mavs strategically leaked a fake Matt Barnes rumor to placate us about the lesser-of-two-evils Harrison Barnes.

Can you imagine if we signed wade and Matt Barnes? we might as well then go all in and bring rondo back, along with getting fisher and odom out of retirement

Why stop there? Sign Kobe to lay some bricks in Dallas. Don't forget Bynum's haircuts while you are at it.

@ZachLowe_NBA: Interesting: lots of big man RFAs left, but almost none of the remaining big cap room teams have an urgent need at either PF or C.

@ZachLowe_NBA: Mavs need everything, obviously. Nets up in air w/ offer sheet/s. POR/HOU/BOS have the big man RFAs. Utah has crowded roster, Hill to extend

Anyone else feel like Mavs fans are a lot like the fat kid who was always picked last and nobody wanted on their team?

TMac on point: "Indicative of the two different paths the Mavs are trying to navigate"

We want flexibility and still trying to stay young. Thing is, I dont think you can do both and be successful. Not this time around.

I'd like to move Harris and see what can happen. Think he has good value in the market. We strongly need another PF and Center. And what the heck will we do when Barnes is matched.

I feel bad that Williams is conned by Cuban into a one year deal for the "better good" of the franchise since you know he wants to play in Dallas. And I didn't really even want Williams to return.

Is there anything about Tyler Zeller? How committed is Boston to signing him back? He's a restricted free agent Mavs could try an offer.

You do know that Deron is collecting a final 13 million paycheck from the Nets next season? Combined he is going to earn a nice 23m next season.

Age 32
Regular season games he played in the past six years:
65
55
78
64
68
65

Do you feel really sorry that the Mavs didnt want to give him a multiyear deal???

Really? Deron did actually better than what he's done in brooklyn past 2 years since. If we land Barnes, it could get much better opening more shots.

True point guards are that much valuable. Kidd got traded here for a young Devin Harris when he was like 32 I believe. We took the risk in waiting. So I'll give Deron another season to see how much better he can look working with the team.

This is so true. Was thinking about how Cuban likes to get players into positions like this where they feel like they cant say no ala Tyson 1/20m after 2011. Its such a disingenuous way to treat players.

Honestly only wanted Deron back IF we had other star players to cover up his weaknesses. Now he'll be a focal point for on court success or lack there of. Its a lot to ask of him even though hes better than hes been in years. Really hope they lock up Brandon Jennings. He's the last UFA that can log meaningful minutes at PG and take pressure off Deron

Williams proved in six of the last seven seasons that he is an injury prone and just cant stay healthy. He is 32 now.

Kidd was on ironman, even after microfracture surgery at age 31. This is the amount of games he played after his 32th birthday:
80
80
80
81
80
80 (this was at age 37)

You cant compare Kidd and Deron.

Can we expect a Zaza 1/15 contract next season.

Basically field the exact same roster as last year while Parsons was injured?

Haven't really seen that much of Jennings over the years, but my perception of him is he has the ability to create his own shot. Seems like the kind of guy the Mavs really could use.

If Barnes pulls through it could look set at the guards and forwards. Which has us look for mostly a tall rebounder. Who can primarily rebound defense and offense sides.

If Barnes signing goes through then I would rather we get James Johnson and start McGee.

I'm really glad you're not the Mavs GM.

My gut tells me Deron wanted a 1 year deal if it was going to be at 10 million. He will try to play like the star he used to be to get a long term contract next summer. Now if he could have gotten 20 million per then he would have signed a long term deal. That's just my guess.
