Dallas Morning News sources say the Mavericks are close to signing veteran center Eddy Curry.

He looked "good" for the Spurs, since Kaman may be out against the Lakers and is injuryprone, maybe not that bad of a move.
Dojo to be gone?

West's days as a Mav are numbered.

In a weird series of coincidences, Curry was joined on the Bulls by Tyson Chandler as he was selected second overall in the draft by the Los Angeles Clippers, who immediately traded his draft rights to the Bulls for...Elton Brand.

From what I read in the SA Express(our local excuse for a paper) Curry was doing really well for the Spurs-doing what needed to be done. Granted, I never saw him play for them, so who knows. But it did appear that he was trying to get into the good graces of the Spurs, so he'd probably be fine on the Mavs in limited minutes.
You guys have Whataburger in Dallas, right?

8.4 points and 3.6 rebounds in 15.4 minutes a game this preseason (five games). Those numbers aren't gonna wow anyone, but for a third string center, that's pretty decent.

"Eddy had a really good camp. I thought he did a really good job, he played well. It's just kind of situational that we can't keep him. I wish we could with his size and his skill. But he had a really good camp and it was tough playing against him, but it was fun."

I hated him since he arrived in this league but i will give him a fair chance before i bash him because he actually lost his burger weight And the guy is allready broke, so he SHOULD playing his ass off.

I thought this was a funny post from Sparestalk:
"I'm shocked that Pop let Curry leave. I know he had trouble w/ pick&roll, but he could have learned it as the season went on. Even Timmy said he hated to see him go because he worked hard and was a big guy they needed. I'm starting to believe that Pop doesn't want us to get better because every time we have someone with potential he let's them go. Now Mavs got deeper with Curry. They may not win a title w/ Curry but will give us a hard time. Fucking Pop, I know that he did this to stick it to the fans and tell us "sorry no championship ever again, just enjoy the playoffs"
If Pop says we're trying to improve that is crap. Fucking pizza face, go to hell."

He'll probably be the starting center for the first game. Brand is not a center.

It was a Brand/Wright combo who started the second half of the Thunder game. I'd opt towards them two playing the 4/5, with some Curry at the 5 and plenty of smallball. Both players are not really centers, but both have played that position more often in recent years and can do a passable job.

The game vs. LAL will be a total disaster lol.
Nash+Gasol/Dwight. That's a lot of fouls for our bigs and a lot of FT's and dunks for LAL...

Please cut Dojo and not Delonte.
Better yet, don't even sign Curry. Sign Terrence Williams.

Or cut Dojo and Delonte, then sign Curry and Williams?
That would clear up the combo guard logjam...

Not that I've been remotely excited about seeing DoJo play rotation minutes, but I at least trust him more than Jared at the point right now; and I'm already a bit uneasy about PG depth with Delonte gone. Just something to consider.

That would be fantastic. Williams can play some point forward as well.

I was uneasy about PG depth with Delonte here... From what I can tell, the only point guard on this team is Collison - all of our other combo guards lean more towards being shooting guards. I'd like to see 2 or 3 of them shipped out in exchange for a true PG, because OJ Mayo is probably our best floor general behind Collison (which is another way of saying that we don't have one...)

Why? West is playing horribly and he's a valid threat to the chemistry. What little there may be right now, we couldn't afford to have him popping off or acting up in the locker room or off the court. We need normal hard working guys to try and step up, like Crowder. I'd rather have Dojo all day. At least he puts his head down and goes to work.
If Dojo figures a few things out in a role, given minutes, he has much more upside here than West imo. If someone is gonna turn the ball over and play wild ass, I'd much rather it be from an inexperienced player. I'd prefer the guy that isn't on meds or have a shaky history. While both guys on their best days aren't gonna make or break this team, only one of them could hurt the team off the court on their bad days.

Thanks for sharing Bryan!
Chris Douglas-Roberts apparently got a non-guaranteed contract as well. Another guy I'd rather have as #14 or #15 over Dojo.

Whats Curry's game? Not real familiar with how he plays. Is he a post player? Good hands? Passing? Rebounding?

Good hands, good scorer in the post back in the day. Weak passer, defender and rebounder, though.

Having a hard time seeing how claiming Elton Brand off the amnesty carousel + signing Chris Kaman in free agency = nothing.

I wasn't talking about starters in my post...
Kaman was signed in July and everybody knows he's injury prone but the Mavs didn't seem in any rush to find him a quality back center or try to trade for one.

Think: A 6-11 Mark Aguirre. Curry's best season with the Knicks, he was a bull in the low post, with surprisingly nimble footwork for a 300-pounder. Was good at drawing contact, and could finish with a soft touch. Soft hands. But absolutely could not pass out of a double team.
Terrible rebounder, slow to the boards, slow off his feet. Zero as a shot-blocker, nailed to the floor defensively. He'll make Haywood look like Mutombo.
He may be more motivated now in terms of effort, trying to hang on in the league for another paycheck, but he's 5-years older now too, and he doesn't look like he's much under 300-lbs. And he can balloon quick, Oliver Miller-quick.
