GDT 62: Mavs (35-27) v. RED HOT Wizards (29-34) (9-1 last 10)
Thought I’d give this a try.
Huge game for the Mavs, we’re only .5 ahead of the Blazers and the Wizards are red hot and fighting for seeding. This will basically be a playoff game.
Go Mavs!!

The wizards are dogs. I hope the Mavs can match their intensity. Westbrook is not f’n around.

Westbrook has been grabbing double digit rebounds and dishing out double-digit assists. Beal is, well you know, really good. These two are a real handful in the backcourt and the Mavs will have to play with that rare level of intensity only observed against those teams with above .500 records. You never know which Mavs team will show up, but I am going to say the Mavs win in a nail-biter..
Mavs 109
Wiz 106

We will live or die by the 3. I think we will lose this one. I expect us to play smallish, and shoot inconsistent on 3's, and Westbrook and Beal are going to look like starting all-stars. I'm afraid Powell is going to be starting and/or playing significant minutes as we match up with them instead of trying to dictate the matchups. I hope I'm wrong.
I'd really like to see a WCS Maxi start, but Boban is not going to get much burn, so that'll leave Powell in with a smallish 2nd lineup that has very little defense and likely to get eaten alive. I think I'm going to catch the highlights and follow the gdt. Go Mavs.

Invite Westbrook to shoot lots of threes is the best way to defend him. Or maybe he’ll self implode on his own as he can be an emotional basket case which often leads to lots of boneheaded decisions by him.
Mavs win IF they get off to a good start. If they get behind early and play catch up the entire way, then a definite L.

Time for Wiz to regress to the mean and lose by double digits.
Mavs by 11.

If we have Dorian and KP, who are listed as day to day on the espn app under the preview, I think we win this game. And honestly, if we are missing either of those TWO, hate to say it but I think we lose.. hope not!!!
LETS. GO. MAVS!!!!!!!

Never a great sign when they are ruled out a day in advance imo. Usually means he's at least going to miss a few more.

Yea. We are in a terrible spot regarding him IMO. Sucks for him, I wish he wasn't injury prone and its probably not his fault but if he plays well postseason they don't even think about trying to move him. If he doesn't then no one else wants him.

Richardson is such a scrub. I can’t watch him turn it over and brick shots anymore. Get him the F off the team.

Anytime you give up 39 in a quarter its a failure by defense and imo a lack of effort.

Richardson should not see another minute in this game and why hasn't Burke played?

Carlisle is like a cheating significant other... he may promise to change, you may see some temporary changes, but he will always revert to his true self.

Yet some fans actually want to bring both him and THJ back next year on so called bargain contracts
I'd rid my hands with both of them and try anything new because it's quite apparent you aren't going anywhere with either of them.
Defensively, I've seen more effort and fight out of Trey Burke in the last week than I have from either one of them all year.

Say you want about this guy but you can never accuse him of not playing hard.
He would never be accepted in a Mavs uniform because he doesn't fit the Mavs so called culture but if 1-2 players on this team had the physicality and nastiness in them that Westbrook brings every night this team would be better off.
Effort and energy would never waiver

I sure hope RC doesn't leave THJ one on one vs Beal and they might want to consider putting in a rim protector to help on a drive

Somehow, what a great win. Normally they’d get down and pack it in. What a grind and happy for DFS

Great win.
-Love to see Luka trust DFS with that shot.
-Richardson needs to opt out this off-season for the love of god.
-Are we better without Porzingis? There’s something to be said for consistency/ availability/ perimeter defense which all improve when he’s not out there.

I don't really see any reason to bring back Richardson. I think Green will be able to exceed Richardson's defense and offensively it would be hard for Green to be worse

i honestly haven't seen a difference between him and D.Wright from last year.
accept rick had a much shorter leash on Wright
Wright at least shot the ball better from 3

JRich shows as much fight as anyone on the team defensively. He just isn't as big of a factor as we all thought he would be. His inconsistency and ability on the offensive end highlights his overall ineffectiveness.

We just Beat one of the hottest teams in the league without our 3rd best player (kp).
Dfs with an inspiration game. The 3% consistency is nice and all but He is mixing up his attack more than ever. What he said about Luka (and the guys) trusting him was perfect. His awareness when he said "man Luka trusting me is huge, I just stepped out of bounds and he went back to me 2 times after that".
Burke has stayed ready. He was there for us in the PO last year and he's coming around again late. 6 dnpcd or so in a row and he comes in and helps keep us going.
Luka...what more can you say? Give him a billion dollars.

Yes he does play with energy on defense but doesn't seem to really stop anyone. I was kind of expecting some defense similar to what we saw from Burke on Curry last week, great effort despite Curry still knocking down shots but his ball pressure led to 4 steals that game.
It might be time to have Richardson join THJ off the bench because both guys have had recent stretches like this in the past month
Josh Richardson may need to change roles
This was Richardson’s ninth game of the season (out of 50 games) shooting under 30% from the floor. He’s just in a dark place offensively and has been really bad since going nuts in Utah hitting all five of his threes, shooting just 36% from the floor over 10 games.
He’s started every game he’s been available this year but it’s to the point now where it’s worth questioning why. Richardson rarely guards the other team’s best player, so there’s not a good defensive reason. Offensively, he’s been pretty bad most of the year, shooting just 32% from three (a step up from his putrid 23% these last 10 contests) and he’s not been a consistent play maker and has seemingly disastrous live ball turnovers.
We’d all like to see him thrive, he was a big part of the off-season. But it’s time to try something new.

Good to hear the part about trust. It had seemed that Luka had started to not trust teammates in the latter half of the season.

Something else I noticed a couple of times that when Lukas drive was cut off, he pulled up for the easy jumper. Hope he keeps attempting those. Guys will keep overplaying the drive.

Yea, the want and hustle is there but the success and growth isn't. He won't have anyone wanting to give him a raise to leave so he will pick up his final year option. I guess we could include him on a trade next year depending on the need.
