Okafor getting a lot of interest from 4-5 teams. Rumors are the Mavs are in on that.

Still, Stein says, "Okafor, however, is unlikely to sign with a team until midseason as he continues to heal from a herniated disk."

Sounds like we'll all have to wait. If He'd sign here, I'd be all for waiving James and giving him his roster spot.

Default JJ Barea

If Minnesota buys out JJ the Mavs should pay off Ray Felon (Felton) and replace him with on the Roster with JJ.

He's gotta clear waivers since we're now over the cap, but Id be okay with stretching/waiving Felton for JJB if he did hit free agency

Doesn't sound like Dallas is interested in either option: JJ/Stretching Felton

Better get used to the idea of Felton hanging around for a few months.

Really depends on how well Parsons does and it's yet to be decided if it was a good move. If Parsons keeps playing at the same level, it's not awful, but definitely not good. If he can take the same leap that Harden did, then it could be the best move of the offseason. Really depends on how Parsons fits here and how well he plays.

I'm guessing "Houston's bag of nothing" wasn't an option?

Shannon Brown signed a 1 year 1.3 million deal with the Heat. I really wanted Dallas to go after him in July.

I would love to have JJ back sometime in the future. I really love watching him play. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WidARe8Mmdw (He almost had a dunk against us at the 6:34 mark lol)

PS- For some reason JJ doesn't look that small to me anymore. I think he really is in that 5'11-6'0 range that he's usually listed as, but he has short arms which at first glance may make him appear smaller than he actually is. *Shrugs*

What would he do for us?

I love his athleticism, but he can't run an offense, he can't shoot a jumper from anywhere on the floor, can't score particularly well, and doesn't have particularly good size for a SG.

Love it!

Yeah, I loved Barea when he was here, but we have enough short guards already I think.

He's 5-7 at best. I'm 6-2 and Iv stood next to him and I absolutely tower over him

JJB's draft measurements were 5'10.0" without shoes and 5'10.75" (almost 5'11") with shoes. I'd probably trust that. That's still very short, but nowhere near 5'7", but also far from the 6'0" he's listed at by NBa.com and ESPN.com.

I'm 5'9" and I was at least a couple of inches taller than JJ when I met him.

Check out this tweet by Earl Sneed, I really, really like that:

"Want to know what kind of guy is joining the @Dallas Mavericks? @Chandler Parsons walked through the entire office today and met each employee."

This team should have ridiculousy great chemistry next year.

He is athletic, you can put him on the floor with Monta, Brandan, Tyson and Parsons for a fast athletic lineup. Also Shannon is a solid defender, having him defend on the perimeter would be a upgrade.

Athletic without a jumper is bad news for a guard, particularly next to Ellis who is only an average three-point shooter. Dude hasn't hit a three in two years and was only average before that. Just look at Aminu-- he'll be lucky to play 10mpg despite being a top -10 defender and a top-5 rebounder and he's a forward, which traditionally isnt as important offensively.

I have to admit that a lineup of Ellis/Aminu/Parsons/Wright/Chandler would be fun to watch at times. Plenty of defense and just enough offense considering our defense would probably create a lot of fast breaks.

We'll need Aminu to get more than 10mpg or we will struggle on defense.
Ellis/Aminu/Parsons/Dirk/Chandler would be pretty balanced in crunch time.

1) Ellis/Aminu/Parsons/Wright/Chandler would be awful defensively and offensively. Sure it'd have size, but Ellis isn't stellar defensively and I don't think i'd want to see Parsons at 6'9" or Aminu at 6'10" guarding a quick 6'4" guard. Also, that lineup would struggle with three-point shooting to spread the floor. Parsons at 36% and Ellis at 33% are both decent when the floor is spread, but arent a threat enough to keep the floor spread.

2) I think you'll be surprised what kind of team defense we can muster just with Chandler guarding the middle and a decent team-defensive scheme by Carlisle. I think individual defensive strength is massively overrated compared to defensive strategies. There is a reason Spurs players all look either good or average and then look like crap on other teams. There's also very little room in the NBA for one-way guys. Dalembert was our best defensive player last year and he was still a net negative, because his defensive game was so limited. Our defense will be fine without Aminu and Aminu's relative lack of offense will limit his minutes severely. My guess is that he'll see about 7mpg in about 45GP

Miroslav Raduljica just waived by the Clips. I may be the only one, but I like him a lot more than James. Probably won't clear waivers with such a small rookie contract and we probably aren't waiving James to get him.

Still, at 26 he's been a late bloomer with some decent skills/size for a backup C.

I don't disagree with your point but I'd be stunned if parsons shoots 36% on 3s

I see Parsons taking Carter's place but in a bigger role and Aminu taking Marion's place but in a lesser role.

I am excited by the array of bodies Carlisle now has at his disposal. We have 2 full sized centers now, instead of a shorty and a string bean. But he also has the opportunity to put Wright in, and possibly force some teams to bench a big 5 who can't keep up with him. All of this year's 5's are more mobile than Dalembert

At the 4, instead of having to use Marion when Dirk rests, he can choose offense with Parsons or defense with Aminu, or slide Wright in there to run pick and rolls with Harris...in fact our top 4 guards are all pretty good at the PnR.

Last season, with the exception of the occaisional scoring blast from Blair or Wright, both the 4 and 5 were offensive black holes when Dirk went to the bench, and the 3 wasn't much better. Now, all of our 5's can at least catch and finish, so they will have to be defended. Parsons brings more scoring to the 3 and the backup 4, where his backup is an elite defender.

I can't wait to see how the pieces mesh.

Generally agree, but Chandler and Dirk are the only 7 footers on the team. Smith, Wright, and James are all 6'10"

I like the potential Chandler and Smith have on this team. I think Chandler can take his game to the next level and I love the way Smith aggressively attacks the rim. I see a little bit of Barkley in Smith the way he uses his body to his advantage in the paint and many of his highlights show him either dunking over someone or defenders are getting out of his way.

I have high hopes for those two and hope they don't disappoint.
