I'm just glad they prioritized keeping Wood. That shows some intelligence there over keeping DFS.
Luka/Wood/Irving is a damn nice trio.

Mavs depth chart
Powell/Kleber/McDNP (ouch!)
Wood/Bertans/Morris/Silva
THJ/Green
Kyrie/Hardy
Luka/Wright/Frank/Pinson
Center - obviously nowhere near where you need it. Not one guy is better than 45th at their position (passable backup)
PF - Good starter (12th among centers). Just no depth of any consequence unless Morris turns out. When healthy, Bertans can be old Peja. Kleber can play some PF when healthy, though.
SF - Green good just has to develop and stay out of foul trouble. I hate THJ.
Guards - golden. Two allstar starters who can log heavy minutes. Backups are weak, but you have two players that are top-30

I think you're starting Green over THJ because you don't need the offense in the starting lineup anymore.

Well that lineup is the worst defensive lineup in the league too. I'd rather make a trade for a defensive PF like Crowder or a rebounder like Vanderbilt and keep wood at center.

And Kidd can justify benching THJ because we have enough offense now

I know the league hates THJ as much as we do if not more, but
THJ/McGee and picks can on paper get you Poeltl and McDermott.
We'd have two allstar starters and a starting-caliber player at every position with Poeltl.

I bet we tried to dump THJ off on the Nets and they told us where to stick that idea.
Might be difficult to move him at all. Terrible contract.

I don't know that Kyrie makes us great but who in the West is really scary? Maybe Denver or Memphis. I doubt they'll be thrilled to face the best backcourt in the league. But we still need to make more moves for sure.

Both Kyrie and Luka average over 20 shots per game for years now, Luka 22 shots per game this year. If you're one of the other 3 starters don't expect many shots.

Yeah that's kinda funny lol. But it's weird how so many players have little connections like that. Seems like it would be low odds.

I just thought it was a strange thing to mention. His best buddy KD couldn?t do anything with him, but we got a dude that he played a game with in high school to help stabilize him.

I dont expect the national media or must pundits to like this move for obvious reasons. I would like to know what their solution would be though. Continue to run it back with this ridiculously flawed team while Luka carries an entire franchise on his shoulders? If Kyrie works? then fantastic, i think we could realistically challenge for a title. If he doesn?t? Then the Mavs opened up a 21 million dollars to possibly go after an impact player this summer.
I just don?t see how this move doesn?t work for the Mavs. We had to show Luka that we are going to surround him with more than a bunch of one dimensional 3 and D guys.

I'm only disappointed in the 2027 unprotected first round pick, but the price of doing business I guess. Lakers would have given them one for Kyrie too.

It's not 2027 frp. It's 2029.

Wait why does Woj say 2029 pick while the rest say 2027?
It is 2029 I could have sworn I read 2027, I'm getting old I guess.

Make more moves. Bullock/THj and a pick if needed to get them gone. Luka/wood/uncle drew / green /hardy are good core. Need an athletic defensive center and better sf/wing shooter. I?m

This looks more like desperation than balls. Maybe they have other things working, though, and maybe they are planning on using this as a reset button. I just don?t know how you can trust this dude. My worst fear is that they go to the conference finals with Kyrie playing and acting great, and they re-sign him. Then Kyrie becomes Kyrie again.

Hell, There's a good chance we make a deep run and he just bails anyway. Expect anything.

K, I'll take the deep playoff run.
I'll take a FO that swings for the fences all day, every day.
If being "likable" doesn't win you rings, then I'll take the other. Not saying we win it all with Irving, but this persona of the Mavs being "likable" has hopefully changed.
I'll take someone like Draymond Green all day long on my team.
You know who isn't likable that will spit in your face and smile about it? The Eagles. Guess how their season is going...

That might be the best scenario, if they can sign a star with the space.

Yea. Unless the outside perspective is, why would I go sign there when:
Brunson left
Wood left
Kyrie left

Which is another of many reasons they need to avoid that and either extend Wood or trade him by Thursday!

An excellent point. Nobody said this shit don't come with risks, but we were't going anywhere with Luka and the others.

I mean the time is now to be desperate?..Lukas future with the team is dependent on it. Nico and Cuban know that. If it doesn?t work oh well. They weren?t winning anything so the Dinwiddie anyway.

I guess I had some hope that they wouldn?t have to gamble so hard. It may work out, but I?m not on board with the ?oh well? sentiment.

What a strange take some people have that the problem with the trade is paging too much.
Minnie traded five FRPs for Gobert. We traded a throw-in from the KP trade, a high-motor undrafted guy we developed, and one FRP for an all star starter
Plenty of reason to not like Kyrie. As a person I hate him almost as much as Harden and Wade, but we got a screaming deal.
Is it the right call? No way to tell. Even someone with Dirk?s amazing personality could fail. Tougher personalities could make it harder, but some really smart people like Nico and yes, Luka, wanted him here and that?s reason enough for me to give it a chance. From a talent perspective, we paid little and got a top-20 player. At least on paper, that?s a steal

Exactly, and I don't see how anyone would think it would be different.
