Cuban and DP seem to have a friendship that goes beyond basketballs normal owner/player relationship. That doesn't mean Cuban vetos deals to keep a buddy. The issue is that NO ONE wants Powell. We are probably the only team who would have given him 10+m. We did what we do, whixh is out bid ourselves. Several guys on the team now are in that boat and Messley Mathews was too. Did he get a little more than he should have because of that relationship or was it because he did show moments of promise toward the end of his contract year and he's a damn good dude in general? Probably a little of both.
Cuban just ok'd a deal for McGee to start here to begin the season. I'm not giving my best friends role away to McGee in a promised role if that relationship mattered more than trying to win and improve. Cuban knows that if he traded him, DP would go hug him and say "I understand, no hard feelings, good luck, ill call you". That's how good of a guy DP seems to be. It doesn't make him a great basketball player but I'm betting Cuban isn't passing up a good chance to improve if a deal involves Powell. There's just no teams who think Powell is more than a decent back up or salary match fodder.

I will say that we're losing 20 ppg from Wood, then that means playing Hardy. If Kidd doesn't so that, then we should just trade him. I'd prefer Kidd be fired, but we all know that won't happen.

I think a big part of DP being here is he was the bridge from Dirk to keep the locker room professional. Show guys how to work hard and be a solid presence off the court. A guy that will give you 100% effort. That being said hopefully they can pick up a useful player with his expiring contract.

And teams need that kind of leadership, especially when all the vets and the coach have been replaced. We essentially has Boban to lead by example and stay positive. Pinson is here to be positive.
I like having Powell here (but I?d also trade him for an upgrade). I think the issue isn?t Powell. It?s Cuban, Donnie, and Nico. Having Powell on the roster is good. Having such a trash roster that he is often our only option? That?s in Cuban and Nico.

You make a good point. Powell can be a useful bottom of the roster player. It?s not his fault that the owner and GM have so poorly constructed a team that relies on a guy like Powell to be more than he is capable.

We have to upgrade Dorian, DP and Bullock. God they suck. I've long been tired of DP and Bullock but I'm over Dorian too.
Even with no trades, I'm pulling Dorian for Green in the starting/minutes role. When Wood and Maxi gets back, until changes are(nt) made:
Luka
SD
Green
Wood
Maxi

Our 2 best players can't hit fn free throws. It's appealing and embarrassing. The only fn correct call Derek Harper made this season was the fact that weve lost at least a handful of games just due to free throws.

I remember when Dallas Maverick fans mocked anyone who questioned the NBA Finals where the Dallas Mavericks lost and Dwayne Wade set the record for most free throws, they said it was impossible to ever rig a game. Then a ref from that Finals went to prison and admitted they rigged games.

That was exactly what I said. I said I think Cuban has decided to keep Powell here. To you that's as crazy as saying invisible people exist everywhere for some reason. Just dumb. It's not that far fetched and the evidence supports it because Powells been here since Rajon freaking Rondo came here in a trade. Mediocre role players usually end up on 10 different teams not 1 for 9 years.
Why do you care so much anyway? You have your own Cuban fanboy club? Cuban is a joke everybody knows that. We know for a fact he gets in the middle of trades when he really isn't qualified to do so and he's been doing it since he got here. You went way overboard in your reaction you could have just said you don't agree like an adult. Grow up it's just a game. I don't even give a shit if I'm wrong, it's just my opinion.

No, I just like to call out stupidity when I see it. Making the connection of Powell being Cuban's movie buddy and his tenure here as a Mav as if it means jack shit is about as dumb as it comes. Joke or not, it's tiring as it's been mentioned multiple times.

Cuban is a clown and you're a Cuban homer that what this really is about. You may even be Dwight Powell himself. I'm done conversating with you.

It's hard to fathom that we couldn't beat that deal. But it definitely means the Mavs have to make a move now. You can't let a Western foe get a player like for nothing while you yourselves do nothing.

Mavs 2-7 and headed to:
Resurgent Suns
Jazz
Pelicans
Warriors
Jazz
Clippers
Kings
Kings
Other than Pistons Monday we won?t play a legitimately bad team until February 23
Can?t suck against the bad teams. Now we?re about to get tossed around by good teams. Fully expect us to go 3-8 or 2-9 over the next 11

Mavs 2-7 and have fallen from 4th to 7th with a brutal run of 11 games about to begin against 10 playoff teams
Mavs now just 1 game away from 12th place and being out of the play-in

We're 25-24 we still have 19 games against teams that are .500 or better, 14 games against teams below .500, but those include Golden State twice (currently 24-25), Indiana twice (24-25) and Minnesota (24-25). So a huge majority of our remaining games are going to be against teams with either a similar record than us or better.

Tank and become sellers. Rebuild around Luka, Green, and Wood. You might even get a high enough pick to land a real star via draft or trade. Cuban doesn?t have the balls to do it, but it?s what we actually need.

He won't do it because people buy tickets. His success is based on sellouts and entertaining casuals who aren't that knowledgeable about the game. Those who go to a game or 2 a year and don't follow Mavs super closely.

I mean how long does the 2-7 record have to last before people stop buying tickets without the tank?

Y'all act like the tickets aren't already largely sold. Mavs operate much like the Cowboys in that corporate sales dominate. Just peep the stands at how many lower-level seats (usually 2-4 in a row) are empty. Companies don't mind the expense in the end, and Cuban still gets to claim sellouts despite the actual attendance being much lower.
Also, TV deals and shared revenues, fans in the stands don't make as much of an impact.

If they are already sold out then there is no argument not to tank and retool for next year.

No, you're right, company tax write offs pay for a lot of tickets. BUT there are quite a few blue seats available on weekday games.
I think people will show up as long as Luka is here, but for the little that it's worth, I'm not buying until changes are made (had season tickets for 13 straight seasons at one point). I do pay 20 a month for Bally. Re-thinking that one as well...

Kenneth Faried looking to make it back to the NBA. Excellent rebounder who could help in that area. For a team that plays DFS a ton at the 4 and only really has McGee as a viable big man backup, it makes some sense.
Rumors of a Will Barton buyout, too. Would be a solid addition if only to fill some spots after a big trade?

I've always like Faried. His rebounding would definitely help which is more sad than anything.
I'd even take Dwight Howard. That's how bad the center position currently is.

My assumption is that we make the play-in.
Teams 7, 8, 9, 10 make it to the play-in, 5 more teams that won't. I'm just going to assume Spurs or Rockets don't make a miracle comeback so 13 teams going for 10 spots, but that still leaves 3 that won't make it.
Denver (top 6)
Memphis (top 6)
Sacramento (currently 3rd, could see them flaming out or staying, probably at worst play in)
New Orleans (top 6)
La Clippers (top 6)
then there's
us (currently 6th)
Phoenix
Minnesota
Golden State
Utah
Outside looking in:
OKC
Lakers
Portland
I'll just guess now that OKC and Portland don't make the play-in, so it then comes down to us or Lakers hoping one of the other teams get eliminated? Or maybe both of us make it. Endless possibilities, but we do have a pretty tough schedule. I calculated that 23 of our remaining 32 games are against teams with similar or better records than us.
