Nash mention
Phoenix after Nash
But management probably will be more realistic. Expect one of the Suns' top targets to be Mavericks point guard Steve Nash. His speed and playmaking skill would be a perfect fit for athletic big men Stoudemire and Marion -- provided Colangelo can outbid gazillionaire Mavs owner Mark Cuban.

And unlike Finley, I fully expect Nash to explore his options.

RE: Nash mention
I agree with you MP.
Nash has talked about playing for Toronto too much for my liking. It's like he's saying if the Mavs don't give everything I want, I can happily play for them.

RE: Nash mention
Only one way this happens:
Bye Bye Nash, Hello Marion or Stoudamire.
Dallas will probably not trade Nash for at least 2 or 3 years, but if they do, it's going to cost Pheonix more than they're willing to give. The only person they'd probably trade is McDyess.

RE:Nash mention
Nash13, Phoenix will have the cap space to sign Nash outright.
Phoenix waived Ward and likely will let McDyess walk when he becomes a free agent this summer. That will knock about $19 million off the payroll and, with the expiration of power forward Tom Gugliotta's contract, the team should be well below the salary cap.

It's a good city, he didn't leave on bad terms and they have money.

RE: Nash mention
Totally slipped my mind.
That would prove that something was definitely wrong with Maubury. Why would they trade a point guard, not necessarily better but has better numbers, if you're just going to sign another.
Also, unless Pheonix is willing to give Nash the full 10mil or something very close to it, it will come to a bidding war with Mark Cuban, and Coangelo won't win, i promise.
Also, they should be real conservative with that money. They need to think about in 2 or 3 years when Stoudamire becomes a free agent. Would they have money to resign him?

RE:Nash mention
MFF, you're depressing me, and for no good reason. It is almost incomprehensible that Steve would leave unless we just refuse to pay him. Does anybody really think there is even a remote possibilty that Mark will refuse to pay him? Please, for the love of my sanity and happiness, can we leave this stuff to the people in Phoenix?

RE:Nash mention
Thanks a bunch for posting that, MFF, you just ruined my buzz !
I think that things in Phoenix could play out much differently...they apparently like Barbosa a lot and if they can sign milos, they're probablt going to look at kobe first...
On a side note, I read that Phoenix is really happy with Lampe so far...the Knicks trade could end up working fairly well for the Suns with just a little luck....

RE: Nash mention
I don't mean to depress anyone, but I was talking with someone in a pm about this situation. Don't you remember all the talk Nash did about playing for Toronto? He did the usual, I'm happy here, wait till summer to make decisions, but yeah, I could play for Toronto.
Think about all the trade talk right now involving everyone but Dirk. Can Nash trust that Cuban won't trade him 2-3 years from now because of his age? People rag on Finley right now because of his age/contract. You don't think the same will happen with Nash?
And it's not all about money with Cuban. He seems to be interested in length of contract as well. He wouldn't give Bell or Griffin the extra year. And the FWST mentioned that the reason we didn't land Brad Miller in the off-season was because he wanted 7 years, and the Mavs would only agree to 6.

Did FWST really say that about Cuban and Brad Miller? That would be sad. Brad Miller would have been a great fit here.

RE: Nash mention
Here I thought Miller didn't come to Dallas because they didn't want to trade Nash. But it would make sense because Indiana only ended up getting Scott Pollard and Danny Ferry.

RE:Nash mention
Miller's base salary this year is 7 million. We would have had to trade somebody because all we had was the MLE, and everything I had read was that Indiana wanted Nash. That obviously would not have been worth it, I don't care how good Miller has looked this year.

Miller Mention
Here's the link. I don't have an acount so I can't view the archive now. I should have posted it when I could have, but didn't think it would get much attention here.
I copied/pasted as much as I could of what they did show.
Quote:
SACRAMENTO, Calif.--One more year on the contract and Brad Miller might have been the Mavericks' starting center. A key player in the Miller sweepstakes after the start of the free agency period, the Mavs fell just short in acquiring the former Indiana Pacers All-Star. The Mavs were willing to offer a six-year contract in sign-and-trade negotiations with the Pacers, sources said. Nick Van Exel would likely have been part of the deal. Sacramento agreed to seven

That makes me feel worse. Because he and Lafrentz were making the same dough. And Indiana probably would've took Lafrentz over Pollard.
Imagine this lineup if that would've happened:
Nash/Best/Daniels
Finley/Welsch/TAW
Jamison/Howard
Dirk/Fortson/Najera
Miller/Bradley
No Walker and NO DELK. Another reason for me to hate Don Nelson more.

RE:Nash mention
Well, I doubt they would have taken LaFrentz. Wouldn't have wanted his contract. In retrospect, though, I think if we could have gotten him for NVE that might have been worth it. At the time I would have been against such a move, but I didn't expect that Miller would come over to the Western Conference and actually play better than he had in the East. If you believe the quotes from Sacramento, they didn't really think he would be doind as well as he his either. Go figure.

RE:Nash mention
Nash says "Well yeah, maybe I'd go to Toronto...but Dallas is my priority" or something to that effect. Not to mention his good friend Nowitzki, his girlfriend whom he lives with, his brother playing soccer in Dallas, and a chance to get some money from Cubes.
Cuban says "I will do whatever it takes to keep Nash here." We all know Cuban hasn't been known to be tight with money.
I would be SHOCKED if Nash was somewhere other than Dallas next year. Unless some huge catastrophic feud takes place, his friends are here, his life is here, he has many, many fans here.
