That was dramatic...

Huge D down the stretch by the big German. Calderon with the timely threes. Good team effort to close it out through some adversity.

What a genuine pleasure it is to watch a living legend.
not a great night from Ellis, but another night of 10 dimes (1TO) is not to be overlooked.

with less than 10 to´s you simultaneously can afford to get outrebounded by 20...
only chance for mavericks to survive, taking rigorous care of that spalding

Good point, and 7 TO's is a vast improvement over what we've seen most of this season.
The rebounding was atrocious though - otherwise we probably blow out the Pelicans.

So what was the deal with blair starting? Is dally in the doghouse. I don't think blair blocks out so well.

Rick using the starting lineup to light a fire under Sammy's butt? He was much more active/productive in the 4th tonight.

Blair got 29 minutes to Dalembert's 19... I think Rick just saw something he liked with Blair, match-up-wise.
Although I thought Dalembert was a marginal improvement on the boards and defense tonight.

I think it had to do with Carlisle believing Blair could cover either Smith/Aminu/Anderson better than Dalembert could.

That is what I was curious about. It has always been sams mo to be unmotivated. In this locker room that can be a real problem. The mavs really need him to turn it around.

12-8 doesn't sound bad at all.
Not spectacular, but not disappointing either.
It only stings a little when you think that they should probably have won at least a couple more games.

I think the idea a few days ago of "If we lose our next game we're officially in panic mode" was pretty ridiculous to begin with... I'm happy as long as this team stays a few games over .500 between now and the end of the year so we can see what kind of possible roster tinkering we might need to do closer to the trade deadline. This team can compete with anyone as long as we shoot a reasonable percentage and minimize turnovers.
I get the feeling there will be a lot of dumpster fires in the East by the All-Star break, and we'll be one of the teams that's happy to take on some longer deals if it gives us quality upgrades.

Well said. +rep
At this point I'm more optimistic for the Mavs to make a "brilliant" trade at the deadline than talking a high value FA into coming to Dallas. Stick with what you're good at, MBT...make it happen via trade.

Yeah, I don't feel optimistic that we're going to be able to preserve enough cap space (like $16-18M or more) to lure one of the top-tier free agents here... I'd much rather try to offer a guy like Shane Larkin to see if we could get Horford if the Hawks decide they want to move him and Korver or something along those lines.

Did anyone else notice Carlisle pushing aside the assistant coach Kaleb Canales? He did it while stating a case to the ref. Thought it was funny.

I did catch that... I think we was demonstrating what he thought was Ryan Anderson swinging his elbows at Shawn.

Yup. If serious, it was very uncomfortable looking/embarrassing for the young guy getting pushed.
I hope it was just a demonstration as spree suggests, bc if not, it looked bad on Rick.

Agreed. His challenge of Eric Gordon's last-second drive was great too. EJ threw it up there like he couldn't even see the basket. Just a lot of fantastic team defense by Dirk tonight.

Joakim Noah wouldn't be a bad player to go after also if the Bulls really want to start over.

REALLLLLLY like this note from espn:
That was ... strategic. Coming out of dead-ball situations in which the Mavs had possession (start of the fourth quarter and timeouts), Rick Carlisle drew up plays resulting in scores on 9 of 10 possessions for 20 points.

I do not always grab rebounds. But when i do, I grab the important ones.
This was so typical. Dirk gets pushed around during the whole game and then when it really matters he gets the D rebound. What a troll.

I think VC breaking out of his funk is the big news of this game. Definitely would have lost of he was bricking more shots.
A solid win on a b2b.

2-0 on a b2b, first time this year and the Mavs already had 7 of them!

The Mavs are a lot better when they get help from Carter. His consistency has gone down the toilet, and he's pretty much the only offense off the bench. We should get a little help from Devin and more from Wright. But a trade for a true sixth man at the deadline would be fantastic...especially if he can also play good defense.
I love much of what Calderon brings in stability running the offense, but if every quick point guard is going to abuse him like Jrue Holiday did, we will have to come us with some defensive scheme to help him out. Maybe we end up starting Harris and using Calderon as a bench scorer. His defense would be less trouble against 2nd teamers

I could understand the trolling if we had the record of the Nets, but 12-8 isn't something to freak out about.
