Default stOOpid trade with Portland

Dallas trades:
C Evan Eschmeyer (1.0 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 0.4 apg in 7.9 minutes)
PG Nick Van Exel (12.5 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 4.3 apg in 27.8 minutes)
SG Michael Finley (19.3 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 3.0 apg in 38.3 minutes)
Dallas receives:
PF Al Harrington (12.2 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 1.5 apg in 30.1 minutes)
PF Austin Croshere (5.1 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 1.1 apg in 12.9 minutes)
PG Damon Stoudamire (6.9 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 3.5 apg in 22.3 minutes)
SF Ruben Patterson (8.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.3 apg in 21.2 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -0.3 ppg, +5.0 rpg, and -0.3 apg.

Indiana trades:
PF Al Harrington (12.2 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 1.5 apg in 30.1 minutes)
PF Austin Croshere (5.1 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 1.1 apg in 12.9 minutes)
Indiana receives:
PG Nick Van Exel (12.5 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 4.3 apg in 73 games)
Change in team outlook: -4.8 ppg, -6.5 rpg, and +1.7 apg.

Portland trades:
PG Damon Stoudamire (6.9 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 3.5 apg in 22.3 minutes)
SF Ruben Patterson (8.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.3 apg in 21.2 minutes)
Portland receives:
C Evan Eschmeyer (1.0 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 0.4 apg in 17 games)
SG Michael Finley (19.3 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 3.0 apg in 69 games)
Change in team outlook: +5.1 ppg, +1.5 rpg, and -1.4 apg.

Lets start off with why would Indiana do it? First off, they would save about 3 million alone by doing this as Croshere/Harrington are over 13 million combined and NVE only makes a tad over 10 million. Throw in the fact that they also get a stellar point guard in NVE and they got to offload Croshere's contract. They would lose Harrington in the deal, but I think they could live with it.

Why would Portand do it? Simple, they get rid of the Drug infested Damon Stoudemire, and the hot headed Patterson and to top it off they get a SG that was almost an allstar last year. Esch is a throw in.

Why would Dallas do it? They get defense in Patterson, a young PF stud in Harrington, a backup PG in Stoudemire that can light it up occastionally, and a big body in Croshere.

Sooooooooo How about this thought out trade?

Why Dallas would not do it?

Damon Stoudamire will be the last person mavs want on their team. It would be awfully stupid to give Nick away and not improve your front court much and also downgrade in the PG position.

Id do it. I wish we could coax the pacers into giving up bender but the trade makes us younger and perhaps more athletic.

This makes perfect sense harrington can play small forward also as well as being a good backup to Dirk. Croshere at one time had a great playoff in the first laker run to the title through the Pacers. Stoudamire has a huge contract some 87 million dollar deal, but he was at one time an elite pg, and might be perfect in nellie's system. Id probably rather waive patterson this guy has trouble written all over him hes as dumb as a rock. Nellie's comment rolled off the tongue.

If I can't get wallace then harrington , croshere and patterson would be a nice second prize.

You might have to take Miller instead of harrington and perhaps you could include bender into discussions.

Dallas would have to do this trade. They get a young stud in Harrington, who would be allowed to grow with Dirk to give the Mavs a feared front court. They would also significantly improve their team defense with the self proclaimed "Kobe Stopper", and Harrington. We would also get a point guard to take the place of NVE, and another good shooting big man.

Also, if the Mavs sign Daniels they would be building for the future while they also would be very competitive now.
