Default Isaiah Hartenstein - the next big thing from Germany

Thought i open a thread about this very rare talented kid from Germany. Wouldnt it be perfect to draft Dirks Replacement out of Germany who is playing a lot like Dirk himself when Dirk retires or is close to retire?

This Thread is also to follow his development over the next years.

www.nbadraft.net has him Nr.5 Overall in the 2017 NBA Draft as of now.

He is 17 years old 6'10, 230 lbs with a 7'0 ft wingspan.

NBA Comparison: Dirk Nowitzki

Strenghts: He has the perfect size for a modern NBA SF at 6’10’’ with a nice wingspan. Strong body with a great frame and still room for improvments ... He is very explosive in his moves to the basket, not averse to contact, he goes way above the rim to finish with powerful dunks ... Has a nice control of his body, which helps him a lot in transition to avoid charges utilizing Eurostep or spin moves ... A beast under the glass, he can push it in transition himself ... Perhaps the most encouraging thing is that he is rapidly becoming a much better shooter, with a soft and nice lefty touch, he can hit 3 pointers or step back on pull up jumpers ... He really has all that it takes to become a great player, a very rare talent who is talented and has great feeling for the game, and could have a immediate impact in the NBA in just 2 years ...

Overall: If you are looking for the next big thing coming out of Europe over the next years, a player who could have a huge impact in the NBA, look no further than Isiah Hartenstein of Germany who has become in a few short years the best prospect since Dirk ...

We probably would need a Top5 Pick though. But maybe he has some flaws or some Scouts do the usually bad euro scouting and he drops to a range where we could get him.

He is currently playing at the EURO U18 Championship.

Here are some recent highlights and game material. Really looks like Dirk that age.

Looks like Kevin Durant / Dirk Nowitzki mix. Not too shabby.

He isnt entering the Draft before 2017...my guess is he will register for the Draft in 2018.

Currently playing an average Under18 Championship.

If he keeps this improvement up he clearly will be a Top5 Pick like Hezonja.

Hartenstein may go away from Germany this summer to sign with the Spanish Top Team FC Barcelona in the ACB...wouldnt be that bad an idea to get developed by elite european players and staff but he may be a bit too young. Hes still underaged.

Apparently he wont be going to FC Barcelona but will decide between a German Div 1 or 2 Team.

He wants guaranteed playing time and Barcelona said there wont be playing time in their first team in the first two years.

In fairness, this video shows him playing against guys 2 ft shorter than him. He looks pretty slow to me.

I wouldn't compare him to hall of famers yet.

Hartenstein will sign with Zalgiris Kaunas, a European Topteam and talent forge.

He will play in Germany for another year (likely in the 2nd Division) and move in 2016/2017.

Smart move. The year gives him time to work on his weaknesses and get his body ready. He will be 18 (and an adult) when he moves to Lithuania. I can see him play there for 2-3 years if everything works out and than declare for the draft in 2018 or 2019.

Seems like a similiar move as guys like Hezonja did (Home League -> big european team -> NBA)

He is one of the most promising prospects in Europe. Hartenstein has a great skillset combined with excellent athleticism, a good frame and an outstanding court vision. He can use his 7-3 wingspan to protect the rim. He was on loan to Zalgiris Kaunas to play at the Adidas Next Generation Tournament where he led Zalgiris to the title and earned the MVP award.

Man among Boys. Has the complete Package. His development is going through the roof right now.

Really depends. He will likely enter in 2017.

Dirk will be 39 by than and likely retire or decline a lot.

We dont know how the squad will look like and what we can do. Could be that we are lottery bound.

His Mock Drafts go from 5-12 right now. A lot can happen. Injuries, Players rising and falling.

But you are right. The way he improved over the last months is shocking. If he keeps this up he could go Top5 no doubt.

This video is much more promising than that first one. Tall/White/German isnt enough for me to say he's the next Dirk though. But I like what I see.

Wow.... I don't think I have seen such talented German player since Dirk entered the stage. Of course it's too early to say if he has the potential to become a franchise player but it would be very nice to have Dirks potential successor playing in Dallas. Maybe Dirk can teach him a little bit how to shoot as well. On the other side, if he's really gonna be a Top5 pick I don't see how we can land him. Maybe via trade.

From that youtube video, his post play and passing really reminds me of Arvydas Sabonis.

But he's currently #6 for 2017 here:

And #11 here:
