Granted the Lakers are still the prohibitive favorites to win it all but look at this supporting cast.

Player.........FG%
Hunter.........39.2
Horry..........39.0
Fox............41.2
Fisher.........40.9
Walker.........49.1

Do any of these guys at 3,4,5,6, or 7 put a shiver up your back. This team truly is pathetic taking out Shaq and Kobe. Granted with them they are 2 time reigning champions. Regardless with the open shots they will get with Shaq and Kobe these shooting percentages are pathetic.

then again, samaki walker was the same guy who when he played for the mavs once took a jump ball and scored in the opponents goal.

Some of The Laker role players haven't been playing as well this year but don't be misled by the stats. They don't have to be big time scorers, Phil Jackson has assembled the right kind of role players for the team. The Lakers are basically Shaq,Kobe(Best center and 2 guard in the game respectfully) and a bunch of steady veterans who for the most part are capable of playing tenacious defense and shooting 3 pointers. They win with hellacious defense and their role-players ability to hit jump shots when Kobe and Shaq are swamped.

don't know if you're thinking of this, or if this is a totally separate occurrence, but samaki didn't score the bucket:

a player from the other team got the ball and attempted to score on the mavs basket (he was confused). samaki attempted to block the shot and fouled him! even though the bucket would have counted for the mavs!

Samaki did both of those things that season. He blocked the shot of a player shooting at the wrong basket AND scored one for the other team. Not in the same game. Samaki had his head up it that whole season. Nellie is thankful Samaki didn't sign that large contract that was offered.
