FML, Stein's newest podcast he talks about Ayton to the Mavs. He said it's a total hypothetical, but come on, there has been so much damn smoke with this. And Ayton and Luka share the same agent.
Whyyyyyyyyyyyy

Just filling the air. Tough time of the season to fill a full podcast without stoking some rumors.
It's one thing to use up over 25% of your cap on a big guy. One that cannot hang with the other bigs in your own conference, much less in the finals? Not a good recipe. Hopefully Nico and Cuban are not that dumb, but as I told EL, can't write it off unfortunately.

Except that he said he NEVER does hypothetical trades. Cato and TMac are other legit sources with this rumor. This isn't empty spitballing. Even if this is agent driven, well, when it's the same agent as Luka then you're taking it seriously.
Mavs desperately need a center. This is a Cuban move through and through.

What could we even offer that PHX would want to make the contracts work?

Hopefully nothing they want, but Stein said the 10th pick would be needed to make it work.
Hell no, but I feel it's already done by the way people like Chuck Cooperstein talk about it. Like they are grooming us for the inevitable.

Bertans and McGee works
Timmy and Kleber works
Kyrie would work with a third team
I wouldn't pull off a trade for Ayton even if it only cost us expiring contracts and no picks, though.
Ayton is not a basketball player. His rebounding in the playoffs was sub-Wood. He was out of position defensively as much as Wood. His offensive game is not that great and more than anything, he doesn't have the fire in his belly for basketball.
He was just tall in the Bahamas so they trained him to go through the motions so he did and got paid for it, but he's not someone who leaves his blood, sweat, and tears on the court.
