The lid is finally off the 2011-2012 NBA season, and MOR is here to break it down. So much to get into, so little time. This episode kicks off the season by catching everyone up on the moves made by the Mavs thus far, reviewing the ins and outs of the new CBA, and getting into the compressed 66-game schedule that the Mavericks will have to navigate in a brief 120-day season. And, we bring back our NBA Nuggets segment, running through our favorite notes from around the NBA.
Bob Sturm of The Ticket joins us to break down acquisitions of Vince Carter and Lamar Odom, and to discuss his new book about the Mavericks' storybook 2011 Championship season: This Year Is Different.
14-year NBA veteran, former Dallas Maverick, and current Mavericks Assistant Coach Darrell Armstrong joins us in the second hour to discuss his tutelage of Rodrigue Beaubois and some of the other younger members of the Mavericks' current roster.
It's a super-sized show that only begins to set the table for what is sure to be a thrilling, fast-paced title defense for the 2011-2012 Dallas Mavericks. Listen, enjoy, and catch us next week as we return to our weekly format and start to break down the Mavericks' new season in detail.

BG, what's up with Dirk's knees? The other night he had a sleeve on his left one and Followell commented during the first quarter that when Dirk went to the bench Casey was looking at his right knee and Dirk was talking to him about it......

What's up with Kidd's knees.
Before season he said, he feels young and can play, but he looks slow and after last game Jason had ice on knees.

They are going to have ice on their knees all season at this pace. There will also be quite a few injuries.

Tonight's episode has been published... hopefully you've suscribed via iTunes or RSS already and you'll get it in the morning. If not.. get it here: http://ballinwithbryan.podomatic.com.
My apologies for there not being a recorded video stream this week - I had some equipment issues. I noticed our recorded video views were way up last week, so we appreciate those of you listening/watching through that medium as well.
Be sure to holler if you have any feedback.
----------------------------------------
Six games into 2011-2012, and it's starting to feel like a real NBA season. The Mavs just wrapped up a stretch of four games in five nights, so there is plenty of basketball to break down.

It's a heavy week for NBA Nuggets, as players around the league drop like flies and bad situations start to make themselves apparent. And as always, we talk about what to expect in the upcoming week, as the Mavs hit another 5-games-in-7-days stretch.
Intro - Game Recaps: PHX, @SA, NO

This week finds the Mavs having taken advantage of weaker teams on the schedule, gutting up for a tough win in Boston, and beginning to form a more cohesive defensive identity.
Jeff "Skin" Wade of ESPN 103.3 FM and the Mavs TV broadcast joins us to break down the role development of Lamar Odom and Vince Carter, and discuss a potential turning point for Dirk.
We break down the Mavs' 3 point loss versus the Lakers in detail, take an abbreviated turn at NBA Nuggets, and preview the four games on the Mavs' schedule for the upcoming week.

The big news in Mavs land is obvious this week - Dirk being shut down temporarily to work on strength and conditioning for a bothersome knee as the Mavs wrapped up their first major road trip of the year.
ESPN's Marc Stein joins us this week, giving his thoughts on Dirk, the outstanding play on Shawn Marion, and the requisite commentary on the Mavs potential pursuit(s) of Dwight Howard and/or Deron Williams.
With Vince Carter nursing a sprained foot, two new topics of import have arisen - more court time for Roddy Beaubois, and more three-guard lineups from Mavs' coach Rick Carlisle.
Intro - Game Recaps: @LAC, @UTA
19:03 - Shutting Down Dirk
27:42 - Game Recaps: @NO, PHX
53:18 - Marc Stein of ESPN.com Discusses Dirk, Shawn Marion, and the Dwight/D-Will Sweepstakes

We're one-third of the way through the lockout-shortened NBA season. Join us as we evaluate where the Mavs stand so far. Bryan takes us back for a classic MOR segment - Buy, Sell, or Hold. We' debate the merits of a smooth shooting PF project versus an above-the-rim PF/C, and run through a quick NBA Nuggets segment where Bryan drops a bomb of unbelievability regarding LeBron James.
The previous week's games provide tons of material - losing Jason Kidd, bringing back Dirk and VC, Roddy on the rise, and a game against San Antonio that ranks as one of the wildest regular season games in recent memory.
Intro - Game Recaps: MIN, UTA
24:35 - How Does Dirk Look, Game Recaps: SA, @PHX
39:45 - Buy, Sell, Hold (Roddy Results, J Kidd Durabillity, A Trade, Whitest Team Ever, Odom)

1:26:14 - NBA Nuggets: LBJ Back to CLE?, As Orlando Turns, Poor Bogut

I didn't understand the host saying Roddy sounded like a French Gigolo but after seeing this video , I understand now. Is there a locker room movement to pronounce Lamar's name like Roddy does in that video?

My here-to-fore perfect iMac decided to crash for only the second time ever.. while open with a giant chunk of application data (2 hours of podcast) in one of the few applications that doesn't auto-save.. on the same week I forgot to start a UStream recording the video (thus creating a backup of the audio in real-time).
So yeah. 2 is 1 and one is none.

It survived!!!
Fun show tonight...I really enjoyed hearing the thought process that went into the crew's non-Mavs roster they'd want to roll with.
With a light preview coming next week, I think we'll definitely be digging in on the potential playoff picture that's coming.
Hope you guys enjoy the episode.

Excellent podcast guys. It really helps to keep those in the know about the Mav's who don't live around the Dallas area.
I do have a question though! What song is that at 1:28:24?
Thanks and keep up the good work.
Edit: Ok I listened a little more and it's Hydroponic Sound System?

I'll check - 1:28:48 on the ustream feed?
Wouldn't surprise me if it's HSS; we've gotten feedback from several folks b/c it's not immediately identifiable hip-hop and damn good. Skin and another guy (Ruben Alaya) put the tracks together and have other guys rap on them. Most of what you hear from them on MOR is from 2002-3, give or take. I'll check on it and let you know exactly which track it is.
Thanks for the positive feedback on the show, we appreciate it. The quantity of games per week this year has made it tougher to get into deep/Mav-geeky topics as much as we'd like, so it's good to hear good things.

Guys I really can't thank you enough for doing this show. You are my no.1 source of information regarding the mavs and other informations around basketball. Overseas the informations are almost non-existent. And besides that, it's always more exiting to get the news presented through mavs-coloured-glasses
Thanks again and keep up the good work =)
