I guess it's safe to say he's the most skilled center the Mavs have ever had though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_91Y0LVXRBo

Well here's to hoping our 2nd is like the Zaza 2nd and with protections it is "air". I was hoping that when the dust settles and the protections are ironed out we are trading air but getting bogut and a 2nd, not just bogut. Otherwise why would they throw in a meaningless heavily protected 2nd?

Is that the definition of a fake trade? Much more pleased to read that though. In no way should we have ended up giving up a pick in that trade, as insignificant as it might be.

I'm not sure we have to send anything, we're sending them our cap space that we have.

Pretty sure the most "cash" you can send in a trade is $3.5m.

There needs to at least be something of value traded. Cap space isn't viewed as an asset, by rights to a second rounder who has no chances of making the league works

Per year, AKA the "screw Mark Cuban" rule in the new CBA
Interesting that Singh got a DNP today? Maybe his rights are changing hands.

Obviously a practical asset as well as a TPE, but there needs to be some value traded. Even if it's the rights to Peteri Koponen. Those details don't usually come out for weeks, though.

This is old but it still applies, we just have to send GS a trade exception for the amount of Bogut's contract. NY sent us a trade exception for Tyson and it's happened numerous other times.
When Golden State traded Jason Richardson to Charlotte on Draft Day last season, the Warriors received a $10 million trade exemption from making the deal. What does that mean and how does a team get a trade exemption?
Speiser: This is an example of creating a trade exception in a “non-simultaneous” transaction, as described above. When that occurs, you have up to one year from the original trade to utilize the exception.
SIXERS.COM NOTE: In the Golden State/Charlotte scenario… the Bobcats had the requisite cap space to absorb Jason Richardson’s contract without trading back equal salary to the Warriors; Golden State therefore received a trade exception for the disparity in salary from the trade

We have to give compensation. But if we give a pick, and even though the conditions are super strict, it still counts as compensation. Say we send GS a 2017 second rounder and it only transfers if it is the 60th pick, we have given compensation according to the league.
And I would be stoked to pay that price

I see what you guys mean you have to give SOMETHING, even draft rights to a player that will never come from overseas. Forgot about that stipulation. I don't consider it a big worry though that's one thing Mavs are good at is stuff like that.

Are we seriously trading away Singh for Bogut? That's like negative 1.2 billion jersey sales!

Considering how this move helped the Warriors get Durant I think we were at least owed a 1st rounder.

The thing was there was going to be some team that wanted Bogut at 12 million on the last year of his contract if not us. I don't think we had the leverage to demand a 1st round pick.
Besides a GS 1st round pick will probably be #30 anyway, almost a 2nd rounder.

how is the pick and roll defense going to look like with Dirk and Bogut? They are both not very mobile. I think Dirk worked well with someone like Tyson and Bogut with someone like Draymond. I can't imagine them working well together on D.

There were several teams that would have done the deal as it sat. Houston springs to mind

So our 2nd rounder had more value to GSW than other teams' 2nd rounders?

I think it was the fact that GS liked Bogut and wanted to trade him somewhere he wanted to go to which seems to have been Dallas. If Dallas refused though there were other teams they could have traded him to for sure.

Watkins-
Rockets made a late push to trade for Warriors center Andrew Bogut according to a source. Currently Clint Capela is the starting center but that could change. There is only so much the Warriors could take back in terms of salary from the Rockets to make the deal work according to another source.

GS sent us the draft pick. Mavs got Bogut and their 2nd round draft pick. GS got cap space to sign Durant.

In the end, Barnes helped us net Bogut. Because GS couldve chosen another team. Makes sense that we couldnt demand a 1st. Established centers are tough to find.
