That's the debate and that's what the media have questioned along with the announcers who called the game.
I think they should have doubled. That's what I always think in that kind of situation.
But I also agree with Simon2 - they could have doubled and still lost, and that would have been questioned. "Resulting" is what fans and announcers do.

Also, there are other factors involved, bigger than the outcome of a single regular season game.
