Default #3 Louisville @ #15 Rutgers for Big East Championship?

No. 3 Louisville (8-0) at No. 15 Rutgers (8-0), 7:30 pm EST, Thursday

PISCATAWAY, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Third-ranked Louisville hopes to get the better of an unbeaten Big East Conference rival for a second Thursday in a row when it visits No. 15 Rutgers in the Scarlet Knights' biggest game in nearly 140 years.

Last Thursday, the Cardinals (8-0, 3-0 Big East), then ranked fifth, played just enough defense to defeat then-No. 3 West Virginia in Louisville, 44-34.
Brian Brohm completed 19-of-26 passes for 354 yards and a touchdown for Louisville, which held just a 16-14 lead early in the third quarter before scoring on a 13-yard fumble return and a 40-yard punt return. The Cardinals led comfortably thereafter to move to 8-0 for the first time since 1925.
Louisville's win reduced the number of undefeated teams in Division I-A to five, and that number will shrink by one for a second consecutive Thursday after the latest Big East clash.

While last week's game was arguably the biggest home contest in Louisville's history, this one will be the most important game for Rutgers since 1869, when it beat Princeton, 6-4, in the first college football game. This will be the first time in Scarlet Knights history that they will play a game in which both teams are ranked.

Rutgers (8-0, 3-0) has not played since beating Connecticut, 24-13, on October 29. Heisman Trophy candidate Ray Rice suffered an ankle injury and was limited to 79 rushing yards and a touchdown, but he is expected to be fine for Thursday's clash.

In an intriguing contrast, the Scarlet Knights rank second in the nation in total defense (223.4 yards per game) and third in scoring defense (8.6 points), while the Cardinals are second in total offense (492.63) and fourth in scoring offense (39.38).

The Scarlet Knights won the series' first four meetings before getting routed last year, 56-5, in the first matchup as Big East opponents.
The teams will be meeting here for the first time since 1984.

FOR VBOOKIE.....
I am going to add 2.5 points to Rutgers score. RUTGERS WILL BE GETTING 2.5 points at HOME.

If you think Louisville will win by 2.5 points or more bet for them. If not bet for Rutgers. Louisville will need to win by 3 or more for this bet.

25-25... if Rutgers wins this, they deserve a chance at the national championship IMO.

Louisville could lose votes even if they win this game... They have no business being mentioned with Ohio State, Michigan, and some of the 1 loss teams around the country.

Rutgers is a darned fine team but they will not sniff the title game if they win. They will be guaranteed a BCS game however and I would not be surprised if they won it.

If Louisville wins....they remain #3 this week and then move up after Michigan-Ohio State play each other. Prepare yourself for an OSU/Michigan-Louisville National Championship game.

Why? Could you not read an if/then statement? Care for a do-over on your post?

Wow. Louisville just screwed themselves out of overtime.

Wow Rutgers just pulled off a huge upset. This gives A LOT of teams a chance at the national championship. Texas? Florida? USC? Rutgers?

All of those except Rutgers. They will not sniff the title game.

I don't see why Rutgers shouldn't be given an chance at the title game? They're undefeated and just beat the #3 ranked team. I know they probably won't have a chance though, just goes to show how screwed up the BCS system is.

It is a flawed system my friend. And I doubt anyone would disagree.

Yes, but you can't judge a team that has gone undefeated while another team has already met their match.

Why not?

Texas is clearly a different team than the one that struggled to score versus tOSU in week 2. Yet they should be written off eventhough Ohio State has been a consensus #1 from the jump?

And it's almost impossible to get through the SEC without a loss - so you penalize them for being a superior conference - producing multiple teams that could win the WAC, or the MAC, or the Mountain West.

What's the incentive for Conferences to produce great squads?... For powerhouse programs schedule games vs other powerhouses? It'll be a crime if Boise St. or Rutgers even sniffs the MNC.

Even though they would undoubtedly appreciate the chance, even the Rutgers guys would tell you that Texas would killl them on the field.
