14-7: Mavs cant crash the boards anymore
Offensive rebounds
Missed layups
cant buy a bounce
burned by a SG
And what happened the last 30secs....
And Dick is still a Dick

I don't understand this thread title - we only got out-rebounded by 4...

This is simply what happens when a jump shooting team hits a bit of a slide. We have 0 guys other than Dirk that can get to the free throw line with any regularity.
The Mavs played great defense, but just couldn't get their jumpshots to fall. It's just the way it goes.

Ugly loss, but no reason to complain.

It wasn't a rebounding problem AT ALL. Turnovers and missed execution is a huge problem. Most of the turnovers lately have been because RoBo/Barea/Gooden trying to do way too much, instead of just making the simple play. Execution has been laccking because the team is 3 point happy. They have settled for way too much.

Taking ill-advised jumpers when your shot is cold is a lot like trying to dig yourself out of a hole...
We really need more points in the paint!

It was one factor of a lot (you named them). I put it in the title because its a really annoying trend that the other team get offensive rebounds in good double digits.

Absolutely. Gooden was providing that but it seems like he really is out of whack coming off the bench. He doesn't play with near the energy he does when he's starting. Really disappointing.

Back to back extremely frustrating losses. Its not time to panic yet still being 4th seed in the west missing our 2nd best offensive weapon, but we need a healthy Josh back very soon. The amount of games this team just completely loses its offense is very alarming.
I am starting to become very agitated by these seemingly more frequent games of being out rebounded. Jkidd, Marion, Dirk, Damp led team should not be out rebounded this often.
One last point, what was up with Roddy not playing tonight? I missed the first 2 minutes of the game, was he sick or just Rick teaching the Rookie a lesson?

not to mention that the additions of Marion and Gooden were to make us the greatest rebounding team ever.

Time to start Gooden and Beaubois again. That lineup worked.

Speaking of Marion, he looks horrid. He's played good defense but he's absolutely dreadful offensively, and he can't grab rebounds this year. I'm guessing lost athleticism and injuries have really hampered him in that area. From what we've seen this season, this version of the Matrix is a pretty average basketball player.

I am not sold Shawn is healthy. He was amazing in the pre season in very limited minutes. Then he hurt the calf, and then the ankle. I bet you if Josh was playing, Matrix would be the would sitting right now.

Marion's ankle injury has an effect on his "lift." Dirk rarely rebounds well when he is battling ankle problems.
And when you play zone, you tend to give up rebounds because you can't put a body on your man.
But rebounding was not the issue tonight. Lack of execution was the issue. The two free throws missed by Kidd. Dirk's missed layups. Those were the type of plays that cost the Mavs the game.

Marion has been an offensive non-factor most of the regular season after a terrific pre-season. There's no way to convince me the injury doesn't have SOMETHING to do with that.

We need Josh. And to think that people were saying how Josh was expendable only a few games ago? We need another scorer, we need another wing defender, and we need a decent rebounder, and we need a good 3PT shooter. Josh can at least do 3 of those 4 things, so the sooner the better.
What was with the tight rotation this game? No Humphries for the few games, no Roddy in this game until he was in situationally late, no Singleton. Instead, we play Dirk for all but 4 minutes on the second night of a back-to-back, in which he played a lot in.

we'll keep saying this as long as we're relying on Josh to be all this. Right now, he's giving us typical Josh. And he'll continue to do that until he decides to get back on the court and give us actual production for the first half of games. Then he'll do some stupid stuff during crunch time in the playoffs.

The most ridiculous thing is Dirk was +3 in the 44 minutes. The Hawks outscored us by 8 in the four minutes Dirk wasn't on the floor. We're becoming dangerously dependent on him. Getting Josh back will certainly alleviate at least some of that.

If we keep letting other teams' wings score 40 on us and keep giving up 20 offensive rebounds while scoring 75 ppg, we aren't going to be in the playoffs. So what choice do we have? Pay Josh to go away like Williams? I don't think so. We don't have a choice but to hope Josh gets back soon and rely on him to do all the stuff we know he can do when he's mind is in the game.

F Jet for taking 8 threes. Most of the ill-advised.
F JJ for his defense and TO's
F TT for his 4 TO's
F Carlisle for not playing Roddy after one of his best games and instead going with Barea after one of his worst.
F the Mavs training staff. I mean really Ross and Howard are still out
and F the refs

We dicked ourselves. Just the refs put the dagger in.
Im probably over reacting because I was thinking that Texas was gonna lose but than robbed that game from Nebraska (wanted TCU to get into BCS). Then this game pissed me off further. If Florida won today, I probably would have torn my house down.
Still this is consecutive games with pathetic play from the Mavs.

Give Marion more credit. If he hadn't gotten in foul trouble, the Mavs might have won this. His offense is still struggling but his defense was huge. And even offensively, he was making things happen. Marion needed to be on the floor more. He seemed to be the key to the Mavs game plan and things happened when he was out there.
By the way... what's up with no Beabois tonight? Carlisle made him the goat for the loss the night before? Ridiculous. He was not the problem.

He was 1-6 in field goals in the 4th quarter. Fans can close one eye and squint the other and focus on any one factor other than the Mavs (ooh, those refs, ooh that unforseen injury!), but this was a winnable game, and the Mavs that played didn't perform as well as they can. When you score 75 points, it's a team effort.

He hit 3 of them. That's a nice 38% clip. If JET shot 38% from 3 at the end of the season, I would quite happy with him. Its better than he shot last year. Taking 8 threes wasn't the problem. If you want to blame JET, don't blame him for the quantity of his threes. Blame him for the quality, whether they were good shots. (you did mention that they were ill-advised; that's a legit complain. Taking 8 threes, that's not, because JET hit a decent percentage of them.

Then so be it. You want to cut Josh? Trade him for garbage? Do you think this team is better without a career 15 PPG, 6 RPG player? Who, I might add, isn't a bad wing defender, the position at which opposing players are lighting us up at.
I understand why a lot of people hate Josh here. I get that. He's a knucklehead who's hardly ever done anything for this team in key situations (4th quarter, playoffs, big games). He went out and did some stupid crap a few years ago, and that doesn't exactly make him likable.
But he's talented guy who gives us strength in some areas we're really lacking in right now. You're acting like you think this team is better off without him. Seriously? In theory, when everyone is healthy, Josh won't be in a position to disappoint. But screw theories. We've lost 2 straight on quite pitiful performances by the Mavs. I think J-Ho would help us. I want him back.

Why isn't anyone talking about that blown handoff between Dirk and Kidd that ended up costing us the chance to even try to hoist up a game tying shot? That was pretty bad. A Hawk might have got their hand in there to dislodge it, but still, how do you mess that up? That's the type of thing that was really unbelievable. Sure, the refs screwed up a little bit after that, but you know, its our fault for blowing the chance we had previously got to tie the game.
