NBA History
Luka Doncic is the first player in NBA history to total 225+ points, 50+ rebounds, and 50+ assists over a 5 game span.

In one of the weirdest players of the week:
Luka doncic and Kristaps Porzingis take the honor
Luka 49pts, 13reb, 11ast, 2stl
KP with 25pts, 9reb, 3blk
Two players who were on the same team last year. One of whom DOUBLED the PER of the other.

Funny that KP gets player of the week without Beal playing 3 of those 4 games.
Luka often gets criticized that he can't pay with another star, and yet I think that truth might lie with KP.
KP shot 25% from three for December and was 0-5 from Deep last night. Not missed.

Luka Doncic is the December Kia NBA Western Conference Player of the Month.
Doncic, who earns the honor for the third time in his career, averaged 35.1 points (51.9 FG%, 42.4 3FG%), 8.5 rebounds, 9.3 assists, 1.6 steals and 36.3 minutes in 15 games in December. It marked the highest-scoring month in franchise history (min. 10 games played) and the Mavericks went 11-4 in his 15 appearances during the month (11-6 overall). The reigning two-time Western Conference Player of the Week scored 30-plus points in 12 of his 15 games in December, including 50-plus points on three occasions. Doncic also notched three of his eight triple-doubles during the month.

I don't feel Luka needs a super team to win a ship unlike some players. We just need a few upgrades to the roster, trade or two maybe. I hope they keep Wood but so far I don't have a lot of confidence.

I feel the same.
One decent rebounding center and another guard who can create his own shot should be enough.
It will be tough to beat Luka in a 7 game series anyway. Ask the Suns!😬

Agreed. I also think that with Luka's ball dominance, we wouldn't see as much of a benefit from pursuing stars. Would another star be good? Maybe. Can we afford to buy a star? Probably not. I think the smarter call is to get good role players who Luka can make better.
OFFENSE - 6th in the league is good enough to win it all. 1st in fewest TOs is godly. The only issues are:
1) We need to give Luka more breaks
2) We see times like in the first half of the Rockets where Luka is just bad/frustrated. A committee of Walker/Frank/Wright obviously did not get it done. If Luka comes out bad, he should get some rest so he can dominate in the second half.
DEFENSE - NBA rule changes have hamstrung defenses so it's understandable we'd see a drop, but even compared to other teams, we are mediocre at 17th place. That is not going to get it done. Every team goes cold, but our mediocre defense means that when we go cold, we lose 10-20 points on our opponent.
REBOUNDING - Mavs are dead last and only rebounding 47.6% of available boards and we are losing the rebounding battle by 4.6 rebounds a game. Giving the opponent five more shots is just making the game so much harder than it should be. McGee in theory should have helped. Doncic is the most dominant PG in the league in rebounding. Wood is 14th among PFs in rebounding.
Our problem is that our rebounding from the center spot is just trash (Powell is 54th among Cs and beaten out in rebounding by most second-stringers. McGee is unplayable. Kleber is 69th among centers which makes him dead last in the league, Wood is a decent PF but not a center)
If we can get a decent big to anchor the defense and lose the rebounding battle by a little less and a guard to smooth out the cold spots in offense, then we could be REALLY good. We don't have much to offer, but that's not too far off from being at least a first round threat. Right now, though, playoff defenses are going to frustrate Luka and we dont have the control of the defense/boards to tread water nor the ability to mix it up when Luka gets frustrated.

We are all about to see why Luka is the best player in the game. He is about to take what we know as his basketball style and completely shift to fit this new look and flow with the emergence of Josh, Hardy and addition of Kyrie.

Championship incoming, or as another friend put it, a Spieth like lull in career lol happy for the kid. He seems to have had a bunch going on personally and seems super happy per pics.

He woulda been MVP last season if the FO knew how to put talent around him and Brunson not walking for nothing.

MVP means nothing to the Mavericks if he's whining and pouting the whole year instead of playing both ends of the court.

Here's the highlights. Luka looks like he's ready to utterly own the NBA. Carlisle predicted Luka will be MVP this year. If the Mavs can manage to win 50 games or more, I think he probably will.

If you didn't watch the highlights btw, Luka not only put up a 30 pt triple double, he also hit the game-winning 3.

things i liked: obviously leaner, and more fast up and down the floor on fast breaks too, passing was crisp
things i didnt like: missed 2 free throws late to put the game away, and he still went for the stepback 3. It went in, but how many times didnt it last year.

FTs will be an issue.
clutch plays? Kyrie is the best in the league in clutch situations. 67.4% TS in the clutch last year. If we can either give it to Kyrie or train Luka to play with the rest of the team and only take stepbacks when he needs to, then we can be fine.
Hell, maybe Kyrie gets the roll at the point and Luka can work in the post. He was absolutely lethal from 5-15'

Little brother. Even baby Luka is above Booker in the Doncic family

Great Luka interview by JJ Reddick on YouTube...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRDfUtFo8gk
JJ: How did you learn to decel
Luka: Well I'm already going slow, and when I'm tired I just go a little bit slower.
JJ: You're sick fuck

Poor JJ. He's like "How did you learn this and that? What drills did you use?"
And Luka goes: "I never practiced that."
But one can at least see how JJ adores Luka. JJ likes him and was honored to have him on the show.
