Default rasheed deal close???

FROM FRIDAY MORNINGS PORTLAND OREGONIAN

The trade talks involving the Trail Blazers are no longer speculation. Owner Paul Allen on Thursday acknowledged rumors that the team is considering a trade are true and current, as evidenced by his 30-minute meeting with team president Steve Patterson and general manager John Nash during the third quarter of the Blazers' 105-96 loss to the Phoenix Suns at the Rose Garden.

After the game, Allen said he is contemplating whether he should pull the trigger on a proposed trade.

"Trade. Not to trade. I don't know," Allen said before walking out of the arena.

Patterson was equally elusive, saying, "We talked about all kinds of things . . . but I'm not going to talk about it."

No member of Blazers management would confirm the proposed trade, but sources in Dallas say that the deal involves Rasheed Wallace going to the Mavericks for forward Antawn Jamison and injured guard/forward Tariq Abdul-Wahad.

If the deal were to include Abdul-Wahad, it would seem to meet Mavericks owner Mark Cuban's criterion that a trade with Portland be a "sweetheart of a deal," because Abdul-Wahad is damaged goods. The 6-foot-6 Wahad is to make $28 million in the next four seasons, but he has not played this season because of a left knee injury that caused him to miss 67 games last season.

Another rumored trade has Wallace going to the Mavericks for Jamison, Tony Delk and Eduardo Najera.

Dallas coach and general manager Don Nelson told the Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram late Thursday that he had not heard of a trade for Wallace being finalized.

This poses an interesting question. When does a trade thread merit being moved to the Mavericks forum?

Good question. We've sort of used the trade forum to discuss anything acquisition-related, but I don't have a problem with leaving this thread open if you want to discuss it here as well, as long as we don't get 5 threads here talking about it.

People in Dallas may not be talking about this deal, but I think it's a lot more legit than a lot of people want to believe. I expect this thing to happen soon. The only question is who stays and who goes, in my mind.

It seems odd that the Portland papers keep saying that Rashweed is coming to Dallas, yet all the mavs decision makers say the opposite. Now, I do expect that Don et al will not be that honest (as far as trades go) in his comments, yet from the tone of Nellie's comments, coupled with the tone of mark's comments, lead me to believe this will NOT go down.

Of course, if TAW comes off the IR (noone on IR can be traded) than there will be a huge clue...

As for me, although I am intriqued by Rashweeds clear talent, I am also realistic that Rashweed has wasted that talent so far...why would his stripes chage just by becoming a mav? Most importantly all the mavs have said that what the team needs is a worker bee, clearly not the type of player Rashweed is.

Now if we were talking Dale Davis for TAW I wouldn't hesitate...but that's dreaming.

Sheed coming to Dallas is definitely not the solution. Sheed has acustom to hanging out at the 3 pt lines nowaday. When he's coming to Dallas, they guy will be out there even more since Nellie encouraging it. Also, If Sheed is here and he decided not to stay with Dallas after the season. We will lost AJ and TAW for nothing, except gaining the cap room which we are way over regardless of Sheed's contract.

Personally, I rather see Theo Ratliff or Brian Grant come here or any blue collar players to surround the big 3.

Portland Trades:
Wallace

Portland Gets:
T-Mac
Abdul-Wahad

Dallas Trades:
Jamison
Abdul-Wahad

Dallas Gets:

Orlando Trades:
T-Mac

Orlando Gets:
Antawn Jamison

Not true. You can trade any player from the Injured List at any time. It is no more than a Reserve List these days, doesnt really guarantee there is an injury of any kind.

I can't even believe that one. From everything I've seen, Portland seems to be holding this thing up because they're not happy with the offers they're getting, but they make out like freaking bandits on that one. A talented head case for one of the Top 5 players in the league and all they have to do is take on TAW's contract? Outside of Orlando not doing it unless they could unload Hill's contract, if this were even an option Portland would've accepted it 10 minutes before it was even offered. Hell, if Orlando wants AJ that badly I'll give them AJ and Fin for TMac and leave Portland out of the damn thing.

I find this hard to believe from Orlando's viewpoint, but it works on RealGM

Dallas trades: SF Antawn Jamison (15.8 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.0 apg in 30.1 minutes)
SF Tariq Abdul-Wahad (15.8 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.0 apg in 30.1 minutes)
Dallas receives: SF Rasheed Wallace (16.8 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 2.7 apg in 38.6 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +1.0 ppg, +0.1 rpg, and +1.7 apg.

Orlando trades: SG Tracy McGrady (25.7 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 5.8 apg in 39.5 minutes)
Orlando receives: SF Antawn Jamison (15.8 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.0 apg in 38 games)
Change in team outlook: -9.9 ppg, +0.2 rpg, and -4.8 apg.

Portland trades: SF Rasheed Wallace (16.8 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 2.7 apg in 38.6 minutes)
Portland receives: SF Tariq Abdul-Wahad (15.8 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.0 apg in 38 games)
SG Tracy McGrady (25.7 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 5.8 apg in 38 games)
Change in team outlook: +8.9 ppg, -0.3 rpg, and +3.1 apg.

TRADE ACCEPTED

Due to Dallas, Orlando, and Portland being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is

Yeah, this trade looks like complete bull.
T-Mac is a Superstar and brings in crazy money.
Orlando will get a top 5 pick in the draft next year. Add Another Mid 1st Rounder from Portland to that and maybe thats what they are thinking about?
David Aldrige is probably just getting this out of nowhere. There is no way this is being considered.

Oh...and 413...it was dated YESTERDAY and not today.

Here's the text...

Jan. 15 - The Orlando Sentinel reports the Blazers called the Magic about a McGrady-for-Rasheed Wallace swap. GM John Gabriel denied McGrady was on the block. McGrady's response to the rumor? "I don't believe any of that, but I did hear the Rasheed rumor," McGrady said. "I think there would be a lot of disappointed Orlando fans if that happened." No kidding.

This is getting as bad as it was back in the summer when we all were chasing every Mavs/Blazers trade for Sheed morsel of gossip, just before the GS trade was made.

Where is that old thread? Can't we just dump all of these assorted posts in that thread?

413, weren't you the guy reporting a sure Blazers trade this summer? Hmmmm....

Also, as a side note, if T-Mac were available for Jamison and a first rounder, I think we could make the pot sweeter than that...

Thank goodness we arent the only team being played by the media. Im glad the media is also making T-Mac feel a little uncomfortable too.

Denver may be jumping into the fray for Wallace.....

The Rocky Mountain News reports the Nuggets could have serious interest in making an offer to Rasheed Wallace this summer:
Vandeweghe can't comment on impending free agents, but it's known the Nuggets will take a long look at New Jersey restricted free agent Kenyon Martin. Then there's Portland's unrestricted Rasheed Wallace, the most talented big man who will be available.

Insiders say the Nuggets will consider looking at Wallace despite all the chaos he has created on and off the court. But it would be a situation where team officials would need to sit down and talk at length with him.
The reporters in Dallas took the day off from reporting on trades, but we'll keep our eyes on the wire and report any trade news the minute it breaks.

question: You have kindhearted Nene, why do you want Rasheed Wallace?
answer: You dont. the Rocky Mountain News is another crappy rag involved in speculation and assumption.

Hardly. Nene will play center. Wallace could play PF or vice versa (the nuggets are also hot on KMart in the offseason). Before you bash the RMN, at least understand them. Clearly, you do not. For the record, a former colleague of mine who writes for the RMN online system sent me an email about the Nuggets interest. He very much has access to the team. You can take what he says to the bank as he isn't one to bullsh*t his way through his day.

There's also a world of difference between signing him as a FA this summer...and trading for him now AND GIVING UP PLAYERS TO GET HIM.

I should have restated it: they have Camby and Nene, why do they want Rasheed? they DO have a lot of cash around and they are going to have to compete with Phoenix and Utah for the elite FAs so any elite FA is on their list Im sure (except maybe Kobe who Coloradoans hate more than the average fan base)
