Indeed we did.
We got ourselves a young 2 who can score and create his own shot. Just what the doctor ordered.

My source is awesome. I guess they decided this was too good to pass up vs the alternative to the unknown with amnesties.

Well, looks like it was a multi-year deal.

Kaman
Dirk
Marion
Mayo
Collison
That is a really, really good starting lineup. Not Heat good, or Thunder good, but very good.
And it doesn't account for guys like Brand on the bench who are easily starting caliber still.

We have two second rounders that may make the team:
Crowder - seems like a perfect fit at PF/SF
Bernard James - Would they really leave a 27y/o in Frisco all year?
So that's 10 on the roster, and 2 on the fringe.
Brand is a perfect fit at PF/C.
I'm starting to question Delonte's fit with Jones and Collison on the team. Almost feels like a shooter would be a better fit. Collison and Roddy are already waterbug types that are going to specialize in getting into the lane.
What would you guys do with the open spots? Do you put both the second rounders on the team if they look promising? Are my concerns with Delonte unfounded?
|
It's time to reset this.
We now have, if I'm not mistaken:
Kaman - Wright
Dirk - Brand
Marion - Carter
Mayo - Jones - Jones - Cunningham
Collison - Beaubois
That's 12 guaranteed, if Cunningham is a guarantee. And the beast that is Crowder can't be kept off this roster. That makes 13. We get to go 15, right? So, if we keep Sergeant James then we are at 14, with one bullet (the room exception) left to fire. Right? If so, do we just sign Delonte and call it a summer?

Early reports from Summer League have James being far from ready. Maybe they leave him off the roster and let him play a year in the DLeague.
I've wondered before if you can really sink a year with a 27 y/o, but I'm really starting to the think that the Mavs need another true center. It won't be someone in the regular rotation, but with Brand and Wright rounding out the center core right now, I feel like someone with some serious height and bulk might be necessary for emergencies.

I doubt they drafted him with the idea that he would be a rotation player right away. His age doesn't really bother me, for what they invested in him. If he takes three years to develop, you probably still have five good years left in him, and maybe more. In other words, I agree with you that he likely won't have a spot on the 15-man.
As for someone to take his place...not the kind of player you are talking about, but how about Cardinal?

I don't think Bernard is ready. There's just something that isn't right. It's probably that the game is still relatively new to him. I pegged him as a D-Leaguer right from the jump.

Yeah, but a DLeaguer on the roster or off?
I wonder if Pryzbilla wants to come here and play sparingly.

Is he free? If so, nothing at all wrong with JP as a 3rd string Center...

That's the question.
The vanilla gorilla has been linked to Dallas for a season or two. He'd come on the cheap. He's always good to goon up a situation.

It's awesome how we are currently discussing the Mavs' potential 4th center. It's been a good two weeks, eh?

We got younger and we got better in the post. On paper this looks good. Chemistry-wise? No idea how this will work out. This is a whole new team. Lots of potential for conflicts over playing time, shot distribution, etc. Hope they just play and follow Dirk's quiet lead. Delonte would be great for locker-room spirit. Oh, and could we add a sharp-shooter like Novak, please?

Lol this team might be even better than 2011.
I'd love to hear what Barkley thinks about our current roster. Young athletic, explosive backcourt and a big, experienced front court. Barkley should love it.
Can't wait to beat NJ, BOS and NY...

Its possible to get Calderon, right? And you still can sign West, right? Would love that to happen.
Then we would have:
Collison/Calderon/Do.Jones/Roddy
Mayo/West/Cunningham
Marion/Carter/Da.Jones
Dirk/Brand/Crowder
Kaman/Wright/James
Thats one player too much, so Roddy or DoJo have to go and maybe you can release James and add someone like Pryziblla.
So, in my perfect world:
Collison/Calderon/Roddy or DoJo
Mayo/West/Cunningham
Marion/Carter/Da.Jones
Dirk/Brand/Crowder
Kaman/Wright/a Center
I would keep Roddy, he has shown that he can score in this league

Donnie on with Ben and Skin…
Donnie said they were do all they can to be a “contender” this season. I thought this was very interesting and in stark contrast to the “maybe we’ll be young and athletic” comments he made after losing DWill.
Donnie (of course) again mentioned that they are planning on being “players” in next off season as well.
Donnie said Mayo is “penciled in” as the starting shooting guard.
Donnie said he is a team guy. Who didn’t complain about taking on a bench role. He said they got great reports from the Memphis FO about Mayo’s attitude.
“We’re different & we’re versatile”
DWest is still in the plans “We’re still filling out the roster”

JJT is such a hack.

And not only is he a hack, I have it on good authority that he's just an incredibly weird, antisocial dude.

JJT is one of the worst sports writers I have come across. His supposed strength is the Dallas Cowboys, yet he still sucks at covering them, as well.

I think they close out the offseason moves by signing Delonte with the exception.
My prediction, if healthy, this team contends for the 4th seed. No less than a 6th.
